Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsOBS Studio can shuffle and loop a YouTube lofi radio playlist, but its documented shuffle does not guarantee that a track will never repeat before every other track has played. For strict no-repeat playback, use a history-aware scheduler that remembers played tracks; for ordinary variety, OBS’s VLC Video source is the simplest do-it-yourself setup.
Choose the shuffle behavior you actually need
“Shuffle” can mean a randomized order, or it can mean a strict rule: play every track in the library once before any track repeats. Those are different requirements.
| Approach | What it does | Repeat behavior | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| OBS VLC Video source with shuffle and loop | Randomizes a playlist of media files and loops the list. | A shuffled order can recur on later loops; strict cross-cycle de-duplication is not established. | Background-radio variety without a hard no-repeat rule. |
| History-aware playlist scheduler | Tracks played IDs and selects only files not yet played. | Can avoid repeats until the eligible pool is exhausted if the scheduler is correctly implemented and retains its history. | A strict no-repeat requirement. |
OBS’s official media-source documentation describes separate Loop Playlist and Shuffle Playlist controls. The VLC source implementation applies shuffle when source settings are updated; it does not document a fresh history-aware selection after every loop. An OBS forum report describes an order repeating on later loops, but that is anecdotal—not a universal guarantee.
Prepare music you can legally livestream
Before building the playlist, confirm that you have the rights needed to broadcast every recording on YouTube Live. YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions say: “you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.”

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Check that a license explicitly covers livestreaming and the intended territory and duration. “Royalty free” or permission to use music in ordinary videos does not by itself establish that continuous livestream use is allowed.
- If a rights holder uses Content ID, ask whether your channel must be added to its allowlist. YouTube warns that even licensed third-party content can interrupt a live stream if the channel is not allowlisted.
- Keep license records and any allowlisting confirmation accessible. You remain responsible for resolving rights issues if a claim interrupts the broadcast.
Build a looping playlist in OBS
- Install VLC with the matching architecture. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC to be installed. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. If the source is missing, check the installation and architecture before troubleshooting the playlist.
- Create a scene. In OBS, add or select a scene for the radio broadcast. Add your visual assets as scene sources, then add a VLC Video source for the playlist. The built-in Media Source can play an individual file, but VLC Video is the playlist-capable source described in OBS’s guide.
- Add the media files. In the VLC Video source’s properties, add the local audio/video files in the order you want them listed. Preview the files and confirm that their audio and visuals behave as intended.
- Enable the playlist controls. Turn on Loop Playlist so playback starts again when the list ends, and Shuffle Playlist to randomize the file order. These controls provide a shuffled looping list, not a documented guarantee that each loop gets a new order or that no track repeats across a loop boundary.
- Check sound and transitions. Listen to several files, including the end of one track and the start of the next. Set levels so audio is present without clipping, and check that any visual sources remain suitable throughout playback.
Make strict no-repeat playback possible
If every song must play before any song repeats, a shuffled playlist alone is not enough. Use a scheduler with a persistent played-history set and stable IDs for tracks. Its selection logic should choose only IDs absent from the history, add each completed or started track according to the behavior you require, and clear the history only when the full eligible pool is exhausted.
Before relying on a scheduler for a continuous broadcast, verify these behaviors in a test run:

- It does not select a previously played track while unplayed eligible tracks remain.
- It preserves history after the application or computer restarts.
- It can resume safely after a crash or interrupted stream, including deciding how to handle a track that was playing when the interruption occurred.
- It supports your file formats and the transitions you need, and it can run unattended with useful monitoring.
No particular scheduler is established here as meeting those requirements. For a simpler setup without a strict guarantee, use a substantial library, enable OBS shuffle, and periodically rebuild or reorder the list between planned broadcast sessions.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube’s getting-started guidance says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Check the channel’s current status in YouTube Studio because eligibility and account status can change.
- Create or select an encoder stream. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or select the stream. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions to retrieve the stream URL and stream key.
- Enter the connection details in OBS. Open OBS’s streaming settings, choose YouTube as the service, and enter the stream URL and key from Studio. Treat the stream key as a password: do not publish it or include it in screenshots.
- Start the OBS output and wait for preview. Start streaming from OBS. In Live Control Room, confirm that the incoming picture and audio appear and that YouTube reports the stream as ready.
- Go live and monitor. Start the broadcast in Live Control Room when the preview is correct. YouTube’s live-streaming troubleshooting guidance recommends preparing the encoder, checking the preview, monitoring stream quality, and checking local recording files.
Before making the broadcast public, do a short private or unlisted shakedown. Check playlist advance and loop transition, audio and visuals, YouTube’s incoming-stream status, and whether the computer and connection remain stable under the workload.

Keep a long-running broadcast resilient
A playlist loop is not the same thing as a resilient live broadcast. OBS must continue producing and sending the signal, and a network interruption can break the stream. YouTube recommends testing the setup, monitoring stream quality, using a reliable connection, and leaving upload-bandwidth headroom. Plan how you will notice an interruption and restart the encoder; no device or service is established here as guaranteeing uninterrupted availability.
Plan for the archive separately
YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived. A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all, and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. If a complete replay matters, record locally and check the recording files. Size storage against the recording bitrate and duration rather than assuming a particular drive capacity. Planned sessions below YouTube’s stated threshold can make the archive behavior more predictable, but ending and restarting interrupts the live audience; communicate any schedule in advance.
