You can stream an ordered playlist of Hindi video files to YouTube Live with FFmpeg, provided the files are compatible with the playlist method you choose. This guide assumes “playlist file” means FFmpeg’s plain-text concat format—not an M3U or M3U8 playlist. Hindi audio or titles do not require a special FFmpeg mode.
What you need before you start
- FFmpeg installed with the encoders and output support your workflow needs. The example below uses
libx264, AAC audio, and the FLV muxer. - Local video files and a plain-text concat list that names them in playback order.
- A YouTube Live event, with its event-specific server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
- A reliable upload connection with enough sustained bandwidth for the selected video bitrate plus audio and network overhead.
Treat the command below as a configuration template, not a tested turnkey command. Check your installed FFmpeg build and YouTube’s current encoder guidance for the resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate you intend to send.
How to create an FFmpeg concat playlist
Make the playlist file
In a working directory containing the videos, create playlist.txt with this structure:
ffconcat version 1.0
file 'video-01.mp4'
file 'video-02.mp4'
file 'video-03.mp4'
The first line is the FFmpeg concat signature. If you use it, put it exactly at the start of the first line—without leading spaces or a byte-order mark. Add one file directive per clip, in the order you want them to play. Relative filenames are simplest; keep the playlist and media in a suitable working directory.

Paths containing spaces, quotes, or special characters need correct quoting and escaping. The concat demuxer’s default safe mode accepts safe relative paths and rejects some absolute or unusual paths. The example command uses -safe 0, which relaxes that check; use it only with a playlist you trust. Do not put untrusted paths or entries in a playlist passed with that option.
Check whether the files are compatible
The concat demuxer presents files one after another and can avoid re-encoding, but it expects the inputs to have matching streams and compatible properties, including codecs, time bases, and stream layout. A set of unrelated Hindi videos is not guaranteed to meet those conditions. If files differ in codec, frame rate, resolution, audio layout, or other relevant properties, normalize them first or build a re-encoding workflow with FFmpeg’s concat filter instead. FFmpeg distinguishes the concat demuxer for compatible inputs from the concat filter for workflows that require re-encoding: FFmpeg concat demuxer documentation and FFmpeg concat filter documentation.
The demuxer adjusts timestamps so the first file starts at zero and later files follow earlier ones. Missing or inaccurate duration information can produce timestamp or transition problems; where durations are known and reliable, explicit duration directives may help. Check the joined output rather than assuming a playlist is seamless.
How to send the playlist to YouTube Live
Get the event’s ingest details
Open the event in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and copy the server URL and stream key shown for that event. The stream key is a credential: keep it private, do not publish it, and do not paste a real key into a script or example that other people can see. YouTube explains how to connect an encoder and use event stream settings in its encoder setup guidance and stream settings guidance.

Choose settings that match your video
This example encodes H.264 video at 30 fps and uses a 60-frame GOP, which corresponds to a two-second keyframe interval at that frame rate. The example bitrate is illustrative, not a universal YouTube setting. Change the resolution, frame rate, GOP values, and bitrate to suit the actual stream and YouTube’s current recommendations. YouTube’s general encoder guidance recommends CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and says not to exceed four seconds. Its current table, accessed in 2026, lists 10 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p30; that figure applies to that specific codec, resolution, and frame rate, not every stream. Check the current YouTube Live encoder settings before going live.
ffmpeg -re -f concat -safe 0 -i playlist.txt
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -pix_fmt yuv420p
-r 30 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-b:v 4500k -maxrate 4500k -bufsize 9000k
-f flv 'rtmps://YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL/STREAM_KEY'
Replace the placeholder output with the server URL and stream key from your event, combined in the format YouTube provides. Never use the placeholder literally or substitute a real key in any material you share. The command uses RTMPS output and FFmpeg’s FLV muxer, a common combination for RTMP-family streaming. The -re input option reads the playlist at its native rate rather than sending it as fast as FFmpeg can process it.
YouTube’s current general guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS with H.264, H.265, or AV1 video options, up to 60 fps, and CBR. For RTMP/RTMPS it lists AAC or MP3 audio; stereo AAC at 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps is within its published recommendations. Confirm your chosen codec and settings against the live guidance, and verify that your FFmpeg build includes the requested encoder. See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate recommendations.
Preflight and monitor the stream
- In YouTube Studio, create or open the intended live event and confirm the event’s server URL and key.
- Run FFmpeg with the playlist and selected settings. Watch its output for input, encoding, or connection errors.
- Check the preview in Live Control Room. Confirm both picture and sound, and check YouTube’s stream health before relying on the feed.
- Test with representative motion and audio, and run an upload speed test. Allow headroom above the configured stream bitrate for audio and connection overhead; a speed test does not guarantee uninterrupted service.
How to keep the playlist playing
A concat list is finite: FFmpeg processes its entries and reaches the end of input. FFmpeg documents -stream_loop -1 as looping an input indefinitely, but that is not a universal guarantee that a concat-demuxer playlist will restart cleanly as a whole. Do not assume adding it to this command creates a reliable 24/7 loop of every listed clip.

If you need the entire playlist to repeat, use a supported input-generation strategy that explicitly repeats the full sequence, then test end-of-list behavior, timestamp continuity, and audio transitions before using it for a live event. The right approach depends on the playlist and media; the options documented for -stream_loop are described in the FFmpeg advanced options.
When HLS is relevant
HLS is a separate ingest workflow, not a drop-in replacement for the RTMPS command above. YouTube documents HLS ingestion for HDR or codecs not supported by RTMP. Its current HLS setup guidance specifies 1–4 second segments, TS format, HTTPS POST/PUT, no byte ranges, and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments. YouTube also notes that HLS has higher latency than RTMP. Choose it only when your codec or workflow calls for it, and follow the platform’s HLS ingest instructions.
Common problems and fixes
FFmpeg rejects a file path
Check for typos, incorrect quoting, and paths that are not relative to the directory where you run FFmpeg. The concat demuxer’s safe mode rejects some absolute or unusual paths. Prefer safe relative paths; if you deliberately use -safe 0, do so only for a playlist you trust.
The playlist fails at a clip boundary
The files may not have compatible stream layouts, codecs, time bases, or related properties. Normalize the media or use a concat-filter workflow that re-encodes, rather than assuming stream-copy concatenation will work with arbitrary files. Incorrect duration information can also cause timestamp issues.

YouTube does not show a healthy preview
Confirm you copied the correct event’s server URL and stream key, that the key has not been mistyped, and that FFmpeg is connecting to the intended RTMPS endpoint. Then check codec, frame rate, CBR, keyframe interval, and bitrate against YouTube’s current guidance. Review FFmpeg’s connection messages and YouTube’s stream-health status.
Video or audio is missing or unsuitable
Check whether every playlist entry actually contains the expected video and audio streams and whether their layout is compatible. Confirm FFmpeg is using an available encoder, and inspect the Live Control Room preview before starting the event for viewers.
The stream stops after the last video
That is the expected end of a finite concat list. A playlist file does not by itself make playback continuous; arrange and test an explicit whole-playlist repeat strategy if repetition is required.
