A 24/7 YouTube stream usually disconnects because the connection from your encoder to YouTube’s ingest server becomes unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate. A speed-test result alone cannot rule that out. It also does not show that Indian internet generally is to blame: check the stream’s actual symptoms, then isolate the encoder, local network, ISP route and YouTube ingest.
Start by identifying what failed
Before changing settings, note the exact time of a disconnect and what the stream was doing immediately beforehand. In OBS, open View > Docks > Stats and watch network-dropped frames, render lag, encoder lag and bitrate during a controlled test. In YouTube Live Control Room, check stream health and its messages. OBS says dropped frames or intermittent disconnections point to a network issue between the computer and the remote ingest server; YouTube’s health messages can also flag ingestion starvation or configuration problems. Neither symptom, on its own, identifies an Indian ISP as the cause.
- Network-dropped frames rise before the disconnect: investigate upload stability, Wi-Fi, cables, router, VPN or other network software, and the route to YouTube.
- Render lag or encoder lag rises: investigate the computer’s rendering or encoding load rather than assuming a network fault.
- YouTube reports ingestion starvation: too little video is reaching YouTube to maintain a smooth stream. Check upstream delivery and bitrate headroom.
- YouTube reports bitrate, keyframe or codec errors: verify the encoder settings against YouTube’s supported guidance.
- Only YouTube fails while another service works: that narrows the investigation toward the YouTube path or ingest, but does not prove throttling.
- The failure coincides with a router restart or power interruption: investigate that local event before changing encoder settings.
YouTube’s health-status documentation explains the messages for live stream configuration issues. Record the exact message and time, rather than treating all warnings as evidence of the same fault.
Check that your upload can sustain the stream
Compare sustained upload with the configured bitrate
A plan’s advertised speed or one high speed-test result is not the same as stable upload available to your stream. Test at different times, and if possible run a representative test while streaming. Compare sustained upload capacity with the video bitrate plus audio traffic, leaving room for normal variation. OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide, dated September 30, 2024, suggests 75% of total upload speed as a starting bitrate. Treat that as troubleshooting guidance, not a guarantee: congestion and route conditions can change.

If network-dropped frames appear or the bitrate cannot hold steady, lower the video bitrate and test again. If needed, lower resolution or frame rate as well. YouTube’s encoder guidance says to choose a quality that will produce a reliable stream for your connection. Its current H.264 recommendations include these ranges:

These are YouTube’s codec- and frame-rate-specific recommendations, not measurements of Indian internet performance or a promise that a particular connection will sustain the listed rate. YouTube also publishes settings for AV1 and H.265/HEVC; use its complete encoder settings and bitrate guidance for the codec and output you actually use. Test with representative motion and audio, then monitor stream health during the test.

Isolate Wi-Fi, cables and local equipment
- Test over Ethernet. Connect the streaming computer directly to the router with a known-good cable. OBS warns that Wi-Fi can be unstable for streaming. If the wired test is stable but Wi-Fi is not, investigate wireless signal, interference or equipment.
- Check the wired path. Try another known-good Ethernet cable and router port. A Cat6 cable is one reasonable option for testing or replacing a suspect cable, but it is not a guaranteed fix.
- Restart the modem or router if appropriate. Note whether the disconnect follows a restart or other local network event. OBS lists modems, routers, cables, network cards, switches and extenders as possible hardware fault points.
- Do not replace equipment by guesswork. If wired tests still fail, ask your ISP to help check the connection before buying a new router or other hardware.
Check OBS, security software and the encoder settings
Rule out software affecting the network path
- Temporarily test without a VPN. OBS notes that VPN software can make the ingest connection unstable.
- Check whether firewall or security software, or a network-prioritization utility, is interfering with OBS or deprioritizing its traffic.
- Update network drivers from the computer or motherboard vendor.
- In OBS, check that Settings > Advanced > Network > Bind to IP is set to Default.
On Windows, OBS lists Network Optimizations and TCP pacing as options some users report helpful. IPv4-only can be used as a diagnostic test; if it makes no difference, return to dual-stack. These changes are tests, not universal fixes. OBS’s dynamic bitrate option can lower bitrate during congestion to reduce dropped frames, but it may reduce picture quality and does not repair the underlying connection.
Verify YouTube-compatible encoder settings
For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube recommends RTMPS, CBR (constant bitrate), and a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Its guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 video codecs, and AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS. Check the actual encoder output and YouTube health messages for codec, bitrate, frame rate or keyframe warnings. A configuration warning is a reason to correct the settings; it is not proof that your ISP route is at fault.

Test the route and take useful evidence to your ISP
If your workflow allows a safe test, try a different YouTube ingest server or another service. If the result changes, that is a clue about the destination path, not a final diagnosis. Do not rank or blame Indian ISPs without location-specific evidence.

- Disconnect timestamps and time of day.
- OBS logs and the Stats readings immediately before failure, including network-dropped frames, render or encoder lag, and bitrate.
- Your output resolution, frame rate, codec and configured bitrate.
- Whether the test used Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and whether a different cable or router port changed the result.
- Whether other services or another connection remained stable during the same period.
- The exact YouTube Live Control Room health message, if one appeared.
OBS notes that congestion or changes along the network route can be outside a streamer’s control. Timestamped comparisons give your ISP more to work with than a single speed-test screenshot.
