You can run a Tamil radio-style YouTube stream around the clock by sending a continuous audio-and-visual feed from an encoder to YouTube Live Control Room. Before building a playlist, clear the rights for the recordings and compositions in your intended territories. Then test the feed, keep a local recording, and plan how you will handle disconnections and YouTube’s archive limit.
What you need for a 24/7 Tamil YouTube radio stream
The practical setup has four parts: a verified YouTube channel eligible to stream live, music you are permitted to broadcast, an encoder that sends the feed to YouTube, and a reliable internet connection. For a music-only station, the encoder can send audio with a static visual; add a microphone only if you plan to host live segments or record promos.
- Channel: YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions from the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so do this before your planned launch.
- Encoder: Create or schedule a stream in YouTube Live Control Room, then give the encoder the stream URL and stream key.
- Rights: Confirm that your planned use of each recording and composition is covered in the relevant territories, including continuous live use and any archived playback you intend to make available.
- Continuity and archive: Keep a local recording and decide how you will restore the stream after an interruption. YouTube does not guarantee uninterrupted 24/7 playback.
For spoken links or promos, an external microphone can be useful; it is not needed for a music-only feed. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance describes production with external audio hardware such as microphones and preamps.
Clear rights for the Tamil music before you go live
YouTube’s live-stream terms put responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights. Which permissions apply depends on the recordings and compositions you use, how you use them, and the countries where the stream is available. Do not assume that owning a copy of a song, having permission to play it at an event, or finding it online gives you the rights needed for a continuous YouTube broadcast.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If its systems detect copyrighted material, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. A license by itself may not prevent that: YouTube says a rights owner may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID. Confirm this with the relevant rights holders before launch, especially if you have obtained permission directly.
Make a rights checklist for your playlist
- Identify both the sound recordings and the underlying compositions in your planned repertoire.
- Confirm that the permissions cover continuous live streaming on YouTube and the territories where your station will be available.
- Check whether the permission covers YouTube’s archived playback as well as the live feed.
- Ask rights holders whether your channel must be allowlisted to avoid automated interruptions.
- Keep records of permissions and any territory, repertoire, or duration limits.
Do not select a music licensing service until you have checked that its catalog includes the Tamil material you want and that its current terms cover your station’s live, archive, and territory needs. Requirements vary, so seek advice specific to your repertoire and jurisdiction if you are unsure.

Set up the encoder and test the feed
- Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and enable live streaming if the channel has not used it before. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- Create or schedule a live stream. In Live Control Room, create the stream or schedule a broadcast. Use the encoder workflow rather than treating a normal video upload as a live radio feed.
- Copy the connection details. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the stream, then enter them in your encoder. Keep the key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast.
- Configure the feed. YouTube lists H.264 video and AAC or MP3 audio options for RTMP/RTMPS encoder delivery. Choose settings that your encoder and upload connection can sustain consistently.
- Use a representative test. Send the kind of Tamil audio and visual you intend to broadcast. Wait for the preview in Live Control Room, confirm that audio is present and stable, and check stream health before starting the public broadcast.
- Monitor the station. Watch the encoder and YouTube stream-health indicators during testing and operation. If you are recording locally, confirm that the recording file is growing.
Resolution and bitrate
For a concrete reference, YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends 3 Mbps H.264 video bitrate for 720p at 30 frames per second. That is a recommendation for that video configuration, not a universal requirement for radio. A static visual and a lower-resolution feed may suit a music station, but the audio and video still need testing together in your actual encoder and network conditions. YouTube advises selecting a bitrate your connection can sustain.
YouTube recommends upload bandwidth headroom of 20% above the stream’s bitrate. Measure your upload capacity under the conditions in which the station will run, including ordinary household or workplace network use, rather than relying only on the provider’s advertised maximum. If the connection is shared or variable, consider backup connectivity and test the switch before relying on it.

Plan for interruptions and recordings
A 24/7 channel needs more than a playlist: it needs a recovery plan. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend testing the encoder, previewing before the broadcast, monitoring stream health and quality, and checking that local archive files are growing. Network disruptions can break a live stream, so a restart plan is useful but cannot promise seamless playback.
Do not rely on YouTube’s archive for a continuous station
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A single around-the-clock broadcast therefore should not be treated as a guaranteed YouTube archive. Record locally and decide how you will preserve programs, rotate files, and publish any recordings you need to keep. If your workflow uses shorter sessions to fit YouTube’s documented archive behavior, plan the transitions carefully; a restart can still create a break in playback.

Operational checks
- Before launch, test the full audio chain, visual, encoder, and local recording with representative content.
- Check that the local recording is actually growing and that the destination has enough available storage for the intended session.
- Monitor the YouTube preview and stream-health indicators rather than assuming the encoder’s “live” status means viewers are receiving a healthy feed.
- Decide who can respond to an encoder failure, internet outage, rights claim, or stream-key problem, and document how to restart safely.

Common problems and what to check
Live streaming is not available on the channel
Check that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restriction from the preceding 90 days. If this is its first live stream, enable live streaming early and allow up to 24 hours for activation.
The encoder connects but the preview has no audio
Check the encoder’s selected audio source, output routing, and audio format. Send a representative test and confirm sound in the Live Control Room preview before going live.
The stream is unstable or keeps disconnecting
Check upload capacity while the network is in normal use, reduce the encoder bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it, and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% bandwidth headroom. Inspect the encoder and network for interruptions, then test any backup connection rather than assuming it will take over correctly.
The stream is interrupted for copyrighted content
Review the notice and identify the detected material. Confirm the permissions for the recording, composition, use, and territory, and ask the rights owner whether your channel needs Content ID allowlisting. A license does not necessarily prevent automated detection from interrupting a live feed.

The broadcast ended but no archive appeared
Check the session length: YouTube says streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Use the local recording as the dependable copy and verify its file growth during the broadcast.
