It can give viewers a continuous place to watch, but there is no reliable evidence that running prerecorded videos as a 24/7 YouTube livestream, by itself, grows a channel. Treat it as a format to test—not a shortcut to subscribers or recommendations. Whether it works depends on viewer demand, the originality and usefulness of the programming, and what your channel’s own analytics show.
What a 24/7 prerecorded stream can—and cannot—do
YouTube supports live streams created with an encoder and lets creators schedule streams and manage their settings. A continuous stream can suit content people may want to leave on, such as a curated gaming showcase, a themed archive, or a channel programming block. That describes a possible viewing experience, not a platform-backed growth advantage.
YouTube’s official guidance explains stream setup and discovery features, but does not claim that continuous streaming boosts channel growth or recommendations. The material available also does not provide a controlled comparison of 24/7 prerecorded streams against ordinary uploads. Whether the format attracts viewers, keeps them watching, and brings them back is something to assess with your own channel data.
Decide whether the format fits your channel
Before putting a channel on a continuous loop, consider what a viewer gets from watching the stream rather than choosing one of your individual uploads.

- Viewer intent: Is this programming useful or enjoyable as a continuous experience, or would viewers rather select a specific video?
- Originality and variety: Can you sustain programming that reflects your own creative work and avoids becoming generic or repetitive?
- Community fit: Would scheduled viewing, notifications, and live chat suit your audience?
- Workload: Can you prepare the programming and monitor its performance without sacrificing the quality of your regular uploads?
- Evidence of success: What audience outcome would make the experiment worthwhile—such as returning viewers, watch time, or subscribers—and how will you compare it with your usual publishing?
These are decision criteria, not a claim that livestreaming or regular uploads will win for every channel. YouTube does not publish a recommended duration that establishes how long a stream should run.
Make originality and policy compliance part of the plan
Being live does not exempt a stream from YouTube’s monetization policies. YouTube says monetized content should be original and authentic rather than generic, repetitive, or mass-produced. Its review considers the channel as a whole, including its main theme, most-viewed and newest videos, share of watch time, metadata, and About section. A repetitive loop deserves careful consideration, but the policy does not say that every loop is automatically disallowed.
Reused content is a separate issue from copyright. YouTube describes reused material as content taken from YouTube or another online source without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. Its examples of potentially qualifying transformation include critical review, explanation, commentary, and edits that add a storyline. Permission to use material—or using material you believe is copyright-safe—does not by itself establish that it meets the reused-content standard. Copyright and other policies still apply.

In July 2025, YouTube said it had renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” to clarify that the longstanding policy covers mass-produced or repetitive content. Sarah of TeamYouTube wrote, “These guidelines apply regardless of how the content was made.” The same clarification says reused content can continue to monetize when it adds significant original commentary, modification, or educational or entertainment value. That is a policy distinction, not a blanket approval of continuous streams.

For a gaming channel, build the stream around material you have the rights to use and a clear reason for viewers to watch. Consider whether the programming adds original curation, commentary, context, or meaningful variation rather than simply replaying a large set of videos. Review your channel as a whole, not just the stream in isolation.
Use scheduling as a discovery feature, not a growth promise
YouTube lets creators schedule streams, edit metadata, and reuse settings from an earlier stream. A scheduled stream may appear as upcoming in subscribers’ feeds, where viewers can choose “Notify me”; YouTube also describes notifications for scheduled streams starting within the next 24 hours. These features can help interested viewers find a planned stream, but they do not guarantee that new people will discover it.

Do not treat tags as a major growth lever. YouTube says tags play a minimal role in discovery except when a title or topic is commonly misspelled. Give the stream an accurate title and metadata that help viewers understand what is on, rather than relying on tags to compensate for unclear programming.
Test the stream against your channel’s normal uploads
Make the experiment specific enough that you can decide what to do next. YouTube’s guidance does not establish that 24/7 streaming outperforms ordinary uploads, so use your audience’s response as the evidence.
- Choose an outcome before starting. Decide whether you are testing for returning viewers, watch time, subscribers, or another audience result that matters to your channel.
- Set a review period and comparison. Compare the stream’s relevant Analytics with your ordinary uploads over a meaningful period. Account for differences in topic and audience interest rather than assuming the formats are directly interchangeable.
- Watch for quality as well as volume. A large amount of viewing is not by itself proof that the stream is building a returning audience or serving the channel’s goals.
- Adjust or stop if the experience does not work. Use the results to refine the programming, return to your usual upload approach, or run a better-defined test.
This is a practical testing method, not a YouTube rule or a guarantee that Analytics will establish causation.

Understand monetization separately from growth
Eligible creators may have access to live-stream revenue features including ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships. YouTube also describes Shopping and YouTube Premium revenue among broader earning options. Eligibility varies by feature; a channel should not assume every option is available.
YouTube says pre-roll and display ads are automatically turned on when monetization is enabled for a live stream, while mid-roll ads may be automatic or manual. As YouTube puts it, “Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve.” Watch Page ad and YouTube Premium revenue for livestream videos requires participation in the YouTube Partner Program and acceptance of the Watch Page Monetization Module. There is no basis here for estimating what a particular channel would earn.
YouTube reported that creators who chose automatic live mid-roll ads saw, on average, over 20% uplift in instream ad revenue per hour compared with channels without that setting. YouTube said the comparison covered 207 countries in January 2024. This is a reported comparison about ad revenue per hour—not subscriber growth, watch time, a causal estimate, or a result specific to 24/7 prerecorded streams.
