To add ads or sponsors to a live stream, first choose between platform-served ads and a sponsor deal you arrange directly or through a creator program. Check that your account and platform allow the option, follow the campaign brief, use the platform’s branded-content control when one is available, and clearly disclose the relationship aloud and on screen. Treat those as separate workflows: enabling ads does not automatically create a sponsor integration, and a platform label does not necessarily replace your own disclosure.
Choose between platform ads and a sponsor
Platform-served ads are managed through a platform’s creator tools and account-specific controls. A sponsor integration is a deal to promote a company or product during your stream, often with agreed deliverables such as a verbal mention, an overlay, a link, or a saved clip. Eligibility, controls, compensation and terms vary by platform, account and campaign.

Twitch Creator Camp treats “Running Ads” and “Sponsorships” as separate monetization topics and says creators need Affiliate status to start monetizing Twitch tools. That does not establish current eligibility or controls on other services—or the detailed ad terms available to every Twitch account—so confirm what your own dashboard shows.
Check the platform’s rules before placing sponsor material
YouTube
YouTube Help says creators may include paid product placements, sponsorships and endorsements, but must select the paid-promotion box in the video details and follow applicable laws and YouTube policies. For a livestream, check the current live-stream and video details controls available to your account, and make the disclosure clear to viewers as well as using the platform control.

YouTube’s ads policy does not allow creators to burn or embed advertiser-created and supplied video ads or other commercial breaks into content. YouTube directs interested advertisers toward a Partner Manager for ads served against content. Its guidance permits certain static sponsor title cards of five seconds or less and static end cards within the last 30 seconds, subject to the conditions on that help page. Those allowances are not permission to insert a supplied commercial; check the current policy and its conditions before using a card.
Twitch
Twitch’s Branded Content Guidelines describe a disclosure tool in the Creator Dashboard for branded content. Use that control for sponsored or promoted content, and provide a clear in-stream disclosure too. Twitch says creators and brands remain responsible for understanding the relevant legal and disclosure obligations.
In an announcement dated August 20, 2026, Twitch said Affiliates must become Creator Sponsorship Certified to be eligible for sponsorship opportunities. Twitch also says Partners and Affiliates with a completed Creator Profile can improve their chances of opportunities and feature sponsorship highlights. The Creator Profile setup guide describes it as a way to give brands and agencies working directly with Twitch channel, audience and sponsorship-interest information. Requirements and opportunities can change, so check the Sponsorships dashboard for current criteria.

TikTok LIVE
TikTok support describes a LIVE disclosure route: open LIVE settings, choose Content disclosure, enable Disclose LIVE content, and identify whether you are promoting your own brand or third-party branded content. TikTok also describes brand-partner tagging and ad authorization. Because the support page was not directly accessible when this guidance was assembled, verify the current labels and steps in the app before going live.
Agree on the campaign before you stream
Read the brief and contract before accepting a sponsor offer. The exact terms belong to that campaign; don’t assume another creator’s deal or a platform program’s example applies to yours. Get the important requirements in writing, including:

- Deliverables: required stream length, number and timing of shoutouts, overlays, links, commands, or other placements.
- Payment: whether compensation is a flat fee, performance-based, or a combination; what counts as completion; payment timing; and any approval conditions.
- Rights and restrictions: whether the sponsor can reuse the stream or clips, for how long, and whether exclusivity or category restrictions apply.
- Claims and wording: required talking points, claims the sponsor has substantiated, prohibited language and disclosure wording.
- Evidence and deadlines: whether a VOD must remain available, which clips or proof to submit, how to submit them and when.
Streamlabs’ campaign guidance illustrates why the brief matters: campaign requirements can include minimum stream length, overlays or shoutouts, conversion goals and delivery timelines, and its assets, codes and links vary. Its FAQ says creators submit clips after a stream, campaigns must currently be run from Streamlabs Desktop, and ending a campaign early terminates the application and makes the creator ineligible for payout. These are Streamlabs-specific conditions, not universal sponsorship rules.
Prepare the stream and its disclosure
- Confirm the campaign and schedule. Check dates, length, required moments, deliverables and deadlines against the signed agreement and final brief.
- Set up assets while offline. Test the sponsor overlay, panel, command or link before the broadcast. Make sure required text is legible and does not cover important game information, accessibility elements or platform controls.
- Prepare accurate talking points. Put required details into your own natural wording, but do not change the meaning of required claims. Ask the sponsor to substantiate product claims that need evidence; don’t make unsupported promises.
- Set up platform disclosure. Find the relevant paid-promotion or branded-content control in the platform’s current creator or LIVE settings. Do not assume one service’s control satisfies another’s requirements.
- Plan the spoken and visible disclosure. Prepare a short line and an on-screen label such as “Sponsored” or “Ad.” Check that the text can be read on mobile and remains visible long enough to register.
- Confirm VOD and proof requirements. Check whether the recording must stay enabled, which clips or screenshots are required, and where to submit them. Save the final brief and agreement.

Disclose clearly—and repeat it during the live
Federal Trade Commission staff guidance for the United States says a material connection includes payment and free or discounted products or services. The creator is responsible for disclosure. FTC staff advises making it hard to miss, placing it near the endorsement, using simple language and repeating it periodically during a livestream so viewers who join partway through see it. The guidance says not to assume a platform tool alone is enough.
Use plain wording viewers can immediately understand, for example: “This segment is sponsored by [brand],” “I received this product for free from [brand],” or “Ad.” Put a visible label on screen as well as saying it aloud. Repeat the disclosure periodically, especially when the sponsored segment starts or returns after a break; an opening announcement alone may not reach late arrivals.
FTC staff also advises creators not to claim personal experience with a product they have not tried, praise a product they believe is bad just because they are paid, or make claims that require evidence the advertiser does not have. This is U.S. guidance, not a complete guide to worldwide law. YouTube points creators to local legal resources and notes that requirements differ by jurisdiction, so check the rules where you and your audience are located.

Run the campaign and keep proof
- Start the stream with the platform control enabled and required assets in place.
- Deliver each contracted placement at the agreed time and use the planned disclosure.
- Keep the stream, overlay and links consistent with the final brief; if a technical problem prevents a deliverable, document it and contact the sponsor rather than silently substituting something else.
- After the stream, save the required VOD or clips and submit proof through the channel specified in the agreement or campaign dashboard.
- Keep a copy of the campaign terms, submitted materials and any approval or payment confirmation.
Common problems and what to do
- You cannot find an ads or sponsorship control: The option may depend on platform, account status or current program criteria. Check the account’s live dashboard and official current guidance; do not assume another creator’s access means yours is eligible.
- The sponsor overlay or link is missing: Test the scene, panel, command or destination link before going live. If a promised placement fails during the stream, record what happened and ask the sponsor how to handle the missed deliverable.
- Viewers who arrive later do not know the stream is sponsored: Repeat a concise spoken disclosure and keep a clear on-screen label visible during the sponsored segment.
- The brief asks for a claim you cannot verify or honestly support: Ask the sponsor for substantiation or revised wording before the stream. Do not state a claim as fact merely because it appears in campaign copy.
- A campaign’s length or proof requirements are unclear: Get the required duration, VOD/clip format, submission location and deadline confirmed in writing before starting.
- A platform rejects or restricts an asset: Pause use of the asset, review the applicable platform policy and contact the sponsor about an allowed alternative. YouTube’s rules on supplied commercial videos are not interchangeable with its limited static-card guidance.
