Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesMonitor a 24/7 YouTube stream in three places: OBS for encoder and frame performance, your operating system for overall and per-process CPU activity, and YouTube Live Control Room for stream health and status messages. None of these views alone proves the stream is running correctly. Check them together during a representative test and while the broadcast is live.
What each monitor tells you
| View | What it shows | What it cannot establish by itself |
|---|---|---|
| OBS status area and Stats | CPU usage and additional rendering, encoding, and frame-related performance indicators. | Whether YouTube is receiving a healthy stream across the network. |
| Operating-system CPU monitor | System activity and, depending on the monitor, which processes are using CPU. | Whether the encoder output is reaching or playing correctly on YouTube. |
| YouTube Live Control Room | Stream health and YouTube status messages, including instructions when an issue is reported. | Which local process is consuming CPU. |
Use the views together: OBS reports on local production, the OS helps identify system load, and YouTube reports on its side of delivery. OBS notes that CPU demand varies with encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity, so there is no universal CPU percentage that is safe for every 24/7 setup. OBS system requirements discuss factors affecting workload; interface details can vary by OBS version.
Set up a baseline before the long broadcast
- Use representative content. Test with the actual scene or video, typical motion, and audio. A static screen may not reveal the load of a more complex scene.
- Confirm the stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Check the preview and stream health before relying on the broadcast. YouTube recommends testing before going live and checking stream health and messages during the event. YouTube: Create a live stream with an encoder
- Note the conditions. Record the encoder, resolution, frame rate, scene, and observed CPU and frame indicators. This gives you a useful comparison point if the load changes later.
- Check upload capacity separately. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload bandwidth headroom; this is network guidance, not a CPU target. YouTube encoder setup guidance
Monitor CPU and stream health while live
In OBS
Keep the OBS status area visible. OBS community guidance describes CPU usage, preview frame rate, and dropped frames in the status area by default. For more detail, use View > Stats. Menu placement or labels may differ across versions. Dropped frames can indicate that encoded frames sent over the network are not reaching the destination; compare that indicator with YouTube’s health status rather than assuming CPU is the cause. OBS status-bar guidance
In the operating system
If OBS reports rising load or instability, inspect CPU activity outside OBS and identify which process is using resources. This helps distinguish encoder workload from other applications. OBS troubleshooting advises considering other resource-heavy applications and reducing unnecessary work when performance is affected. OBS encoding performance troubleshooting

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
In YouTube Live Control Room
Check stream health and read any status messages or suggested actions. A low CPU reading does not rule out a network or ingest problem; YouTube’s health view covers a different part of the stream path. YouTube recommends reviewing health and messages during the event. YouTube encoder setup guidance
Open the CPU monitor on macOS
- Open Activity Monitor and click CPU to view processor activity over time.
- Check the bottom of the window for System, User, and Idle shares.
- For separate windows, choose Window > CPU Usage for current activity or Window > CPU History for recent activity.

Windows and Linux: use the local CPU view, but verify your interface
Use your system’s built-in CPU monitor to inspect overall and process-level activity, then compare it with OBS and YouTube. Exact navigation can depend on Windows version or Linux distribution and desktop environment; the available platform guidance here does not establish current, version-specific click paths for those systems. Avoid treating one set of menu instructions as universal.
Troubleshoot a change in CPU load or stream status
- CPU rises and OBS performance worsens: Check which process is consuming CPU, compare the scene and settings with your baseline, and close or reduce unnecessary resource-heavy applications. Encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity all affect demand.
- OBS looks normal but YouTube reports poor health: Check YouTube’s status messages and investigate delivery or upload conditions; a clean local CPU reading is not proof of healthy network delivery.
- OBS reports dropped frames: Check YouTube stream health and available upload bandwidth. YouTube says the stream’s total bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends 20% headroom. That is a bandwidth recommendation, not a CPU threshold. YouTube bandwidth guidance
- Load differs from the test: Recheck what changed—content motion, scene complexity, encoder, resolution, frame rate, or other running applications—and establish a fresh baseline under the new conditions.
Plan around YouTube’s archive behavior
YouTube states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For a nominal 24/7 broadcast, plan separately for the live stream and its archive: do not assume one archived video will contain the entire day-long broadcast. YouTube: Archive live streams
