Facebook’s documented download steps here apply to Facebook Live videos you previously shared—not every video post. A video being visible or downloadable does not give you permission to repost it.
Get a video file you can legally reuse
If you still have the original export, use it: it avoids relying on a copy already processed by a social platform. If you do not, Facebook may let you download a Live video that you previously shared. The available controls and their placement can vary by profile, Page, and interface version.
Download a Facebook Live video you shared
- Find the Live video on your profile or Page. On a Page, check the Videos or Live tab; you can also locate it through Meta Business Suite.
- Open the video full screen and select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Download video, if that option is available. Alternatively, Meta describes finding your Live videos in Activity Log and filtering by date range.
- Save the file somewhere you can find it, then check that it plays and includes the picture and audio you intend to upload.
Meta’s instructions cover Live videos you previously shared; they do not establish a universal official download method for ordinary Facebook posts. For a regular video, look for your original file or ask the rights holder to provide a copy rather than treating a third-party downloader as an endorsed solution. See Meta’s Facebook video help.
Do not miss the Facebook Live availability window
Meta’s policy announced February 18, 2025 says new Facebook Live broadcasts beginning February 19, 2025 can be replayed, downloaded, or shared for 30 days before automatic removal. Download a Live you want to keep within that window. Meta’s 90-day notice applied to certain older Lives scheduled for removal during the policy transition; it is not a general current download guarantee. Read Meta’s policy announcement.

Upload the file in YouTube Studio
The documented workflow is for a computer. YouTube notes that upload may not be available for supervised accounts, and that the upload page supports up to 15 videos at a time. For this transfer, you will generally select one file.
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Select Create → Upload videos, then choose the video file on your computer.
- Enter the video details requested in Studio, such as its title and description, and complete any other applicable details.
- Choose a visibility setting: Private, Unlisted, or Public. You can also schedule publication where available.
- Review the upload’s details and checks, then save or schedule it.
YouTube converts uploaded videos to the highest resolution available for playback across devices and network conditions. If Studio rejects the file, consult YouTube’s current supported-format guidance or export a compatible copy from your original editing project; a Facebook download is not guaranteed to retain the original resolution, metadata, or audio licensing. Check rights and quality before publishing
- Get permission for the whole video. Republish only material you created or have permission to reuse. This includes music, game footage, graphics, and other people’s contributions. Public visibility or an available download does not grant reuse rights.
- Use Checks as a screening step. YouTube Studio’s Checks page can flag potential copyright issues before publication, but a clean result does not confer permission or guarantee that no claim will arise.
- Prefer the original export when possible. If all you have is a Facebook-downloaded copy, inspect the image and audio before uploading. The platforms’ instructions do not promise that a downloaded copy matches the original export’s quality or completeness.
- Choose visibility deliberately. Use Private or Unlisted while you review the upload; select Public or schedule it only when the content and rights are ready.
Troubleshoot common transfer problems
| Problem | Likely reason | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No “Download video” option on Facebook | The documented download flow is for eligible Live videos you previously shared; ordinary posts do not have a universal download method established here. | Find your original export or ask the rights holder for a copy. Check the video’s location and menu again if it is a Live you shared. |
| The Facebook Live is no longer available | Meta’s stated 30-day availability window applies to new broadcasts beginning February 19, 2025. | Check whether you saved an original recording elsewhere. If the video has been removed and you do not have a copy, the cited guidance does not establish another recovery method. |
| You cannot upload in YouTube Studio | The account may be supervised, or the selected file may not be in a supported format. | Check whether uploads are available for the account and consult YouTube’s supported-format guidance. If needed, export a compatible copy from the original project. |
| YouTube Checks flags copyright | The video may include copyrighted music or other material. | Resolve the rights issue before publishing—for example, obtain permission or replace material you are not authorized to use. A check result is not a substitute for permission. |
| The upload looks or sounds different from the original | The file may be a platform-processed copy rather than your original export. | Compare it with the original if available and upload the original export when possible. No identical quality or audio outcome is guaranteed for a Facebook download. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep an already-recorded video playing as a 24/7 YouTube livestream, that is a different job from uploading a regular YouTube video. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free first day.
