Short answer: Wowza Video (formerly Wowza Streaming Cloud) documents streaming one hosted video file as a live source, but a playlist of separate prerecorded files is a different requirement. A July 10, 2025 Wowza support response said multi-file scheduled playlist broadcasting was not then available in Wowza Video. For a single-file workaround, combine your clips into one MP4, host it where Wowza can access it, start a Wowza Video stream from that file, and configure YouTube as an external RTMP destination. Check Wowza’s current feature status before relying on the dated playlist answer.
What Wowza Video can do with prerecorded video

Wowza Video’s documented file workflow uses one hosted file as the source for a live stream. Its file guide lists HTTP, HTTPS, GS, and S3 as source protocols. A playlist of multiple files is not the same as looping one file. In a Wowza Community response dated July 10, 2025, technical support representative Jason Hilton said the requested scheduled playlist functionality “doesn’t currently exist in the Wowza Video service” and described it as a feature request for consideration. Send one combined video file through Wowza Video
- Combine and prepare the clips. Export the desired sequence as one MP4. Check the result from beginning to end, including transitions and audio, before using it as the live source. A combined file is a workaround, not a native multi-file schedule, and a very large or long file may be impractical.
- Host the MP4 at an accessible location. Use a source URL available through one of Wowza’s documented protocols: HTTP, HTTPS, GS, or S3. Make sure the file is accessible to Wowza, rather than only to a browser logged into your account.
- Create a Wowza Video live stream with a file source. In the setup workflow, choose Stream from File and provide the file’s source URL. Follow Wowza’s current setup page and UI; labels may vary as the product evolves. Wowza: Live Stream Setup page in Wowza Video
- Wait for the source to load and check the stream. Wowza retrieves the file after the stream starts, so do not assume playback is immediate. Use Wowza’s preview or stream-checking controls to confirm that the video and audio are present before proceeding.
- Add YouTube as an external destination. In the Wowza live-stream details workflow, add an external service target using RTMP. Wowza’s documentation says to get the destination’s ingestion details from that destination. Obtain YouTube’s current ingest URL, stream key, and any account-specific requirements directly from YouTube’s current Live documentation; do not reuse a guessed or outdated server URL or key. - Run an end-to-end check. Confirm the source file remains accessible, Wowza shows the live stream active, and YouTube accepts the incoming feed. Perform this check before the planned broadcast, leaving time to address source access or destination configuration problems.
Loop one file when you do not need multiple-file scheduling
Wowza documents an advanced transcoder property called Play source file on a loop. Enable it only when repeating the same source file is the intended behavior; it does not create a playlist from separate files. Wowza states that looping overrides the idle timeout, and the transcoder continues to incur charges until you manually stop it. Stop the stream when the repeat is no longer needed. Wowza file guide
When a true multi-file schedule is essential
If clips must play as separate scheduled items, Wowza support named Wowza Streaming Engine with its StreamPublisher module as an alternative to the Wowza Video file workflow. Treat that as a separate product and implementation path, not a setting to switch on in Wowza Video. The cited support response does not establish current setup details, plan eligibility, pricing, or service limits; confirm those with Wowza before committing.

Common problems and checks
- The video does not start promptly: Wowza downloads the file after the live stream starts. Check that the source URL is reachable and allow for retrieval before judging playback.
- Wowza cannot retrieve the source: Confirm the URL uses a documented source protocol (HTTP, HTTPS, GS, or S3) and that Wowza can access the file at that location.
- The stream repeats but does not advance to another clip: The documented loop setting repeats a single file. A multi-file playlist requires a different workflow.
- The stream continues after the video would otherwise be idle: Looping overrides idle timeout. Manually stop the stream to end transcoder charges.
- YouTube does not accept the feed: Recheck the current YouTube ingest URL, stream key, and account requirements in YouTube’s own documentation, then verify the RTMP target in Wowza. The current YouTube-specific settings are not specified in Wowza’s general target instructions.
- The combined MP4 is too cumbersome: Wowza support warned that combined file size and duration can make the workaround unusable. Check current Wowza limits and consider the separate Streaming Engine/StreamPublisher route if separate scheduled clips are necessary.
Copyright and YouTube readiness
Before sending prerecorded material live, make sure you have the rights needed to broadcast every video and audio track, including any music, clips, and third-party material. Review YouTube’s current live-stream rules and account requirements directly; the Wowza destination setup documentation does not establish those YouTube policies.
