You can turn a back catalog into a continuous YouTube Live broadcast by having an encoder play local video files or a playlist and send the output to a stream created in YouTube Studio. In OBS, use a looping Media Source for one video or a VLC Video source for a playlist. The encoder, media, power and internet connection must stay available, so uninterrupted streaming is an operating goal to plan and monitor—not a YouTube guarantee.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has had no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Enabling a first live stream can take up to 24 hours. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- An encoder: software or hardware that converts video into a digital format and sends it to YouTube. This guide uses OBS, which can play local files while it streams.
- Video files you have the right to stream, plus a computer with enough storage, stable power and a dependable upload connection.
- A stream created in YouTube Studio, along with its stream URL and key. Treat the key like a password: do not share it or show it in screenshots.
Audit your catalog’s rights first
Check every video and every element inside it—including music, images and other third-party material. Having a copy of a video, or having uploaded it before, does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it live. Keep records of licenses and permissions. If a rights holder licensed material in your catalog, ask whether they need to add your channel to their Content ID allowlist for live streaming.
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can trigger a warning or placeholder image; if the material remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Set up a single video or playlist in OBS
Loop one video with Media Source
- Open OBS and add a Media Source to the scene you plan to stream.
- Select the local video file and enable Loop in the source properties. OBS defines this control as replaying the file after playback completes.
- Check that the video and audio play as expected, then confirm the source returns to the beginning when it ends.
Loop a catalog playlist with VLC Video
- Install VLC if it is not already installed. OBS’s VLC Video source depends on VLC; it may not appear as an available source otherwise.
- In OBS, add a VLC Video source and load the local files as a playlist in the order you want them to play.
- Enable Loop Playlist so the playlist restarts when it reaches the end. Test the order, audio, transitions and restart behavior.
OBS documents common formats including MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM, as well as common audio formats. Keep the file locations stable after setup: moving or renaming a source file can break playback. See the OBS Project Media Sources documentation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- After confirming eligibility, open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the event into OBS’s streaming settings. Do not publish the key; anyone who has it may be able to send a broadcast to your channel.
- Start the OBS stream output and check the YouTube preview for both picture and sound before making the event public.
- Run a private or unlisted end-to-end test. Verify that the source loops, audio stays in sync, and you know how to recover after an encoder restart or connection interruption.
- When the test is clean, set the event public. Use a clear title and description that explain the programming rotation and that videos repeat.
Plan for reliability, monitoring and replay
A 24/7 broadcast depends on more than the loop setting: the host computer, source files, encoder, power, network connection and YouTube ingest all need to keep working. Before leaving a stream running, check upload stability, free storage, computer temperature and power settings. Keep an eye on stream health in Live Control Room and decide how you will respond to outages, rights warnings and planned maintenance.
Do not assume a long stream will become one complete replay. YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; it does not promise that a longer continuous session will be archived as one replay. Plan session boundaries or a separate archive workflow, and confirm the current Studio controls for your setup.

Choose a way to keep the stream running
For the managed cloud option, StreamNeo is designed to keep an uploaded-video YouTube stream running without leaving a computer on at home: any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps streams at one flat price per slot, and the first day is free. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
| Route | What it does | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Loops uploaded videos or playlists from the cloud to YouTube. | No home computer or connection needs to stay on; consider its storage per slot and billing period. |
| OBS on a local computer | Plays local files and sends the encoded output; it supports single-file and playlist looping. | You manage the host computer, media storage, power, internet stability and recovery. |
| Standalone hardware encoder | A dedicated device sends a stream to YouTube. | Check supported inputs and formats, YouTube workflow, monitoring and recovery controls, and purchase cost; no particular model is validated here. |
| Other cloud encoder or studio | A cloud service may be able to send a broadcast without a local encoder running. | Verify support for uploaded catalogs, continuous scheduling, playlists, storage, outage handling, archives, pricing and account security with the service. These capabilities vary and are not established for every service. |
YouTube lists standalone hardware encoders and a cloud studio option among encoder choices. That listing alone does not establish a particular service’s features or guarantee uninterrupted operation. For any route, arrange monitoring and recovery rather than treating it as “set and forget.”

Copyright permission and monetization are separate
Permission to stream material does not guarantee that a channel or a repetitive broadcast will qualify for monetization. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams and require original, authentic content. Its July 15, 2025 clarification renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and says repetitive or mass-produced content can be ineligible. The separate reused-content policy addresses material repurposed without significant original commentary, substantive modification or educational or entertainment value. A back-catalog loop alone does not ensure YouTube Partner Program acceptance or continued monetization.
Eligible YouTube Partner Program creators may have live-stream earning options. Watch Page ads and YouTube Premium revenue on live streams require the Watch Page Monetization Module; eligibility and earnings depend on the account and applicable policies. See YouTube’s channel monetization policies and YouTube Partner Program overview and eligibility.
