Liquidsoap can send an Indian radio station’s audio feed to YouTube Live, but YouTube needs an audio-and-video stream. Build or connect the radio source, mux it with a station image or other cleared video, encode the result with a compatible Liquidsoap/FFmpeg configuration, and send it to the ingest URL and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room.
What you need before configuring Liquidsoap
- A working Liquidsoap installation and a radio audio source, such as a playlist or an existing feed.
- An installed Liquidsoap/FFmpeg build with an encoder configuration that YouTube accepts. Available codecs depend on the build; check its capabilities rather than assuming a codec is present.
- A visual source, such as a still station image, that you have permission to use. Audio alone is not a complete audio/video stream.
- A YouTube channel with access to create a live stream, plus its current ingest URL and secret stream key from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
- Rights that cover the separate YouTube transmission of the recordings and underlying music, lyrics, and performances.
Liquidsoap documents YouTube-specific RTMP and HLS output operators. The versioned RTMP reference gives YouTube’s RTMP URL as its default endpoint, but use the actual ingest URL provided in Live Control Room and verify the operator syntax against your installed version: Liquidsoap 2.2.5 reference.
Set up the audio-and-video source
- Connect the radio audio. In Liquidsoap, define the playlist, live input, or other source that carries the station feed. Confirm it plays correctly before adding video.
- Choose a visual. A still image is the simplest option for a radio simulcast. Check that the station has the rights to use the image for this online stream. A still image is a technical option, not permission to use any particular artwork.
- Mux video with radio audio. Liquidsoap’s book demonstrates combining a still image and radio source using
source.mux.video. Its illustrative configuration has this shape:
radio = playlist("~/Music")
video = single("image.jpg")
radio = source.mux.video(video=video, radio)
ykey = string.trim(file.contents("youtube-key"))
url = "rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2/#{ykey}"
enc = %ffmpeg(format="flv",
%video(codec="libx264", pixel_format="yuv420p", b="300k"),
%audio(codec="libmp3lame", samplerate=44100, b="160k"))
output.url(fallible=true, url=url, enc, radio)
This is an example from the Liquidsoap 1.4.0 book, not a drop-in configuration for every current installation. It uses H.264 video and MP3 audio, and the book cautions that settings may need fine-tuning. Confirm the syntax, codecs, container, and settings supported by your installed Liquidsoap and FFmpeg build, then check YouTube’s current stream setup in Live Control Room.
Choose an ingest transport and configure output
Liquidsoap documents an RTMP output, while YouTube also supports RTMPS: RTMP carried over TLS/SSL. YouTube’s ingestion guide specifies a valid RTMPS endpoint on port 443 and describes RTMPS as the secure choice for ordinary user content: YouTube RTMPS ingestion.

#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Use the ingest URL provided for your stream, not an assumed endpoint copied from an old example.
- Check whether your Liquidsoap version and configuration support the transport YouTube gives you. The Liquidsoap versioned reference’s RTMP default does not guarantee that every installation supports every RTMPS configuration.
- Use Liquidsoap’s YouTube-specific output operator where it suits your installed version, or configure an appropriate generic output. The reference also documents a YouTube HLS output; choose HLS only when you have selected and configured that ingest method.
- Validate the output format and encoder settings against the options available in your build and YouTube’s current Live Control Room setup. The illustrative bitrate and codec values above are not universal YouTube requirements.
Keep the stream key out of the script’s public surface
The example reads a key from a separate file at runtime. Keep the key in a restricted file or equivalent secret store; do not commit a live key to public source code, show it in screenshots, or print it to logs. If the key is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before using the stream again.
Start and monitor the YouTube stream
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or select the live stream. Copy the ingest URL and stream key shown for that stream.
- Put the key in the protected file or secret store your Liquidsoap configuration reads, and use the provided ingest URL with a transport supported by your setup.
- Start Liquidsoap and check its logs for source, encoder, and connection errors without exposing the key.
- Watch the stream preview and status in Live Control Room. Confirm both audio and video arrive, then verify the image, sound, and continuity before relying on the stream.
- If you change the encoder, visual source, or ingest settings, monitor the new output in Live Control Room rather than assuming the previous configuration still applies.
Clear rights for the YouTube simulcast
Having permission to broadcast a radio programme terrestrially does not by itself establish that the same material is cleared for a separate YouTube transmission. India’s Copyright Act addresses copyright in musical works and sound recordings and defines broadcast broadly to include communication to the public by wire or wireless means: Copyright Office copy of India’s Copyright Act. Chapter VIII of the Copyright Rules includes notice and royalty provisions associated with the statutory broadcast-licensing section, including separate notices for radio and television broadcasts: Copyright Rules, Chapter VIII.

Those provisions do not settle whether a particular station’s terrestrial-radio licence or statutory broadcast route covers its YouTube simulcast. Confirm rights for the recordings, compositions, lyrics, performers, territory, and online platform use with the relevant rightsholders or qualified Indian counsel. YouTube’s platform enforcement is separate from local-law clearance; YouTube warns that a stream can be terminated for copyright or Community Guidelines strikes. Check YouTube Studio for strike information if a stream stops: YouTube Help: live stream restrictions.
Troubleshoot common failures
- YouTube receives no video: Radio audio by itself is not a complete video stream. Confirm the visual source loads and that it is muxed with the radio source before encoding.
- Liquidsoap reports an unknown operator or option: The book example is from Liquidsoap 1.4.0, while the versioned reference is for 2.2.5. Check syntax and operator availability against the documentation for your installed version and the codecs available in its FFmpeg build.
- The encoder will not start: Verify that the requested codecs and format exist in the installed build. Replace example settings only with a configuration supported by that build and accepted by YouTube’s current stream setup.
- The connection fails: Recheck the ingest URL and stream key in Live Control Room, and confirm that the chosen RTMP or RTMPS transport is supported by your Liquidsoap setup. Do not assume an old example endpoint is the one YouTube currently supplied.
- The stream stops after going live: Check Liquidsoap’s source and connection logs, then check YouTube Studio for stream status and any copyright or Community Guidelines strike notice. Do not put the stream key in diagnostic material shared publicly.
- The stream is blocked or terminated: Check YouTube Studio for strike information and review both platform rules and the rights covering the specific material. Technical acceptance by YouTube does not prove that the broadcast is legally cleared.
