Can IBM Video Streaming stream to YouTube 24/7?
IBM’s materials describe two capabilities: hosting live video on IBM channels and receiving a feed from an external encoder. IBM says its platform supports simultaneous live streams to multiple channels for 24 hours a day or longer. That is a vendor capability statement about its platform—not independent proof of uninterrupted uptime, and not confirmation of a YouTube destination.
IBM’s encoder guide describes the inbound connection to IBM: an encoder sends video to an IBM channel using its ingest point and channel key or temporary streaming key. The reviewed materials do not document IBM forwarding that feed to YouTube or a native IBM-to-YouTube simulcast workflow. A setup that publishes to both services would require a separately verified production and routing arrangement; confirm the encoder’s current simultaneous-output capabilities, YouTube ingest requirements, and key handling before building it.
In short, IBM Video Streaming may suit an organization that wants continuous viewing on IBM-hosted channels. The available documentation does not establish it as a turnkey way to keep a YouTube channel live around the clock.

What IBM Video Streaming is designed to do
IBM presents Video Streaming as a software-as-a-service platform for live and on-demand video. Its listed capabilities include live and simulated-live broadcasts, video-on-demand (VOD), automatic archiving, embedded players, branded channel pages and portals, APIs, automated captions, search, analytics, chat, and Q&A. Channels can be public or password-protected, and the product describes multi-CDN delivery.
Features and access controls can vary by plan. IBM’s developer materials describe options including password protection, custom viewer authentication, and restrictions on which websites may embed a channel. The API documentation covers channel and account management, viewer authentication, player controls, and analytics. These tools can matter when an organization is building its own video portal or workflow; API availability alone does not establish a YouTube-routing feature.
What you need to connect an encoder to IBM
For the documented IBM ingest workflow, a broadcaster uses a non-IBM encoder and supplies the IBM channel’s ingest point along with the channel key or temporary streaming key. The API response may include RTMP and RTMPS endpoints. The encoder is an optional equipment category, not a universally required specific product; no particular model’s compatibility is established here.

- Create or select an IBM channel. Check the channel’s plan and access settings, especially if the audience should be limited to authenticated or password-authorized viewers.
- Retrieve the channel’s ingest details. Obtain the ingest endpoint and the appropriate channel or temporary streaming key through IBM’s current channel workflow or API.
- Configure a compatible encoder to send video to IBM. Use the endpoint and key IBM supplies. The exact encoder settings depend on the encoder and source; IBM ingest documentation establishes the destination connection, not a universal profile for every device.
- Protect the key and verify the IBM playback path. Treat the key as a credential: do not show it in screenshots or publish it. Confirm the feed on the IBM channel before relying on the broadcast.
This procedure describes sending video to IBM. It does not configure YouTube output. If both destinations are required, verify a separate route rather than assuming IBM will relay the feed.
YouTube requirements still apply to a continuous broadcast
YouTube’s live-streaming help page says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. It also lists a minimum age of 16 for streamers and requires content to comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
- Active stream limits: YouTube lists up to 10 active streams per channel and up to three per stream key; both limits apply.
- Copyright and content rights: A continuous broadcast does not exempt its videos, music, or other material from YouTube’s rules. Use content you own or have permission to stream, and review the relevant policies before scheduling a long-running feed.
- Reused content and channel eligibility: A technically continuous stream does not guarantee monetization or policy approval. Consider whether the material adds meaningful original value and check YouTube’s current channel and monetization policies for your circumstances.
- Stream key security: Do not share or expose a YouTube key. If it is compromised, replace it in YouTube’s live control workflow and update the encoder or service using it.
Policy and platform limits can change. Check YouTube’s current requirements before going live, particularly if you plan to operate multiple streams or use third-party routing.

How much does IBM Video Streaming cost?
IBM’s US pricing page lists the following starting prices and standard allowances. These are vendor-listed figures, not a quote or a guarantee that a particular continuous-viewing workload will fit. Pricing, taxes, overages, and terms can change, so recheck IBM’s page before purchase. Viewer-hour allowances are especially important: a 24/7 channel with sustained viewing can consume them quickly.

IBM lists a 30-day trial for this plan family. Its Custom tier lists Watson Live Captioning among added features. Confirm trial terms and any usage charges with IBM before committing.
Enterprise Video Streaming is a separate plan family
IBM also lists Enterprise Video Streaming plans, with separate starting prices and capabilities. IBM says these plan families cannot be converted into one another, so compare requirements before choosing rather than assuming an upgrade path.

It can be a fit when the goal is an IBM-hosted continuous broadcast, especially if you need channel pages, embedded playback, access controls, APIs, archiving, or analytics. IBM’s statement that simultaneous streams may run 24 hours a day or longer makes continuous operation an intended use case, but it does not establish an uptime guarantee or prove that a specific source will loop indefinitely without interruption.
For continuous YouTube viewing, the key question is destination architecture. The available IBM documentation does not establish a YouTube output or forwarding workflow. Also model likely viewer hours, channel count, storage, security, captioning, and archive needs against the selected plan, and account for whatever separate encoder or service would be responsible for YouTube delivery.
