Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor a budget-conscious 24/7 YouTube stream hosted in India, a Mumbai-region Amazon Lightsail Linux VM is a clear fixed-bundle candidate—not a proven cheapest option or a guarantee of uninterrupted broadcasting. Before choosing a machine, calculate the stream’s monthly data transfer at its intended bitrate. Mumbai Lightsail bundles include half the transfer allowances shown in AWS’s general pricing table, and AWS counts both inbound and outbound data. Then test encoding performance, reconnects, and long-run stream health on the actual VM.
Start with the data budget, not the VM price
A continuous stream’s transfer use is primarily bitrate multiplied by time. For 30 days, the planning calculation is bitrate in bits per second × 2,592,000 seconds ÷ 8. These are decimal payload estimates before protocol overhead, not provider bill quotes:
| Continuous video bitrate | Estimated payload over 30 days | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| 3 Mbps | About 972 GB | Already close to a 1 TB allowance before overhead or other traffic. |
| 8 Mbps | About 2.592 TB | Exceeds a 1.5 TB allowance before overhead. |
These figures describe outgoing video payload. AWS says both inbound and outbound data count toward Lightsail transfer, so leave margin for protocol overhead, administration, and any other traffic. Confirm how the provider defines TB, current billing terms, overage charges, and taxes before committing.
A Mumbai Lightsail starting point
AWS’s general Linux Lightsail bundle table lists the following monthly examples. AWS states that Mumbai bundles include half the data transfer allowance shown in that general table, making the Mumbai figures below the relevant planning values. Prices are USD amounts from AWS’s pricing page accessed in 2026; check the current listing and your account’s billing terms.

| General Lightsail bundle | Memory and compute | Storage | General transfer allowance | Mumbai allowance |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $7 USD/month | 1 GB memory, 2 vCPUs | 40 GB SSD | 2 TB | 1 TB |
| $12 USD/month | 2 GB memory, 2 vCPUs | 60 GB SSD | 3 TB | 1.5 TB |
The $7 bundle is marginal for a continuously sent 3 Mbps stream: the planning estimate is about 972 GB in 30 days before overhead, leaving little of the Mumbai allowance for other counted traffic. It is inadequate for a continuous 8 Mbps stream at YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrate for 720p30, whose payload alone is about 2.592 TB per 30 days. The $12 example also falls short of that 8 Mbps estimate. Lowering bitrate can reduce the transfer requirement, but only choose a profile that is acceptable for the source and viewers.
These are bundle examples, not proof that either VM can encode a particular video in real time. Software encoding may use substantial CPU; performance depends on the source, codec, settings, and workload. This official-source comparison is not a deployment test, does not guarantee uptime, and does not establish the full invoice for an individual account in India.

How to choose between cloud providers
Do not call one provider universally cheapest based on headline VM prices alone. Compare equivalent regional offerings and the total costs at the stream’s required workload. Google Cloud lists Mumbai and Delhi Compute Engine regions and documents region-sensitive VM pricing, with internet egress charged separately: Google Cloud VM instance pricing and network pricing. Oracle’s India cloud price list includes compute and outbound data-transfer entries: Oracle Cloud price list for India. Those listings establish alternatives to price-check, but do not provide a complete equivalent 24/7 encoder-VM comparison here.
- Region and route: Check regional availability and latency from your location to the cloud VM and from the VM to YouTube ingest.
- Compute capacity: Compare total monthly cost at the CPU and memory needed by your specific encoder workload, not just the smallest advertised instance.
- Included transfer and egress: Check region-specific allowances, whether inbound and outbound traffic count, and the effective price after the allowance.
- Measured encoding performance: Run the actual source, codec, resolution, and bitrate on the chosen VM and observe CPU use and dropped frames.
- Recovery and operational effort: Evaluate restart supervision, monitoring, alerts, and the time needed to investigate a failed stream.
Configure YouTube ingest and the encoder
YouTube’s published recommendations provide a practical starting profile, not a guarantee that the cloud VM can sustain it. For H.264, YouTube recommends 4 Mbps at 480p30, 8 Mbps at 720p30, and 10 Mbps at 1080p30. Match the output to the source, viewer needs, instance capability, and transfer budget. See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrates.

- Create or schedule the broadcast: In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule the live stream. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream.
- Protect the key: Enter the server URL and stream key in the encoder running on the VM. Treat the key like a password; do not publish it or expose it in a public configuration or log. YouTube’s live setup guidance is at Set up a live stream with an encoder.
- Choose a sustainable output: Set resolution and bitrate using YouTube’s H.264 recommendations as a reference, then account for the 30-day transfer calculation and the Mumbai allowance. Lower resolution or bitrate if the budget requires it.
- Use a suitable contribution profile: YouTube’s documented RTMP/RTMPS encoder baseline uses H.264 and constant bitrate (CBR). Prefer RTMPS for an encrypted contribution feed. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds.
- Keep upload headroom: YouTube’s streaming tips recommend planning for primary bitrate plus backup bitrate plus 20% of the primary bitrate. Verify the actual network path and test rather than assuming that advertised VM transfer alone ensures a stable ingest connection. See YouTube live streaming tips.
- Validate over an extended run: Monitor VM CPU, memory, network transfer, encoder health, YouTube stream health, and reconnect behavior. Test the actual content and profile for long enough to expose resource pressure and interruptions.
- Add recovery safeguards: Configure process restart supervision and alerting, then deliberately stop the encoder or interrupt its process to check recovery. These are operational safeguards, not proof of automatic failover; verify the behavior yourself.
Copyright, live rules, and archives
Using a cloud VM does not change YouTube’s rules for what you may broadcast. Stream only material you have the rights to use, including music, game footage where applicable, and any other audio or video in a prerecorded feed. Check YouTube’s current policies and the permissions relevant to your content before leaving a stream unattended; a technical connection does not establish permission to broadcast.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish that a single uninterrupted 24/7 stream will become one complete archive. If archive access matters, investigate how the current channel workflow handles long streams, segments, and saved videos rather than assuming a 24-hour broadcast will be captured as one file. See YouTube’s archive live streams guidance.

Common problems and what to check
- The monthly transfer allowance is nearly exhausted: Recalculate at the actual continuous bitrate, include overhead and all other counted traffic, and reduce bitrate or resolution if needed. Do not use the general Lightsail transfer figure for Mumbai without applying AWS’s half-allowance rule.
- The encoder drops frames or the stream becomes unstable: Check CPU and memory pressure, encoder health, network use, and YouTube stream health. Try a lower-cost-to-encode profile or a more capable instance, then repeat the extended test.
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Verify the server URL and stream key for the intended broadcast, confirm the encoder is running, and check the selected ingest connection and stream health. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
- The stream does not resume after a process failure: Inspect restart supervision and logs, configure alerts, and repeat a controlled process-stop test. Do not assume a cloud VM automatically reconnects to YouTube.
- A 24-hour broadcast is missing as one archive: The under-12-hour archive guidance does not promise a single archive for a longer continuous stream. Check the channel’s current handling of long broadcasts and use a workflow that accounts for segmentation or archive limits.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a prerecorded YouTube stream without managing a VM, StreamNeo is the first alternative to consider: it keeps an uploaded video or playlist looping from the cloud, at any quality up to 4K 60fps as uploaded for one flat price per slot, and the first day is free with no card. Nothing has to stay on at home; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. StreamNeo is for YouTube and plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera feed.
To use it, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, then go live. The monthly price is $9.99 per month. For Indian creators, UPI works as well as cards. Start the free first day at StreamNeo registration.
