You can run a lofi-style YouTube livestream from an India-based laptop with OBS Studio, but a laptop setup is not guaranteed to stay live without interruption. First confirm your channel can livestream and that you have worldwide rights to every track and visual—including for archived playback. Then create a broadcast in YouTube Studio, connect OBS, test the stream, and plan how you will recover after a power, network, or software failure.
Before you start: check eligibility and clear your content
Confirm that your channel can livestream
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days to enable livestreaming. Use YouTube Studio’s Go live flow to check access and create or schedule an encoder-based broadcast. Treat the stream key as a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who does not need it. YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance explains the platform’s requirements.
Get permission for every track and visual
Use music and artwork you created or have explicit permission to use worldwide in a YouTube livestream. Check that the license also covers archived playback and your intended monetization, and retain the license or written permission. Labels such as “royalty-free” or “copyright-free” do not establish that these uses are allowed.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match may replace the stream with a placeholder and a warning; unresolved material can interrupt or terminate it. A licensed track can still trigger a disruption if its rights holder has not allowlisted your channel in Content ID. Ask the rights holder whether allowlisting is required before you go live. You may also receive a Content ID claim on the archive after the broadcast ends. YouTube explains its live-stream copyright enforcement here.

YouTube’s live-stream terms say the streamer must have the necessary worldwide rights, including music licensing rights. Read the livestream terms and check the specific license for your catalog. For a stream based in India, also check applicable local requirements: YouTube’s general encoder-streaming guidance does not resolve what permissions or tax obligations apply to a particular creator or catalog.
Set up the laptop stream with OBS
1. Create the broadcast in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Go live.
- Create a new broadcast or schedule one, then choose the encoder option.
- Copy the stream key and server details shown for the broadcast into OBS. Keep the key private. Use the settings provided by YouTube or OBS’s integration rather than constructing an ingestion URL yourself.
YouTube supports encoder-based livestreaming. Its RTMPS guidance describes RTMPS as RTMP tunneled through SSL and says it is a good choice for most ordinary user content, particularly when low latency matters.

2. Configure OBS and add your lofi scene
- Install and open OBS Studio, then run Tools → Auto-Configuration Wizard. OBS describes this as a quick way to get basic settings right; it cannot guarantee that your particular laptop will sustain the selected output indefinitely.
- In OBS’s stream settings, connect the YouTube account or enter the server and stream key from the broadcast in YouTube Studio.
- Add the music playback source and your original visual to a scene. Check that the visual and audio are actually authorized for the planned live and archived use.
- Start with the wizard’s recommended output and test it on your actual laptop and internet connection. There is no universal laptop specification, India broadband threshold, resolution, or bitrate that can be prescribed for every setup.
For a 24/7 lofi format, keep the scene as simple as your creative plan allows. If the laptop struggles, remove unnecessary animated or resource-intensive sources before increasing output demands. Choose quality against the encoding load and upload stability your setup can sustain, rather than assuming a higher setting is always better.
3. Preview and test before going public
- Start the encoder in OBS and wait for YouTube’s Live Control Room to receive the signal.
- Check the preview for the correct image, audible sound, and audio/video sync.
- Review OBS and YouTube diagnostics during a test before relying on the setup for a continuous broadcast.
- When the test is satisfactory, start or schedule the public broadcast using the controls in YouTube Studio.
Keep the stream running—and plan for interruption
A laptop, OBS, and a home internet connection do not come with a platform-backed promise of uninterrupted 24/7 service. Power loss, a dropped connection, a computer problem, or an OBS failure can stop the encoder or broadcast. Decide in advance who will notice and restart the stream, and how they will regain access to the laptop and YouTube Studio. Do not assume one broadcast has a particular maximum runtime; a universal limit is not established here.

Monitor connection health
Watch OBS’s dropped-frame counter and connection indicator, as well as YouTube Live Control Room. OBS says rising dropped frames with a yellow or red connection indicator mean the connection is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. Reduce the stream’s demand or improve the connection, then check diagnostics again. OBS’s dropped-frames troubleshooting guide covers this symptom.
Review the archive and channel status
After the stream ends, check the archive for Content ID claims and review your channel’s monetization status. A long broadcast is not automatically monetizable: YouTube’s monetization rules apply to livestreams and expect original, authentic content rather than generic, repetitive, or mass-produced material. A looping format alone does not guarantee acceptance into the YouTube Partner Program; the channel and its content are assessed in context. Distinct original music, artwork, visual composition, and channel identity can help show authorship, but no format guarantees approval. YouTube’s channel monetization policies describe its rules.
