Vimeo’s 24/7 feature requires an Enterprise plan with the Extended streaming add-on; it is RTMP-only and disables recording, DVR, and simulcasting. If YouTube must be live continuously, use a YouTube-focused method instead. The steps below distinguish the two Vimeo workflows so you do not mistake a standard YouTube simulcast for a 24/7 setup.
What Vimeo can—and cannot—do for a 24/7 YouTube stream
Vimeo’s feature for continuous events is called Extended streaming. Vimeo describes it as a way to keep an RTMP event running without a time limit while an encoder continues sending video. It is an Enterprise add-on, and the operator ends the event manually.
That continuous Vimeo mode cannot simulcast to YouTube or other destinations. Vimeo’s ordinary event simulcast is a separate feature: it can send an event to YouTube, but it is not available while Extended streaming is enabled. So Vimeo Livestream does not offer a documented single-event switch that keeps the same 24/7 feed running on both Vimeo and YouTube.
| Workflow | What it does | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Vimeo Extended streaming | Keeps a Vimeo RTMP event active while an encoder sends video; requires the Enterprise add-on. | No Vimeo-side simulcast, recording, or DVR. |
| Vimeo event simulcast to YouTube | Sends a regular Vimeo event to YouTube through an integration or custom RTMP destination. | A separate finite-event workflow; it cannot run in Extended streaming mode. |
If your actual requirement is one continuous YouTube stream, choose a YouTube-compatible approach and validate its uptime, restart behavior, and account eligibility. A separate encoder output to Vimeo and YouTube might be architecturally possible, but the documentation does not establish a particular dual-output setup as compatible or tested for uninterrupted 24/7 use.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set up a continuous event on Vimeo
These steps produce a 24/7 Vimeo event, not a 24/7 YouTube simulcast.
- Confirm eligibility. You need Vimeo Enterprise with the Extended streaming add-on enabled. Vimeo says to contact your account manager or sales team to enable it.
- Create an RTMP event. Create the Vimeo live event and choose an RTMP encoder workflow. Extended streaming is available for RTMP streams, not Vimeo Live production mode.
- Enable Extended streaming. In the event settings, open Production. Turn off Record event and DVR, then turn on Extended stream. Check the current controls in your account, since labels can change.
- Configure the encoder and keep it sending. Send the event’s video and audio from a dependable encoder with a stable internet connection. Test picture, sound, and recovery behavior before relying on the feed. The event stays active while the encoder signal continues; end it manually when you are finished.
- Plan separately for an archive. Extended streams cannot be recorded or saved in the Vimeo library. If you need a recording, arrange a local or external recording workflow and test it independently.
Vimeo’s standard event limits
Vimeo’s Help Center lists a 12-hour limit per stream for standard Advanced and Premium events, and for Enterprise events without the Extended streaming add-on. It lists up to two simultaneous streams on Advanced and up to three on Premium and Enterprise. The same documentation lists encoder limits of up to 5,000 kbps and 30 fps on Advanced and Premium, and up to 9,000 kbps and 60 fps on Enterprise. These are plan limits, not recommended YouTube settings; confirm current terms and account availability with Vimeo before planning a broadcast.

Set up a normal Vimeo event simulcast to YouTube
This workflow is useful for a regular Vimeo event that should also appear on YouTube. It does not remove the Extended streaming incompatibility.
- Check account requirements. Vimeo says event simulcasting requires Advanced or Premium, or Enterprise with Events. YouTube requires a verified channel for live streaming.
- Create the YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and obtain its stream URL and stream key, or prepare to connect your YouTube account through Vimeo’s integration.
- Choose a Vimeo destination method.
- Direct integration: In the Vimeo event’s Destinations panel, connect and authorize YouTube, set the YouTube privacy option, and enable the YouTube destination.
- Custom RTMP: In the Vimeo event, add a custom RTMP destination and enter the YouTube stream URL and key copied from YouTube Studio. Treat the key as a password; do not publish or share it.
- Start the encoder and verify both endpoints. Confirm the video and audio reach Vimeo and YouTube. For a scheduled YouTube stream sent by RTMP, Vimeo notes you may still need to press Go live in YouTube Live Control Room.
Vimeo documents up to 10 integrated destinations or up to 20 custom RTMP destinations for ordinary simulcasts. Those counts do not make Extended streaming compatible with YouTube.

Prepare YouTube before starting an encoder stream
YouTube’s live-streaming requirements say the channel must be verified and must not have a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so enable it and test before a scheduled broadcast.
For encoder ingest, YouTube supports RTMP or RTMPS. Its encoder guide lists H.264, H.265, or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate; and frame rates up to 60 fps. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds, and recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingest. Use the settings that fit your source and available upload bandwidth rather than treating maximum values as a target. See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance for current resolution-specific recommendations.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume one continuous 24/7 broadcast will produce a complete archive under that policy; plan and test a separate recording or shorter-session strategy if a full archive matters.

Continuous playback does not change the rights needed for the material. Use footage, music, game audio, and other content you own or are authorized to broadcast. A live stream may be interrupted or restricted if it includes material that triggers copyright enforcement. Check YouTube’s current policies and rights for every part of a loop before going live; a playlist’s length or repetition does not establish permission.

Also consider whether a channel built around repeated or minimally changed material complies with YouTube’s monetization rules if monetization is part of the plan. A stream being technically live does not guarantee that its content is eligible for monetization. Review the current YouTube channel monetization policies rather than relying on a particular loop format.
If both Vimeo and YouTube must stay live continuously
Vimeo’s documented Extended mode does not simulcast. A separate dual-output encoder or relay would need to be checked against both services’ ingest requirements, account eligibility, duration limits, and failure recovery. The available documentation does not verify a specific relay configuration for uninterrupted operation, so do not assume that adding a second destination solves 24/7 reliability. Test each destination independently, including what happens after an encoder, network, or platform interruption.
Troubleshoot common setup problems
- Extended stream option is missing: Check that the account has Enterprise and the Extended streaming add-on enabled, and that the event uses an RTMP encoder rather than Live production mode.
- Recording or DVR controls conflict with Extended: Turn off Record event and DVR in the event’s Production settings as required for Extended streaming. Arrange separate recording if you need an archive.
- YouTube does not appear as a destination: Confirm the Vimeo plan supports simulcasting and the YouTube account is connected and authorized. If using RTMP, re-copy the YouTube URL and stream key carefully.
- YouTube receives signal but the scheduled event is not live: Open YouTube Live Control Room and press Go live if the scheduled RTMP workflow requires manual confirmation.
- Live streaming is not available on the channel: Verify the channel and check for restrictions in the prior 90 days. First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours.
- The stream drops or has unstable video: Check encoder output, network stability, and the settings supported by the relevant plan and platform. Test recovery before relying on a continuous broadcast; no configuration can guarantee against every network or service interruption.
- No complete archive appears: YouTube’s automatic archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours; Vimeo Extended streams are not recorded to the library. Use a separate tested recording plan if the whole program must be saved.
