You can keep a white-noise or rain stream live on YouTube by sending a looping audio-and-video program from an encoder to YouTube Live. First clear the rights to both sound and visuals, then configure the encoder with the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio, check the preview, and monitor the broadcast. A live feed lasting all day is not the same as a guaranteed complete 24-hour replay: YouTube’s encoder guidance states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived.
What you need before going live
An encoder workflow sends your prepared audio and visual program to YouTube Live. You can use encoder software on a computer or a hardware encoder; the choice depends on your setup and how you will maintain and monitor it. YouTube supports encoder-based streaming.
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days.
- An encoder and a reliable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the stream.
- A continuous audio-and-visual program made from content you created or have permission to use for live streaming and archiving.
- Access to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room to create the stream, retrieve its connection details, and inspect the preview.
Clear the sound and visual rights first
You need the rights required to transmit the program worldwide on Google services, and those rights must also cover any replay you intend to keep. Original rain recordings and visuals can simplify rights management. If you use licensed material, read the license for its precise scope: permission for personal use or ordinary uploads does not necessarily include continuous livestreaming, worldwide distribution, or archiving. “Royalty-free” by itself does not establish that every use is allowed.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A stream can be interrupted if a match is detected. Even when you have a license, the rights owner may need to allowlist your channel in Content ID to prevent a licensed broadcast from being interrupted. Resolve that with the rights owner before scheduling a long stream.

Set up the YouTube Live connection
- Check eligibility. In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and confirm that the channel is eligible to stream. YouTube’s eligibility overview says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days.
- Create an encoder stream. In Live Control Room, create or schedule a stream using the encoder workflow. If you want viewers to know when it is coming, schedule it early enough to configure and test it before the start time.
- Copy the connection details. Get the server URL and stream key shown for the stream in Live Control Room, then enter them in the matching fields in your encoder. The stream key is a credential: do not publish it, share it unnecessarily, or expose it in a recording or screenshot. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before broadcasting.
- Configure the continuous program. Set the encoder to send your prepared rain or white-noise audio with its intended image or video loop. Check that the loop repeats cleanly and that the audio remains present and at a consistent level across the transition. Set the encoder’s output according to the source media and the bandwidth your connection can sustain; do not assume a higher output setting improves a recording that was made at lower quality.
- Preview before publishing. Start the encoder and inspect the Live Control Room preview. Check both picture and sound, confirm that the correct stream is receiving data, and only then make the stream public or start the scheduled broadcast.
YouTube’s Live Control Room and encoder settings may offer controls such as latency, DVR, and automatic start or stop. Choose those deliberately for the stream; do not enable automatic start or stop without understanding how your encoder and YouTube stream will behave together.
Keep the stream dependable
A 24/7 broadcast depends on more than the initial connection. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom. Account for the combined bitrate if you are using a primary and backup encoder, and use a reliable network connection. A computer-based encoder also means the computer, software, and network must remain operational; plan for routine checks and recovery rather than assuming uninterrupted operation.

- Check the Live Control Room preview and the stream’s audio and video after starting, and monitor them during the broadcast.
- Keep the encoder and network setup stable; avoid unnecessary updates or configuration changes during a stream.
- If you have a backup encoder, test failover before relying on it. YouTube recommends testing by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet connection, then confirming that the backup takes over as intended.
- If power continuity matters, consider backup power sized for the actual equipment and the runtime you need. It can reduce one kind of interruption, but it does not protect against internet, software, or platform problems.
Plan replays separately from the live broadcast
YouTube’s encoder help page says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish that a single stream running for 24 hours will be preserved as a complete replay. If viewers need an archive, check the current Live Control Room behavior and consider planned, scheduled segments so the replay boundaries are clear. A stream staying live and a complete replay being available are separate outcomes.
Understand monetization limits
Eligible channels can enable live-stream ads and fan-funding features, but YouTube does not guarantee that ad slots will serve. Ad delivery and earnings therefore cannot be promised for a continuous ambient stream.

YouTube’s monetization policy update dated July 15, 2025 renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and clarifies that repetitive or mass-produced material can be ineligible for monetization. A minimally altered loop may raise a channel-level monetization concern; eligibility is not assured just because you own or licensed the recording. Review YouTube’s current channel monetization policies before building a plan around revenue.
Troubleshoot common problems
