To keep reading music live on YouTube around the clock, use music whose rights explicitly cover your planned livestream, prepare a looping audio-and-visual feed, and send it through an encoder with a stable internet connection. YouTube may interrupt a live stream when it detects third-party music, even if you have a license but the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel. Also, streams longer than 12 hours may not be archived, and their rewind feature may be limited or unavailable.
Choose a format before building the stream
A single 24/7 broadcast makes music continuously available, but it is not a dependable way to provide a complete replay: YouTube says a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours. If archives or rewind matter to your listeners, schedule shorter sessions and check that each archive is available after the stream ends.
| Format | Best suited to | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| One continuous stream | Listeners who want a feed that stays live without scheduled restarts. | Archive capture is not assured above 12 hours, and rewind may be limited. |
| Shorter scheduled streams | Channels where replay access and session-by-session archives matter. | Someone or something must end and restart each session; interruptions between sessions are possible. |
YouTube’s archive guidance says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams over 12 hours may not be captured. Treat that as a platform limit, not a guarantee that every shorter stream will be archived. A local recording can provide a backup, but it does not replace checking YouTube’s archive.
Confirm music rights before you go live
Use a track only when you have permission or a license that covers the way you intend to use it. Check that the terms include YouTube livestreaming and, where relevant, monetization, territories, archiving, and synchronizing the music with visuals. Attribution alone does not establish permission, and a label such as “copyright-free” is not enough unless you have checked the specific track and its license.

YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can lead to a placeholder replacing the stream and a prompt to stop using the content; if the matched material remains, the stream can be interrupted or terminated. YouTube warns that a stream can still be interrupted even when you have licensed the music if the rights owner has not added your channel to its Content ID allowlist. If a label or distributor controls the music, coordinate with it; YouTube for Artists recommends this for copyright-protected music used in a live stream. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and YouTube for Artists.
Rights depend on the particular composition, recording, territory, license wording, and use. YouTube’s platform guidance explains its enforcement process; it does not determine whether a particular license is sufficient.

Prepare your channel and the music-and-visual feed
Enable live streaming
Verify your YouTube channel and enable live streaming before the day you plan to start. YouTube’s current eligibility guidance says streamers must be at least 16 and the channel must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Allow time to complete channel preparation, then check the current requirements in YouTube Help for getting started with live streaming.
Build a feed that can loop
Put the cleared music and any visual loop into a playback setup that can repeat without gaps, then send that composed feed through an encoder. YouTube supports encoder broadcasts for composed content such as overlays. A software encoder on a computer is a practical starting point; a professional hardware encoder is an option for higher-production-value events, not a requirement for a simple static music feed. YouTube says expensive equipment is not necessary to get started. Follow its encoder setup guidance for the current Live Control Room workflow.

There is no universally required computer specification or special YouTube feature for a 24/7 music loop. If your current computer can run the playback and encoder reliably, you do not need to buy another one solely because the stream is continuous. The important operational issue is that a computer-based setup depends on the computer, encoder, and connection remaining available.
Set up, preview, and start the broadcast
- Prepare the playback source. Arrange the permitted audio and visual loop, and confirm playback repeats as intended before connecting it to the broadcast.
- Create the live broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room. Choose an encoder-based stream and use the stream key shown for that broadcast. Treat the key as private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your channel. If you reuse a key, make sure the encoder is configured for the matching broadcast.
- Connect the encoder to the broadcast. Select the intended audio and visual sources, enter the stream key using the encoder’s current interface, and confirm that the encoder reports a connection. YouTube’s encoder and Live Control Room labels can change, so follow the on-screen setup flow rather than relying on an old menu path.
- Leave upload headroom. Your available upload speed must exceed the stream’s outgoing bitrate and leave capacity for fluctuations and other network activity. YouTube recommends 20% headroom in its general streaming tips; a connection that only just matches the encoder bitrate has no such margin.
- Preview before going public. Check the incoming preview in Live Control Room for audible music, a stable image, and the intended loop. Review stream health and resolve warnings before starting or scheduling the broadcast.
- Choose the session length deliberately. If you want an archive, plan to end and restart sessions before they reach 12 hours, then verify the resulting archive. Keep a local recording if you need a backup. If uninterrupted availability matters more than a complete replay, decide how you will handle restarts and gaps.
- Monitor the broadcast. Watch YouTube’s stream-health information and check the encoder and connection. A 24/7 service needs a plan for network or encoder failures; YouTube’s guidance does not promise uninterrupted availability.

Keep archives and rewind expectations realistic
YouTube’s current Help guidance distinguishes archive capture from the live broadcast itself: streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR is a separate concern: rewind can be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. A live feed can therefore stay available while failing to provide the full-day replay experience a listener might expect. For the current details, see YouTube’s archive live streams guidance and YouTube’s DVR guidance.
Troubleshoot common 24/7 stream problems
- YouTube replaces the picture or interrupts the stream: Check for a third-party-content match. Stop using the matched material and contact the rights owner or its label or distributor. If you have a license, ask whether your channel has been added to the Content ID allowlist; possession of a license alone may not prevent an interruption.
- The encoder disconnects or stream health deteriorates: Check the encoder’s connection, the outgoing bitrate, and other upload traffic. Increase the available upload margin, remove competing network use, and test the setup again before restoring a long session.
- The stream has no sound or the wrong visual: Confirm the encoder is receiving the intended audio and video sources, then inspect the Live Control Room preview before restarting the broadcast.
- A long broadcast has no complete archive: Streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. If full-session replay is important, use shorter sessions and verify each archive; consider keeping a local recording as a separate backup.
- Listeners cannot rewind far enough: DVR may be limited or unavailable on broadcasts longer than 12 hours. Shorter sessions are the more appropriate format when rewind access is a priority.
- The stream stops when nobody is watching: Viewers do not keep an encoder running. Check whether the computer, playback software, encoder, power, or home connection stopped, and make a restart and monitoring plan for the equipment you use.
