AzuraCast provides the station audio; a separate encoder must combine it with a visual and send it to YouTube Live. In the usual digital-feed setup, copy the AzuraCast mount-point URL into an encoder that accepts it, add a static image or video scene, then send the result to YouTube using the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. AzuraCast’s documented audio and mount-point features do not establish a built-in video output to YouTube.
What you need—and how the parts fit together
This is an audio-to-video relay, not a direct AzuraCast-to-YouTube video connection. AzuraCast uses Liquidsoap to assemble and transform station audio. Its listener-facing mount points expose that audio in selected formats and bitrates. A separate encoder takes the audio feed, pairs it with a visual scene, and publishes the resulting video stream to YouTube Live.
- An AzuraCast station and the listener URL for the mount point you want to relay.
- An encoder that can ingest that URL or another supported audio input, add a visual, and publish to YouTube over RTMP or RTMPS. Check the encoder’s current documentation and test the exact combination; compatibility with every mount-point format is not established.
- A YouTube channel with access to Live Control Room, plus its stream URL and stream key.
- Rights to transmit the station audio on YouTube and, if you retain the stream, to make the resulting archive available.
If you mean an over-the-air FM signal rather than an existing digital AzuraCast feed, the receiver’s audio must first be captured as an input the encoder can use. That is a different source path; the digital mount-point method below does not receive FM radio waves.
Set up the AzuraCast audio source
Find the intended mount point
In your AzuraCast station, identify the mount point that carries the desired broadcast. Stations can have more than one mount point, for example, to offer different formats or bitrates. Use the listener URL for the format your chosen encoder can ingest, and confirm the URL is reachable from the machine running that encoder.

The documented default URL pattern is {HTTP/HTTPS}://{BASE_URL}.TLD/listen/{STATION_URL_STUB}/{MOUNT_POINT_URL}. A custom mount URL can override that pattern, so use the actual listener URL shown for your station rather than assuming the default applies.
Choose the visual scene
For an audio-focused stream, the visual can be station artwork or another image you have permission to use. If you want viewers to see the studio, use a live studio view instead. The encoder needs to combine that visual with the AzuraCast audio; the station mount point itself is an audio source.

Connect an encoder to YouTube Live
- Check the encoder’s inputs and outputs. Verify in its current documentation that it can receive your mount-point URL or a suitable captured audio input, create a video scene, and publish to YouTube using RTMP(S). Do not assume every encoder accepts every AzuraCast stream format.
- Create or select a YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or select the one you intend to use.
- Copy the handoff details. Copy the Stream URL and Stream key from YouTube Live Control Room into the encoder’s server and key fields. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it, and reset it if it is exposed.
- Configure and test the output. Use YouTube’s current encoder guidance for your chosen codec, resolution, and frame rate. Its documented guidance supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate (CBR); and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. For stereo audio, YouTube recommends 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. Video bitrate recommendations vary with codec, resolution, and frame rate, so select the matching row in YouTube’s live encoder table and ensure the uplink can sustain it.
- Wait for the preview before going live. Start sending from the encoder and check the preview and stream health in Live Control Room. For a scheduled stream, click Go live there after the preview appears. When finished, end the stream in YouTube Studio and stop the encoder.
YouTube recommends RTMPS where available. Its encoder guidance and current bitrate table are at YouTube Help: Live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Clear rights before relaying an Indian FM station
Receiving or broadcasting a station feed does not by itself establish permission to retransmit it worldwide on YouTube or leave an archive online. YouTube’s Live Terms state that providers represent and warrant they have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation of live content, including music licensing rights. YouTube also scans live streams for third-party material and may interrupt or terminate a stream; even licensed content may be interrupted unless the rights holder has allowlisted the channel in Content ID.

Before transmitting, confirm the specific station’s permissions and applicable India-specific requirements with the broadcaster and relevant rights holders. Check that the permissions cover the compositions and recordings in the feed, YouTube live use, the territories involved, and any retained archive. The requirements depend on the station, content, rights holders, territories, and existing licenses; the available official sources do not establish a single rule for every Indian FM retransmission.

Plan for source and server constraints
If you add AzuraCast destinations or mount points that require additional audio transcodes, Liquidsoap can use more CPU. Check the AzuraCast server’s capacity when adding outputs, especially if the station is already close to its resource limits. The separate encoder also needs a stable connection capable of sustaining the selected video bitrate.

- The encoder cannot connect to the mount point: Confirm the exact listener URL, including any custom mount path; check that the encoder host can reach it and that the format is supported by the encoder.
- YouTube does not receive a signal: Recheck the server URL and stream key copied from Live Control Room, and confirm that the encoder is publishing to the correct YouTube stream.
- The stream preview is missing or unhealthy: Verify that the encoder is sending video as well as audio, then check the codec, CBR setting, keyframe interval, and bitrate against YouTube’s guidance for the selected output mode. Make sure the uplink can sustain that bitrate.
- Audio drops or the AzuraCast server is overloaded: Check station and Liquidsoap resource use, particularly after adding mount points, transcodes, or destinations; review whether the encoder is consuming the intended mount.
- The live stream is interrupted for copyright: Review YouTube’s notice and resolve the rights issue with the relevant rights holder. A license alone may not prevent interruption if the channel has not been allowlisted in Content ID.
