There isn’t enough information to identify one confirmed cause. First check whether the YouTube Live event itself ended, or whether it is still live but the video source stopped or failed to advance. Those are different problems: YouTube’s encoder guidance says a stream ends when the encoder stops sending content, while it does not explain the loop controls in third-party playlist apps.
First determine what stopped
When the first video finishes, check the Live Control Room, the public watch page and your encoder or playback app. Note whether the event still says it is live, whether the preview continues, and whether the encoder is still sending content. YouTube recommends monitoring stream health and messages and checking the preview before going live (YouTube encoder setup; YouTube streaming tips).
- The YouTube event ended: Check whether the encoder, script or other tool supplying the stream stopped transmitting when the video ended. YouTube’s setup guidance says to end a stream by stopping content transmission from the encoder. That makes encoder status an important clue, but does not prove it caused this particular failure. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived (YouTube live stream archive guidance).
- The event remains live, but the video stopped: Investigate the source player, playlist, loop or continuation setting, and any automation that advances the videos. The official YouTube guidance cited here does not document third-party players’ loop settings, so no specific toggle can be named as the confirmed fix.
- The event remains live, but the feed freezes or degrades: Check stream-health messages and encoder/network status. Treat this as a possible delivery issue to investigate, not proof that 4K60 caused the loop to stop.
Before changing settings, record the exact time the first video ends and capture the event status, preview, encoder status and any displayed error. This preserves the distinction between a source that stopped advancing and a broadcast that stopped sending.
Check 4K60 settings separately from loop behavior
YouTube’s published 2160p (4K) at 60fps settings give different bitrate guidance by codec: AV1 and H.265 have a 10–40 Mbps range, while H.264 is listed at a recommended 35 Mbps. Confirm the codec actually in use and compare your encoder’s settings with YouTube’s current guidance before changing them (YouTube live encoder settings).

Bitrate also has to fit your available upload capacity. YouTube recommends leaving 20% bandwidth headroom and advises monitoring stream health; run an upload-speed test and avoid treating a loop failure by itself as evidence of a network problem (YouTube streaming tips).
Check protocol requirements only if you use HLS
Do not apply HLS-specific settings unless your encoder is using HLS ingestion. YouTube’s HLS guidance specifies TS segments lasting one to four seconds, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, and HTTPS POST/PUT. It also notes that HLS sends video in segments and has higher latency than continuous RTMP (YouTube HLS ingestion guidance). These are delivery requirements, not a general explanation for a playlist stopping after one video.

Run a controlled test and capture useful details
- Record your setup: Write down the encoder or playback app name and version, ingestion protocol, codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate and keyframe interval. Note whether the source is one file, a playlist or an automated sequence.
- Test the source without changing stream settings: Preview the playlist or source through the point where the first video ends. Confirm whether another video is queued and whether the source itself advances.
- Test the broadcast path: Before relying on the stream, send representative motion and audio, monitor YouTube’s preview and stream-health messages, and observe what happens when the first video ends. YouTube recommends testing with similar audio and motion and monitoring the stream (encoder settings; streaming tips).
- Change one variable at a time: If the event ends, focus first on whether the encoder stopped transmitting. If the event stays live while the source stops, focus on the player or automation’s continuation behavior. If the feed reports health problems, investigate codec, bitrate and upload headroom independently.
If you need to ask an encoder or player provider for help, include the captured status, error text and configuration rather than only saying that the loop stopped. Avoid buying a router, capture card or replacement encoder before establishing which part of the workflow failed.
