To run a 24/7 YouTube lofi stream, send YouTube Live a continuous program from an encoder: prepare original or properly licensed music and visuals, connect OBS Studio to a YouTube stream key, and keep the encoder computer online. For a day-and-night room, either render the lighting changes into one looping video or build separate scenes and arrange a tested way to switch between them. OBS supports looping media and playlists; its documented media-source controls do not provide a built-in clock-based scene scheduler.
Choose how the day-and-night scene will work
There are two distinct decisions: how to make the visual change from day to night, and how to keep the program playing continuously. A rendered file is straightforward to loop; separate OBS scenes offer more direct control but require a switching workflow you have independently verified. YouTube receives an encoded live feed either way, even though the program was recorded in advance.
- One rendered file: Animate the room’s window, sky, lighting and details through a full day-night cycle, then export a video with an intentional loop point. Add the soundtrack in the file or play it as a separate looping source.
- Separate scenes: Make day and night scenes in OBS and test the method that will switch them before launch. OBS’s media-source documentation describes looping and playlists, not an automatic time-of-day scene scheduler.
For continuity, test a complete cycle: look for abrupt visual jumps, silence or audio pops at the loop point, a frozen or blank frame, and audio-video synchronization drift. If the day-to-night transition is important to the program, check it at the intended times rather than assuming that a scene change or playlist will happen as planned.
Prepare music and artwork you can use
Use music and visual assets that you created, have permission to use, or are covered by applicable license terms. “Royalty-free” by itself does not establish that a track may be used in a livestream or monetized. YouTube lists permission, applicable copyright exceptions, Creative Commons terms, and Audio Library or Creator Music as possible routes for music, but none guarantees that a Content ID claim or copyright strike will not occur. See YouTube’s copyright guidance.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Keep a rights ledger for every track, sample, illustration, font, animation and background element. Record the license version, attribution requirements, territory, and whether livestreaming and monetization are covered. Copyright questions depend on the specific work, license and jurisdiction.
- Retain project files, permissions and license records so you can substantiate how you may use each asset.
- Give the channel a distinct identity through original music, meaningful visual details and variation between uploads; avoid relying on the same low-effort loop across the entire channel.
- Do not treat a short loop, a live badge or permission to use someone else’s material as proof that a channel will qualify for monetization.
Build a looping program in OBS Studio
OBS is among the encoders listed by YouTube. Its Media Sources guide documents local media playback, looping and playlist controls. The exact controls you use depend on whether you have one rendered video, separate audio, or a playlist.

Loop one rendered video
- Open OBS and select the scene that will carry the stream.
- In Sources, add a Media Source and select your rendered video file.
- Enable Loop in the Media Source properties. If the file contains both picture and sound, confirm that the source’s audio is reaching the OBS mixer.
- Start playback and watch through the file’s ending and restart. Check that the loop does not expose a black frame, a discontinuity in the animation or an audio gap.
Loop a playlist
- Add a VLC Video Source when you need to play a playlist of media files.
- Add the intended files in the correct order and enable playlist looping in the source’s properties.
- Play through the transitions between files and confirm that each item has the expected picture and sound before relying on the playlist for a continuous broadcast.
For day and night in a single file, render the lighting progression into that file and loop it. For separate OBS scenes, prepare and test the switching method as a separate part of production; the documented media-source looping controls alone do not schedule scene changes by clock time.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable live streaming well before a planned launch. YouTube’s current eligibility guidance says a livestreamer must be at least 16 and the channel must not have a live-stream restriction. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility help for current requirements.

- Open YouTube Studio and create or schedule a live stream in the Live Control Room.
- Copy the stream’s server URL and stream key from YouTube’s encoder setup.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and enter the connection details using the workflow YouTube presents. Keep the stream key private: it authorizes a connection to your broadcast.
- Start streaming from OBS. Check the incoming preview and status in Live Control Room; complete the live-start step there if YouTube prompts you.
- Confirm the intended visibility, title and stream before directing viewers to the watch page.
For YouTube’s current encoder workflow and archive limits, see Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder. YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours. Because a 24/7 broadcast exceeds that threshold, do not assume that YouTube will save a complete multi-day replay. If a replay matters, plan how and when to end and restart broadcasts, label successive watch pages, and preserve recordings locally where appropriate.
Decide where the stream will run
| Approach | What stays running | Best suited to | Main trade-off | Day/night handling |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Local OBS | Your encoder computer, media storage, power and upload connection | Custom scene control, interactive production and direct control | You maintain the computer and network continuity | Render the cycle into a file or use separate scenes with a switching method you have tested |
| Cloud-hosted prepared media | The provider’s cloud playout; you manage the program through its service | Prepared programs when you do not want your personal computer running | Service cost, provider dependency, storage and destination limits, and the provider’s recovery behavior | Confirm before relying on a service that it can represent or switch the sequence you need |
With local OBS, a power interruption, computer restart or home upload failure can interrupt the broadcast. A hosted service moves playback off your computer but adds a provider dependency; check storage, destination support, privacy and security controls, and what happens after a disconnect before choosing one. The Looping Stream vendor describes a hosted workflow based on uploading media, entering a YouTube RTMP destination and stream key, and running playback on cloud servers. Its own page also notes that outages, invalid keys or source problems can stop a stream; vendor reliability statements are not guarantees.

Test the full operating plan before announcing
A loop can look correct in a short preview but fail during a long run. Before making the stream public, check the full program path and decide who will respond if it stops.
- Watch at least one complete media cycle, including the day-to-night change and the loop or playlist restart.
- Listen for silence, clipping, level changes and audio-video drift; check that sources do not end on a blank or frozen frame.
- Verify the scene-switching method, playlist order, YouTube preview, stream key and visibility setting.
- Keep a fallback copy of media and a concise restart procedure. Decide who will monitor for disconnects or copyright notices.
- If streaming locally, account for the computer, storage, power and upload connection as parts of the continuity plan.
Understand monetization and originality rules
A successful live connection does not guarantee monetization. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to live streams and require original, authentic content for monetization. On July 15, 2025, YouTube updated its policy language, renaming “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and clarifying that repetitive or mass-produced content is ineligible under the existing rules. Its reused-content policy is separate from copyright permission: even with permission, a creator may need to demonstrate meaningful original value. Do not assume a lofi stream will be accepted into or remain in the YouTube Partner Program.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a track just because it is labeled royalty-free?
No. Check the license for livestreaming, monetization, attribution, territory and other conditions; the label alone does not establish those rights.
Will YouTube save my entire 24/7 stream as a replay?
YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A 24/7 stream exceeds that limit, so plan separate broadcasts or local recordings if you need replays.
