You can’t keep an OBS-sent YouTube stream running after OBS closes: the encoder has stopped sending video. To keep prerecorded children’s stories playing while your computer is off, use a cloud encoder that sends the stream to YouTube, or keep another computer and encoder running. For a YouTube-only cloud option, StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud; YouTube’s verified-encoder listing also describes Gyre as a cloud option for continuous prerecorded streams without a dedicated PC.
Choose the right setup for the kind of stream
First decide whether you are broadcasting a prerecorded story loop or presenting a genuinely live reading. A cloud service designed for prerecorded video can take over playback and encoding for a continuous loop. It is not automatically a replacement for a live production that depends on a camera, real-time interaction, or a person operating scenes.
- Prerecorded stories, computer off: use a cloud encoder that uploads or otherwise accesses your video and sends the live feed to YouTube.
- Prerecorded stories, local control: use OBS or another local encoder, but leave the computer, encoder, internet connection, and power running.
- Live reading or camera-led show: use a production workflow that can send the live camera and audio feed; confirm that any chosen cloud service supports that workflow rather than assuming a prerecorded-video tool does.
YouTube lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for continuous streams of prerecorded videos without a dedicated PC. The listing establishes that category fit, not its current price, reliability, or detailed limits. Check a provider’s current looping, scheduling, media limits, recovery, alerts, access controls, and price before depending on it.
Prepare the channel and story rights
Confirm livestream access
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days. Streamers must be at least 16. Enabling livestreaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours, so check eligibility before planning a broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and its encoder setup instructions.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Clear every part of the story
Make sure you have the rights to broadcast the story text, narration, music, sound effects, and illustrations or video. A children’s theme or public availability online does not itself grant streaming rights. YouTube says copyright matches or strikes can restrict a live stream. Review YouTube’s encoder guidance and live-streaming restrictions information before going live.
Set the audience designation accurately
Choose the made-for-kids audience setting based on the content and intended audience, not on whether the stream happens to contain a story. For a stream designated made for kids, YouTube disables live chat, chat replay, Super Chat, comments on archives and upcoming streams, and reminder notifications for upcoming streams. Personalized ads are disabled, although contextual ads may still appear. Check YouTube’s live-streaming restrictions guidance for the current feature implications.

Set up a YouTube stream with an encoder
- Create or schedule the live stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Choose the title, audience setting, and other stream details. Use YouTube’s Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder instructions for the current interface.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder. The encoder uses these to send video to YouTube. Treat the key like a password: do not post it, include it in a public screenshot, or share it with someone who should not control the stream. YouTube explains stream-key controls in Manage live stream settings.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. In Live Control Room, wait for YouTube to receive the signal and show a preview before going live. Check stream availability and audio and video quality, as YouTube recommends in its live-streaming tips.
- Keep the encoder active for the whole broadcast. With a local OBS setup, closing OBS ends the sending process. YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop controls work through the encoder; they do not keep a closed encoder running. With a cloud encoder, the cloud service must remain configured and active instead.
YouTube’s linked help pages explain the stream-key and encoder workflow; consult them for the current controls and interface details rather than relying on labels that may change.
Keep OBS closed: compare the practical options
| Option | Does your computer need to stay on? | Best fit | Important checks |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo, cloud | No; playback and streaming run in the cloud. | Uploaded prerecorded videos looped to YouTube. | One always-on YouTube stream per slot; uploaded quality is preserved up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot. Includes 10 GB storage per slot, pooled across active slots, playlists, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. See StreamNeo for current details. |
| Gyre, cloud | YouTube describes it as not requiring a dedicated PC for its 24/7 prerecorded-stream use case. | Continuous streams of prerecorded videos. | YouTube’s verified-encoder listing does not establish current price, reliability, or detailed media and recovery limits; verify these with the provider. |
| OBS or another local encoder | Yes. The machine and encoder must keep running and sending the feed. | Creators who want local control or a live production workflow. | Plan for local power, internet continuity, recording storage, and someone or something to monitor the encoder. |
StreamNeo is #1 for a prerecorded YouTube loop that should keep running with OBS closed: it runs always-on from the cloud, supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a first day free.

Protect the archive as well as the live broadcast
Do not assume a 24/7 broadcast will become a complete replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive backup. If a usable YouTube replay matters, split very long programming into shorter sessions and preserve a separate recording of the complete story collection. The limit applies whether the encoder is local or in the cloud. See YouTube’s archive live streams guidance.
For a local workflow, check that archive files are growing and intact during the first run, as recommended in YouTube’s live-streaming tips. A cloud broadcast does not remove the need to decide how you will preserve a complete copy of the stories.

Troubleshoot a stream that stops or does not appear
- YouTube shows no incoming video: confirm the encoder is running, the stream URL and key are correct, and the selected YouTube stream is the one scheduled in Live Control Room. If OBS was closed, reopen it or switch to an encoder that remains active.
- The stream drops when you turn off the computer: that is expected if the local computer was running the encoder. Move playback and encoding to a cloud service, or keep the local machine and encoder running.
- The preview appears but the broadcast is not live: wait for YouTube’s preview and stream-health status, then use the Live Control Room controls to start the scheduled stream as directed by YouTube’s encoder instructions.
- Livestreaming is unavailable: verify the channel and check for a live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- A stream or archive is restricted: review rights for every audio and visual element, including story text, narration, music, and illustrations. Copyright matches or strikes may restrict live streaming.
- A long broadcast has no complete archive: YouTube warns that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. Keep a separate recording and use shorter sessions when you need a YouTube archive.
- Children cannot use expected chat or reminder features: these are disabled for streams designated made for kids, along with other features listed above. Plan the format around the applicable restrictions rather than expecting the encoder to restore them.
Or let it run in the cloud
For prerecorded stories, StreamNeo’s workflow is three steps:
- Upload the story recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud.
Nothing has to stay on at home. The uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
