Compare the upload link that actually sends the continuous stream to YouTube—not just the speed printed on a broadband plan. With a local encoder or loop, your internet connection must sustain YouTube’s recommended ingestion bitrate for your chosen resolution, frame rate and codec. With cloud playout, the provider’s server sends the ongoing broadcast; your connection is mainly used to upload the source video and manage the service.
Start with the stream’s actual upload requirement
A live encoder sends data upstream continuously. YouTube’s published H.264 recommendations for common resolutions are:
| Output | YouTube-recommended H.264 ingestion bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 or 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
These are encoder bitrate settings, not broadband plan requirements or guarantees that a connection will hold a stream reliably. YouTube publishes separate guidance for H.264, AV1 and H.265, so compare figures for the codec you actually use rather than mixing columns. Its live encoder settings guidance recommends testing upload bitrate and monitoring stream health: YouTube live encoder settings.
Identify where the continuous stream is sent from
| Workflow | Who sends the broadcast to YouTube? | What your connection must handle |
|---|---|---|
| Local encoder or loop | Your computer or other encoder, over your own internet connection. | The ongoing stream at the selected bitrate, plus any other household or office traffic. |
| Cloud loop service | The provider’s cloud worker. | Uploading source media and controlling the service. Your home connection does not carry the continuing broadcast once cloud playout is running. |
The distinction matters more than the advertised download speed. A cloud workflow shifts the continuous sending job to the provider, but introduces dependence on that service’s current limits, availability, configuration and terms.

How to assess a local connection in India
Check the provider’s upload disclosure
Do not infer upload capacity from a plan’s download headline. TRAI says it does not prescribe a universal minimum broadband upload or download speed; providers must indicate typical download and upload speeds in tariff offerings. See the TRAI Broadband FAQ. The 2024 TRAI regulation says customers can verify declared typical speeds through the TRAI MySpeed app with location access enabled: TRAI regulation PDF.
Test from the actual sending setup
- Use the location, device and connection that will run the loop. A result from another room, a different network or a phone on mobile data may not represent the encoder’s path.
- Run an upload speed test; YouTube specifically recommends testing upload bitrate. If the connection is shared, test under conditions resembling the time and household or office usage expected during the stream.
- Configure the encoder for the intended resolution, frame rate, codec and bitrate, then run a realistic YouTube test stream. YouTube recommends including audio and movement similar to the planned stream.
- Watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators during the test. A single speed-test result does not establish that upload performance will remain stable for a long loop.
For a local loop, the measured upload has to sustain the chosen stream while the computer, power and internet connection remain available. Leave room for competing traffic and variation rather than treating a brief peak as a 24/7 reliability promise.

How to compare cloud loop services
With cloud playout, your broadband upload speed is relevant chiefly to how long it takes to transfer the source media. Compare services on the sending location and the practical upload workflow, not by dividing your local speed into YouTube’s live bitrate and assuming that proves the cloud stream will work.
- Measure the time to upload the actual source files from the intended connection.
- Check the service’s current file, storage, playlist and stream configuration limits.
- Confirm which quality, codec and frame-rate settings the service supports and whether the uploaded file is played as-is or changed.
- Review availability, recovery behavior and terms directly with the provider; a service description alone does not establish measured reliability.
There is no established India-wide statistic for sustained upload performance among YouTube loop-service users. Suitability therefore has to be judged from your sending path, your source upload and a realistic test—not a national average.
