Wowza does not publish enough accessible rate information to calculate a reliable current price for a 24/7 YouTube stream. Its documented 24×7 model combines a flat fee per stream with separate per-gigabyte bandwidth and egress charges, and the per-GB rate can fall as usage rises. To estimate your bill, you need the rate schedule for your account and region, plus your stream configuration and traffic.
“Wowza Streaming Cloud” is a legacy product name. Current public product pages feature Wowza Flowplayer OVP and Wowza Streaming Engine, while the relevant 24×7 setup and cost guidance appears in Wowza Video documentation labeled legacy. Confirm which product and billing mode your account offers before using any estimate.
How Wowza bills a 24/7 stream
Wowza’s guidance for Wowza Video 24×7 describes three distinct cost components:
- Flat per-stream subscription: a recurring charge for each 24×7 stream.
- Bandwidth: billed separately by the gigabyte.
- Egress: also billed separately by the gigabyte.
Wowza says the per-gigabyte rate decreases with higher usage, but the accessible public guidance does not establish the current rate card. The exact total therefore depends on your account’s current pricing, region, stream mode, bitrate and traffic. Request or check the applicable rate schedule before budgeting; an event-stream hourly price is not a substitute for the 24×7 subscription model. A 24×7 channel is an always-on billing mode for one channel, not simply a standard event stream multiplied by all the hours in a year. Wowza’s API describes the mode as unlimited stream time for one channel, without time overages. A non-leap year has 8,760 hours (24 × 365), useful for estimating operating time and data volume—not for multiplying an event-hour tariff by 8,760. See the Wowza Video API billing-mode description.
What you need for a cost estimate
Ask Wowza or consult the rate schedule shown for your account, then gather the inputs below. Without both the applicable rates and a traffic estimate, a dollar total would be speculative.

- Number of 24×7 channels and the per-channel subscription price for your account and region.
- Whether each channel uses passthrough or adaptive bitrate transcoding.
- Average delivered bitrate and planned active hours. For a continuously operating channel in a non-leap year, use 8,760 hours as the calendar input.
- Expected audience and viewing hours if Wowza is responsible for delivering the stream to viewers.
- Which source, destination and viewer traffic is counted as Wowza bandwidth or egress under your configuration.
- Any separate cloud infrastructure bill if you deploy Wowza Streaming Engine on a public-cloud provider.
Estimate network volume—not your Wowza bill
For a rough decimal-gigabyte transfer estimate, use:
average bitrate in Mb/s × active seconds ÷ 8,000 = approximate GB

This is arithmetic, not a Wowza quote. It does not determine which traffic Wowza bills as bandwidth or egress, and actual billed volume may differ because of rendition mix, protocol overhead, source and destination accounting, and the provider’s definitions. It also does not account for a specific audience size or viewing pattern; supply those inputs when estimating delivery traffic.
How stream settings affect cost
Passthrough
Passthrough sends the source directly without transcoding. It generally uses fewer bits than producing multiple renditions, but whether it is the cheaper choice depends on the workflow and the traffic Wowza bills. It also does not create alternate quality versions for viewers with different devices or connection speeds.

Adaptive bitrate
Adaptive bitrate transcoding creates multiple renditions for different devices and bandwidth conditions. That can add processing and bandwidth costs. Compare the complete configuration and its billed traffic against passthrough rather than assuming one mode is always cheaper. Wowza outlines these trade-offs in its transcoding guidance.

Wowza’s setup documentation says a 24×7 stream continues until it is manually stopped or stopped using a schedule. It does not automatically stop after 20 minutes idle. The same documentation says 24×7 streams cannot be recorded, do not support 4K, and cannot have their billing mode changed after creation. Choose the mode and check these constraints before creating a channel. See Wowza’s Live Stream Setup documentation.

An older Wowza Streaming Cloud overview described custom RTMP stream targets including YouTube. That establishes that the workflow was documented historically, not that current account labels or YouTube ingest requirements are unchanged. Before configuring a destination, confirm present-day compatibility and setup instructions in your Wowza account and current product documentation. Do not confuse Wowza Video 24×7 with Streaming Engine pricing
Wowza Streaming Engine is a separate product from Wowza Video 24×7. Wowza’s current Streaming Engine pricing page lists Basic Monthly at $195 per month and One Month of Streaming at $295 as a one-time purchase. Those are Streaming Engine prices, not the per-stream 24×7 subscription rates. A cloud deployment may also incur the cloud provider’s compute, storage and bandwidth charges in addition to the Wowza license. Check the current details on Wowza’s pricing page.
