Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTo stream a prerecorded video live on YouTube with a cloud encoder, enable live streaming on your channel, upload or select your video in a cloud service, connect the service to YouTube, and start or schedule the broadcast. The cloud service sends the video, so a computer at home does not have to stay on. For a scheduled stream that uses a stream key, start the encoder and wait for its preview in YouTube Live Control Room before clicking Go live.
Before you start
- Enable YouTube live streaming. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so do this before the day you plan to broadcast.
- Choose a cloud encoder. Check its current supported file formats, resolution and frame rate, storage allowance, simultaneous-stream limits, scheduling options, connection method, recovery behavior, and price. Features differ by service.
- Prepare the video and playlist. For example, Gyre documents a workflow that uploads video files to its storage and lets users arrange them in a playlist. That is a Gyre-specific description, not a feature guaranteed by every cloud encoder.
- Review rights and YouTube policies. Make sure you have the rights needed to stream the video and its audio. A prerecorded broadcast is still subject to YouTube’s rules; using an encoder does not establish monetization eligibility or guarantee audience growth.
Set up and start a cloud stream
- Enable live streaming on YouTube. Sign in to YouTube Studio and complete live-stream activation if it is not already enabled. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation, as YouTube advises.
- Upload or select your video in the cloud service. Follow that service’s instructions for adding files and, if available, arranging them into a playlist. Confirm the selected files and playback order before going live.
- Connect the service to your YouTube channel. Depending on the service, authorize your YouTube account or enter the YouTube stream URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses the URL and key. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a stream to your channel. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Create or schedule the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go Live. Create a stream, or open the Manage tab and choose Schedule Stream. Scheduling can provide a shareable watch URL and let viewers set reminders.
- Start the cloud encoder. Select the relevant video or playlist and start the stream in the service. If the broadcast is scheduled and uses an encoder, wait for the incoming preview in YouTube Live Control Room, then click Go live. Do not assume the broadcast is public merely because the cloud service has begun sending data.
- Check the preview and stream health. Confirm the expected video and audio appear in YouTube Live Control Room. Where available, monitor the service’s status and YouTube’s stream-health information during the broadcast.
- End the broadcast cleanly. Stop the stream in the cloud service and use YouTube’s End Stream control as appropriate. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived; this does not mean a stream lasting 12 hours or longer will be archived.
Stream URL, key, and RTMPS
For a standard encoder connection, YouTube provides a live server URL and a stream key in the stream setup. Some cloud services instead connect through YouTube account authorization. Use the connection method shown in the chosen service rather than entering credentials into an unrelated tool.
Google documents RTMPS, which carries RTMP over an SSL connection. Its requirements include a valid YouTube ingestion endpoint, the RTMPS scheme, and port 443. Use the endpoint supplied for the actual YouTube stream or by the encoder integration; do not copy an example endpoint from a different setup. Google’s API documentation also describes stream resources and ingestion information for API-managed workflows.
Choosing between cloud, desktop, and hardware
| Option | What it does | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud encoder | Hosts the sending process remotely; some services also offer file storage, playlists, looping, or scheduling. YouTube’s encoder directory lists Gyre as a cloud tool for 24/7 prerecorded YouTube streams. | Confirm the service’s current storage, supported formats and quality, number of simultaneous streams, scheduling, channel-connection method, recovery behavior, and price. Gyre describes upload, playlist, scheduling, and continuous-loop functions in its own documentation; these are vendor-described features, not independent test results. |
| Desktop encoder software | Sends a video to YouTube using an encoder workflow. YouTube’s general instructions support encoder software. | A local computer and network connection need to remain available for the whole broadcast. The generic stream-key workflow does not itself provide a YouTube-hosted cloud playlist scheduler. |
| Standalone hardware | YouTube lists the AJA HELO Plus as a hardware encoder and notes optional PlayToStream functionality for scheduling prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live. | This is a physical encoder, not a cloud service, and it is not required for the cloud workflow. |
For a channel that needs a long-running prerecorded stream, compare services on operational details rather than claims about growth, stability, or monetization outcomes. Availability and feature sets can change, so verify them with the provider before committing.

Troubleshooting
YouTube does not show the incoming preview
- Check that live streaming is enabled; first-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
- Verify that the cloud service is sending to the correct YouTube stream URL and that the stream key matches the scheduled stream.
- Check the cloud service’s status for upload, connection, or encoding errors. If you changed or reset the key, update it in the service.
The preview appears, but the scheduled broadcast is not live
For an encoder-based scheduled stream, YouTube’s workflow requires the operator to wait for the preview and then click Go live in Live Control Room. Confirm that the correct scheduled event is selected.
The wrong video or playlist plays
Check the selected file and playlist order in the cloud service, then confirm the same content appears in YouTube’s preview before going live.

The stream stops or YouTube reports a health problem
Check the cloud provider’s stream status and YouTube’s stream-health information to distinguish a sending issue from an ingestion issue. Confirm that the configured endpoint and protocol match the service’s instructions. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and replace it in the cloud encoder.
The archive is missing
YouTube’s cited guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not rely on automatic archiving for streams of 12 hours or longer; check YouTube’s current archive guidance for your broadcast.
