The result tells you whether to inspect the media files and playlist, OBS monitoring, or the stream connection.
Find where the audio gap begins
Reproduce a transition while watching the OBS mixer’s input-level indicator. Record locally through the same transition, then listen to that file and compare it with the public YouTube stream. The three checks distinguish audio missing before OBS, a monitoring-only symptom, and a problem that appears later in the stream path. OBS documents what its input meters indicate, but this comparison is a diagnostic method—not a guarantee about the cause of a particular setup.
- The meter drops at the boundary: inspect the end of the first file, the start of the next, playlist order, and the audio track selected in the source. Check each file individually, especially if their tracks or formats differ.
- The meter stays active but headphones are silent: check the local recording or stream output before changing the media. Monitoring can behave differently from recorded or streamed audio.
- The local recording has sound but the public stream does not: check OBS’s connection and dropped-frame symptoms, then YouTube’s stream health. A connection issue is one possibility, not proof that every audio gap is caused by the network.

Check the OBS source and playlist
For a playlist of video files
OBS’s VLC Video source supports playlists. Open the source’s properties and check that the intended items and order are present, that Loop Playlist is enabled if the sequence should repeat, and that the selected Audio Track exists and contains sound in every item. Check clips one by one if only certain transitions are silent. Shuffle Playlist changes playback order; leave it off if the sequence must play in a fixed order.

OBS documents these controls in its Media Sources guide and Sources Guide. The documentation lists network caching as a setting, but does not establish that increasing it fixes gaps between local files, so do not treat a cache adjustment as a proven repair for this symptom.
For one file that should repeat
If you are replaying a single supported audio/video file, inspect the Media Source’s Loop setting. Its separate playback-end options affect what happens visually when playback finishes; for example, Show nothing when playback ends can hide the video, but that behavior alone does not explain a silent interval.

If the boundary remains audible
One practical workaround is to join the clips into a continuous media file with any desired transitions prepared in advance, then test that file through the same OBS setup. This is a production option, not a gapless-transition guarantee from OBS. Record locally through the join and listen before relying on it in a continuous broadcast.
Separate monitoring symptoms from older OBS reports
Two OBS reports from 2020 are useful as clues, not evidence of a current universal bug. Issue #3410 described unexpected behavior with a VLC playlist alternating video and audio files, on OBS 25.0.8 / 26.0.0-rc1; it was closed as not planned. Issue #3712 concerned audio cut shortly before a playlist clip ended while monitoring on OBS 26.0.2; its reporter said streaming and recording were unaffected. These particular reports support checking mixed media and monitoring separately, but do not establish that current OBS releases share the same issue.

Check the stream connection only when the evidence points there
If a local recording is continuous but viewers hear interruptions, inspect OBS’s connection status and dropped-frame indicators, then check YouTube’s stream health. OBS attributes dropped frames or intermittent disconnections to the connection with the ingest server or an inability to sustain the bitrate. Its Stream Connection Troubleshooting guide covers those symptoms. Connection troubleshooting is appropriate when the local file is clean; it does not prove the cause of a gap that also appears in the recording.
Use the symptom to choose your next check

These are diagnostic directions, not a ranking of products or a claim that one cause is more common. OBS does not publish a measured prevalence or a guaranteed gapless-transition figure for this symptom.
