To run a 24/7 Carnatic instrumental channel on YouTube, clear the rights to every recording and its composition, enable live streaming on your channel, then send a continuous audio-and-video program through an encoder to YouTube Live Control Room. A local encoder needs a computer and dependable internet; a cloud service can keep playback running without a home computer. In either setup, Content ID allowlisting and a recovery plan are essential—YouTube can interrupt a stream even when you have a private license.
1. Clear the music rights before building the playlist
Instrumental music is not automatically free to stream. A track can involve separate rights in the sound recording (the master) and in the underlying composition or arrangement. A modern recording of a traditional raga or kriti may still have protected recording rights, and the composition may also have rights. Identify the actual rights holders for each track and get permission for the uses you intend.
YouTube’s live-stream terms place responsibility on the provider to hold all necessary rights for worldwide exploitation of live content, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. A license for one use may not cover all the uses a continuous channel needs.
Document permissions track by track
Use original recordings you control, commissioned performances with written grants, or recordings whose rights holders explicitly authorize the planned YouTube use. For each third-party recording, keep written terms that establish, as applicable, permission for live streaming, territory, duration, monetization, archiving, continuous looping and any restrictions on edits or playback. The rights position depends on the specific track and territory; a general description of a tradition or genre does not establish clearance.

Arrange Content ID allowlisting
Before launch, ask the rights owner or distributor to allowlist your YouTube channel in Content ID. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches and may replace the video with a placeholder, warn you, interrupt or terminate the stream, or take other enforcement action. A private license alone does not ensure that Content ID will leave the stream uninterrupted. YouTube describes this risk in its live-streaming guidance.
Be careful with library tracks and artwork
YouTube describes its Audio Library tracks as copyright-safe within its platform guidance; some Creative Commons tracks require attribution. The library is general production music, so do not assume it contains suitable Carnatic recordings. YouTube also warns that it cannot guarantee music found in other libraries or on other channels is safe to use. Clear the artwork or visualizer as well as the music.

2. Enable live streaming on your YouTube channel
Before configuring an encoder, verify the channel and check that it has no live-streaming restriction from the preceding 90 days. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave this until launch day. YouTube’s live-streaming setup instructions explain channel eligibility and activation.
3. Prepare the audio-and-video program
An audio-led radio stream still needs a video signal. Choose a static title card, cleared artwork or a subtle visualizer, and pair it with the rights-cleared playlist or live performance feed. Test the whole sequence—not just one track—so you can catch silence between files, abrupt transitions, clipping, mismatched levels or a visual that stops updating or disappears.

4. Configure and test the encoder
YouTube supports software encoders running on a computer and standalone hardware encoders. For a continuous prerecorded program, the basic workflow is to create a stream in YouTube Studio, copy its server URL and stream key into the encoder, and start transmission. Exact controls vary by encoder, so use its documentation for the field names and output configuration. YouTube lists encoder options, including cloud-studio options such as Upstream, on its encoder help page; confirm a provider’s current features, terms and suitability directly.
- Create a stream: In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule the live stream. Select the workflow that uses streaming software or an encoder.
- Copy the connection details: Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream into the corresponding encoder fields. Treat the stream key like a password; do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before broadcasting.
- Set up the program: Select the cleared playlist, audio input and continuous video visual in the encoder. Use its output settings that your connection and chosen software can sustain; YouTube’s cited setup guidance does not prescribe a specific computer model or hardware threshold for this channel.
- Send a test feed: Start transmission from the encoder and wait for the preview in Live Control Room. Check both picture and sound there before clicking Go Live.
- Test privately or unlisted: Run a test stream to check the sound, image, transitions and stability from YouTube’s side. Resolve issues before announcing a public launch.
- Go live and monitor: Start the public stream only after the preview and rights checks are ready. Decide who or what will notice a failed encoder, network interruption or YouTube interruption, and who can restart or replace the stream.
A local software encoder makes the creator responsible for the computer, power, network and restart process. YouTube does not establish a universal reliability winner between local and cloud encoders; assess the monitoring, restart options, provider terms and playlist workflow you actually need.

5. Choose a continuity and archive plan
A 24/7 broadcast is a service to operate, not just a playlist to start. Plan for computer or encoder failure, loss of power or internet, a YouTube interruption, and a person or process able to respond. A cloud encoder can reduce dependence on a particular home computer, but it adds a provider dependency and still requires rights clearance and monitoring.
One continuous stream or shorter sessions?
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If a YouTube archive matters, keep a local recording and consider shorter scheduled sessions; test how session changes affect the live page, audience experience and notifications. If you choose one uninterrupted stream, treat its YouTube archive as uncertain rather than as your only recording.
