You can’t turn an unlisted YouTube playlist into a 24/7 live broadcast just by sharing its link. A playlist organizes videos; a live stream is a separate broadcast that needs an encoder to send video to YouTube. To run a continuous channel, use an authorized feed of the videos and a local or hosted encoder. Can you stream an unlisted YouTube playlist 24/7?
No—not by entering or sharing the playlist URL alone. YouTube’s Live Streaming API describes a broadcast as an event streamed using live video. A playlist groups videos; it is not itself a live encoder or broadcast. You need a separate system to play the authorized videos in sequence and send that feed to a YouTube live broadcast.
That distinction matters if you want viewers to see a continuous live channel rather than watch videos on demand. The playlist can help organize your source videos, but it does not, on the official YouTube guidance reviewed for this article, create an endless live stream or promise continuous uptime.

Confirm rights for both live use and replays
Make sure you have permission to transmit every animation, soundtrack, and other element continuously as a live stream. Check rights for replay or video-on-demand use too. YouTube’s production guidance tells creators to confirm rights for both live transmission and VOD; copyright matches and policy actions can also restrict live access. A video being available online, or already appearing in a playlist, does not establish that you have those rights.

Set the audience accurately
Decide whether the channel and its individual live content are directed to children, then set the audience designation accurately in YouTube Studio. Do not decide based on animation alone. YouTube says it may override an audience designation if it considers the setting mistaken or abusive.
For content designated made for kids, YouTube disables features including live chat, comments, notifications, saving to playlists, and personalized ads. Contextual ads may still be shown, but do not promise personalized advertising or those unavailable features to viewers. The correct audience setting is a policy requirement, not a growth tactic.

Think carefully about link-only access
Unlisted is not password protection. Someone with the direct URL can share it onward, so an unlisted broadcast is not an access-controlled viewing environment for children. YouTube’s production guide recommends private or unlisted for a stream that is not yet live and warns that an unlisted item can become public through sharing its URL. Choose visibility according to who should be able to watch, not as a substitute for safeguarding or parental controls.
Check channel eligibility and any child-directed integrations
Confirm the account is enabled for live streaming and is not currently restricted. YouTube’s production guide says initial live activation may take 24 hours; the Live Streaming API also reports errors if live permissions are missing. If you build a child-directed API client or child-directed website or app, YouTube’s API policies add requirements, including notifying Google through its tools. A child-directed site embedding YouTube content has a separate self-designation requirement; verify YouTube’s current guidance before implementing an embedded player.

How to create a 24/7 live stream with a local encoder
This is the do-it-yourself route: a computer runs encoder software, plays the authorized video feed, and sends it to YouTube. YouTube’s published workflow requires an encoder and a stream key. The official guidance cited here does not specify a minimum PC, bitrate, bandwidth, resolution, encoder preset, or failover setup for this use case, so there is no evidence-based universal value to copy into those fields. Use encoder and YouTube recommendations applicable to your actual source and connection, then verify the stream preview before relying on it.
- Prepare the video feed. Gather videos and audio you are authorized to use for continuous live transmission and any replay. Configure the playback source or encoder workflow to present them in the intended order and repeat them if you need a loop. A YouTube playlist URL by itself is not the feed.
- Open YouTube Live Control Room. Create a live broadcast and enter its title and description. Choose the privacy setting that matches your distribution plan; if you choose unlisted, anyone who receives the link may share it. Set the audience designation accurately and review applicable broadcast settings, including embed availability.
- Configure the encoder. In the encoder, select the prepared video feed and configure the output for YouTube. Copy the stream key from the broadcast setup into the encoder’s stream-key field. Treat the key as a credential: do not post or share it publicly, and use YouTube’s controls to replace it if it is exposed.
- Start sending the feed. Start the encoder and check that YouTube receives the stream and displays the expected preview. Correct any source, key, or connection problem before starting the public broadcast.
- Start the broadcast and monitor it. Go live in YouTube after the feed is arriving. Someone or something must keep the local playback and encoder operating; YouTube’s setup guide does not promise uninterrupted uptime, automatic restart, or failover for your particular system.
- Plan recording separately. Google/YouTube’s production PDF says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived and that longer streams should be recorded by the team for manual upload. That guidance is from a production PDF with dated, campaign-specific context; check current Studio behavior before building an archive plan around it. The PDF does not document automatic playlist looping or automatic restart.
Choose how the stream will keep running
The key operational question is who runs the encoder continuously and handles recovery. A local setup uses equipment you operate; a hosted setup moves the encoder and playout into the cloud. Neither the reviewed YouTube guidance nor the API documentation endorses a particular provider or establishes a service-level uptime guarantee.
