To add both a countdown and a schedule, set up two separate things: schedule an event in YouTube Studio so viewers can find its watch page and set reminders, then add the countdown graphic to the video your encoder sends. Scheduling alone does not put a timer on screen. For a continuous lofi stream, decide whether you need one uninterrupted broadcast or separate scheduled events; that choice affects how you handle transitions and archives.
What YouTube scheduling does—and what it does not do
In YouTube Studio, scheduling creates an upcoming stream page that you can share and that lets viewers get reminders. YouTube describes the purpose this way: “Scheduling a stream lets you promote your stream. Viewers can get reminders on upcoming streams, you can share the URL on social media, and more.” See YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
The scheduled page and the outgoing video are separate. The encoder sends the live audio and picture to YouTube using a Live server URL and stream key; the countdown must be part of that picture. Add it as an encoder overlay or include it in a pre-rendered video source. YouTube’s scheduling feature does not automatically place a countdown over the lofi stream.
Choose how the countdown will appear
Use an encoder overlay
Choose this if your existing encoder can compose graphics over the lofi video. Add the timer and schedule text to the scene that is sent to YouTube, and arrange a transition to the regular radio scene when the countdown ends. The overlay’s design, timing, and switching are your production choices; YouTube’s documentation does not certify a particular widget or overlay tool.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Render it into the video
If your encoder cannot add graphics, make a countdown clip or render the countdown and schedule into the video before streaming it. Arrange the source so it switches to the normal lofi loop at the intended start time. A rendered timer will not update itself unless the source you send already contains the changing countdown.
Schedule a YouTube event and connect the encoder
- Create the event: In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule Stream. Create a new stream or reuse settings, then set the event details and schedule. Labels can change, so follow the current Live Control Room interface.
- Copy the connection details: In the event or Live Control Room, get the YouTube Live server URL and stream key. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a stream to your channel.
- Configure the encoder: Select YouTube as the destination if the encoder offers it. Otherwise, paste the server URL into its server field and the key into its stream-key field.
- Add the countdown: Put the timer and schedule in the encoder composition or in the pre-rendered source. Set up the transition from the countdown to the lofi program if the timer is only for the opening.
- Check before starting: Confirm the scheduled watch page in Studio, then inspect the encoder preview to verify that the timer is visible, legible, and timed as intended. YouTube recommends waiting for the preview before going live with a scheduled encoder stream.
- Start the stream: Follow the Live Control Room prompt to start the scheduled stream. Confirm that the outgoing picture and audio are correct on the watch page.

Plan a recurring schedule or an event within a 24/7 feed
Decide what “schedule” means for your channel. A single scheduled event page is useful for promoting an upcoming start. A recurring timetable displayed over the radio is different: that text and any timed scene changes must be included in the video production. Neither the watch page nor the reminder feature changes the outgoing image by itself.
Separate scheduled broadcasts
For a calendar of distinct broadcasts, Google’s Live Streaming API model allows multiple broadcast resources to use the same stream resource and streaming settings. In the documented pattern, only one broadcast is live at a time. This is an API-level setup, not a guarantee that YouTube Studio will automatically create the transitions or countdown graphics you want.

A special event during a continuous feed
The API documentation also describes a pattern in which a continuous broadcast remains live on a stream while a second broadcast is made live against that same stream for an event; completing the second broadcast does not stop the continuous feed. This is an advanced API approach, not a standard Studio button for adding an overlay. Consult Google’s documentation before building around it: YouTube Live Streaming API: Understanding broadcasts and streams and the LiveBroadcasts API reference.
The API reference says that when snippet.scheduledEndTime is omitted, the broadcast is treated as continuing indefinitely. It also exposes auto-start and auto-stop settings. These are API behaviors, not a substitute for checking your particular Studio workflow or the encoder’s connection.

Account for 24/7 continuity and archives
A continuous feed and a sequence of shorter events have different replay implications. YouTube Help says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” Do not assume that one uninterrupted stream longer than 12 hours will be available as a single automatic replay. If preserving replays matters, plan a deliberate shorter-event or archive workflow and verify its behavior in the current Studio interface. | Approach | Best fit | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Local encoder with an overlay | You already run the lofi feed on a computer or hardware encoder and want direct control of timer placement and appearance. | The originating setup must remain connected and working. You are responsible for the graphic, its timing, and any scene or clip changes. |
| StreamNeo cloud streaming | You want an uploaded-video YouTube feed to keep running without relying on a computer at home. | StreamNeo loops uploaded videos and playlists on YouTube. Its documented features do not establish that it creates countdown overlays or scheduled event transitions, so prepare and verify the countdown in your video workflow. Learn more at StreamNeo. |
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload your recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer does not have to stay on at home. Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; StreamNeo can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams of uploaded video, not camera broadcasts.

Troubleshoot the common setup problems
- The watch page exists, but viewers cannot see a countdown: Scheduling made the event page; it did not add pixels to the stream. Add the graphic to the encoder output or render it into the source video.
- The encoder will not connect: Check that the server URL and stream key came from the correct YouTube event, that each is in the right encoder field, and that the key has not been changed. Never share the key publicly.
- The countdown is frozen or starts at the wrong time: Check the timer’s start time and the source’s playback or scene-switch timing. A static rendered image cannot count down dynamically; use a changing source or an encoder composition that updates.
- The preview does not show the planned graphic: Verify that the encoder is sending the scene or clip containing it, then check text placement and legibility in the preview before going live.
- The stream ends but there is no full-length replay: YouTube’s automatic archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours, not a guaranteed archive for a longer uninterrupted broadcast. Use and verify a replay plan suited to the duration.
