Plan for Content ID checks, local recording, and YouTube’s archive limit: streams longer than 12 hours may not be saved. A continuous stream is not automatically eligible for monetization.
1. Clear the music rights before you build the stream
Use original compositions and recordings, or obtain permission for every part of the music you plan to broadcast. A recording and the underlying composition can have different rights holders, so clearance for one does not necessarily cover the other.
Keep written records stating what uses are permitted, in which territories, for how long, and whether livestreaming, archiving, and monetization are included. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the provider to hold the necessary rights, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants: Livestream terms and conditions.
Expect Content ID to check the live feed
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. If it detects copyrighted content, it may replace the feed with a placeholder; continued use can interrupt or terminate the stream. A Content ID claim may also be placed on an archived live stream after the broadcast. YouTube advises creators who have a license to ask the rights holder to allowlist their channel through Content ID; a license by itself may not prevent an interruption. Coordinate any required allowlisting with the label, publisher, distributor, or other rights administrator before testing. If you cannot establish permission for a track or its recording, leave it out.
2. Enable YouTube live streaming in advance
- Sign in to the Google account that manages the channel and complete channel verification if it is not already verified.
- Check YouTube Studio for any live-stream restriction. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. The platform’s current help page also sets a minimum age of 16 to livestream.
- Enable live streaming before the planned launch. For a first live broadcast, allow at least 24 hours after enabling it. YouTube documents these requirements in Get started with live streaming.
- Open YouTube Studio, select Create > Go live, and use the Live Control Room to set up a stream or schedule a broadcast. Follow the on-screen prompts to choose an encoder workflow and obtain the stream details.
YouTube’s platform-level limits currently allow up to 10 active streams per channel and three active streams per stream key. Those are ceilings, not a recommendation to operate multiple feeds. Check the linked Help page for current requirements and controls, which can change.

3. Prepare the music program and visual feed
Arrange the tracks into a deliberate listening program: for example, group instrumentals by devotional tradition, mood, or time of day, and decide how often the sequence should repeat. Make sure each recording in the playlist is covered by the rights you have secured. Use a visual that you also have the right to show, such as original artwork or an appropriately licensed image, and identify the channel and program clearly.
YouTube supports encoder-based streaming, which is suited to a programmed feed and can provide overlays and additional production control. It is not a requirement to buy a hardware encoder: an encoder is a method, and the appropriate setup depends on the computer and reliability needs you already have. Choose a format for how people will listen
- Horizontal: a natural fit for long-form listening on TVs and supports live ads, midrolls, and clickable links where available.
- Vertical: can be discovered in the Shorts feed and may suit mobile-first discovery.
- Dual format: YouTube documents workflows that can offer horizontal and vertical streams through the Live Control Room. Availability depends on the supported workflow and account controls shown there.
For a radio-style listening experience, choose the presentation that makes the artwork, title, and listening context clear on the devices your intended audience uses. YouTube’s platform-wide figure that over 30% of daily logged-in viewers watched live content in Q2 2025 is not an estimate of Telugu devotional music demand or of the audience this channel will attract; the statistic is from YouTube for Artists.
4. Configure an encoder and connect it to YouTube
- In YouTube Studio, go to Create > Go live and open the Live Control Room. Create or schedule the broadcast, set its title and visibility, then copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that event.
- In the encoder you choose, enter YouTube’s stream URL and the stream key. Keep the key private: anyone who gets it may be able to broadcast to your channel. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before continuing.
- Set the encoder to send the program audio and chosen visual. Select a resolution and frame rate appropriate to your artwork and available upload connection; a mostly static radio visual usually does not need the same motion detail as a video program. Use the encoder’s YouTube-compatible settings and check its output against the current specifications linked from YouTube’s live encoder settings.
- Start the encoder and confirm in the Live Control Room that YouTube receives a healthy signal. Check that the intended audio is audible, the visual is present, and the correct event is selected before making the stream public.
Exact control names vary by encoder, and YouTube’s official guidance does not require a particular product or dedicated hardware box. Do not assume that a single encoder configuration suits every connection or resolution; use the current YouTube-compatible settings and the instructions for your chosen encoder.

5. Test, monitor, and plan for stream continuity
Run a private or unlisted test before launch, especially if you have invested in a more involved broadcast setup. Listen for silence, clipping, abrupt transitions, and incorrect track order; verify the artwork and metadata; and confirm that the stream remains connected. YouTube for Artists recommends testing high-investment broadcasts. Keep a local recording or other archive backup if you need a copy outside YouTube.
Choose between one long broadcast and shorter blocks
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If a YouTube archive matters, schedule broadcasts in blocks shorter than 12 hours and make a controlled handoff or restart plan. That block strategy is an operational response to YouTube’s archive guidance, not a YouTube guarantee of gap-free continuity or a prescribed restart method. A single long-running broadcast may better match the idea of an uninterrupted radio channel, but it carries the documented archive risk once it passes 12 hours. Neither approach removes the need to monitor the feed or keep a local backup when preserving the program matters.
Troubleshoot common failures
- Live streaming is unavailable: verify the channel, check for a restriction in the preceding 90 days, and allow up to 24 hours after first enabling live streaming.
- The encoder cannot connect: confirm that you are using the stream URL and key for the intended event, check that the key has not been changed, and verify the encoder’s current YouTube-compatible output settings.
- The feed is interrupted or replaced: check YouTube Studio alerts and Content ID notices. Stop using disputed material and contact the rights administrator about permission and channel allowlisting before restarting with it.
- The broadcast has no usable archive: check whether it exceeded 12 hours. YouTube warns that longer streams may not be captured; use a local recording and shorter broadcast blocks if platform archives are important.
6. Treat monetization as conditional
Do not assume that a continuous instrumental loop qualifies for monetization. YouTube’s policy requires original and authentic content and identifies repetitive or mass-produced material as “inauthentic content.” The policy applies to live streams as well as other video formats, and reviewers may consider the channel theme, its most-viewed and newest uploads, watch-time distribution, metadata, and About section. If monetization is a goal, make the channel’s own creative contribution apparent: original performances or arrangements, meaningful programming choices, varied playlists, useful context, and clear authorship information can help communicate distinct value.
