To keep a Kannada radio channel live around the clock on YouTube, send its audio feed through an encoder such as OBS and pair it with a station visual, such as a logo or schedule. First confirm that the channel can livestream and that you have the necessary rights for every recording and broadcast. Then test the stream, plan for interruptions, and keep a local recording if you need a complete archive: YouTube says broadcasts longer than 12 hours may not be captured.
Before you start: check channel access and music rights
Confirm YouTube Live access
YouTube Help says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Check the channel’s current status in Live Control Room before planning a launch. YouTube’s current help guidance also lists limits of 10 active streams per channel and three per stream key; these platform limits can change, so verify them before scheduling multiple broadcasts. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
Clear the whole radio feed
Make an inventory of everything the stream may carry: songs, jingles, adverts, presenter segments, and any rebroadcast material. A Kannada-language or Kannada-music format does not have a separate YouTube streaming rule; the rights needed depend on the actual content, rights holders, territories, and contracts. Secure permissions for the planned use and territories, and seek local legal advice where the licensing position is unclear.
YouTube Help states: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A license alone may not prevent interruption: if a third-party rights holder uses Content ID, ask them to add the channel to its allowlist before broadcasting. YouTube may replace a stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it when it detects third-party content. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Choose where the encoder will run
| Setup | What it means | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Local computer | Run an encoder such as OBS on a studio or other computer that sends the radio audio and video to YouTube. | You can access and troubleshoot the machine directly, but its power and internet connection must remain available while it is streaming. |
| Remote server | Run an encoder on a hosted server, a practitioner-described option for unattended broadcasting. | It avoids relying on a computer at the station, but still depends on the server, its network, and restart arrangements. Do not assume automatic recovery or guaranteed uptime. |
| Dedicated hardware encoder | Use an encoder device instead of software on a general-purpose computer. | YouTube supports encoder workflows, but the available guidance does not establish that hardware is necessary or more reliable for this use. |
YouTube describes encoder streaming as useful for broadcasts involving overlays or audio/video hardware. OBS is free and open source, with no watermark or usage limitations, and can be used commercially; a paid encoder is not required just to get started. YouTube recommends testing failover and monitoring the broadcast, but does not promise a particular uptime for a local or hosted setup. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips and the OBS Help Portal.
Set up the broadcast and audio-visual feed
- Prepare the visual. Pair the radio audio with a station logo, schedule, or other visual you have permission to use. A static image or looping visual is a practitioner-described presentation option, not a stated YouTube requirement. Keep the visual suitable for the entire program.
- Create the broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room. Set up a live stream and use its stream key in your encoder. Treat the key as a credential: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to the channel.
- Configure your encoder for the actual feed. Select the radio audio source and the prepared visual, then connect the encoder to YouTube using the stream key. Choose settings appropriate to your source and available upload connection. The cited YouTube guidance does not establish a specific bitrate, resolution, keyframe interval, computer specification, or audio setting for a Kannada radio feed; do not treat a generic setting as guaranteed to work for your setup.
- Check the preview before going public. Start the encoder and wait for the incoming feed to appear in Live Control Room. Listen for clean, continuous audio and confirm the visual is present before starting the public broadcast.
Test, launch, and monitor continuously
- Run a test broadcast. Test with an unlisted stream before announcing the channel. Confirm that the stream is reachable from the channel and watch page, and check it on mobile as well as the device used for setup.
- Test recovery and archive behavior. YouTube’s tips recommend testing failover. Check what viewers see if the encoder or connection stops, and verify that any local recording is being written and growing as expected.
- Assign monitoring and response. Decide who receives alerts, who can restart the encoder, and what fallback visual or audio should appear during a problem. Monitor both audio and video while live; a stream that appears connected can still have silent or degraded audio.
- Launch publicly after the test passes. Confirm the correct broadcast is selected in Live Control Room, then start the public stream and keep monitoring it.
YouTube publishes encoder and monitoring advice in its live-streaming tips. It does not establish that an unattended VPS or a local computer will recover automatically, so test the particular restart and failover arrangements you rely on.

Plan for interruptions and replay limits
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not promise a complete YouTube replay of one uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast. If listeners need the full program afterward, maintain a local recording and check that it is being saved. For replay-friendly programming, consider scheduling separate sessions while accounting for the handoff and any interruption between them. Details are in YouTube’s archive guidance.
