Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If your YouTube music stream starts in sync but the mismatch grows over time, a fixed audio-delay setting is unlikely to solve the cause. Check for inconsistent audio-device sample rates, buffering or timestamp problems, and system load. First establish whether the drift is already present in a local recording or appears only in YouTube playback; a stream that merely reaches viewers late may have a latency or buffering issue instead.
First distinguish accumulating drift from a fixed delay
Compare the same audio and video events near the start of a stream and again after the problem appears. Make a short local recording at both points if possible. Note whether the audio is displaced by roughly the same amount, moves progressively farther out of sync, slips intermittently, or seems wrong only to some viewers.
- Fixed offset: The mismatch stays about the same. A sync-offset adjustment may help once you have identified where it is introduced.
- Accumulating drift: The mismatch grows as the stream runs. Investigate source clocks, sample rates, buffering, timestamps, and load before changing an offset.
- Intermittent or viewer-specific trouble: Compare local recordings, stream health, and playback on more than one connection before concluding that the audio and video signals themselves are drifting.
OBS community guidance distinguishes a stable offset from an error that accumulates over time; use that distinction as a diagnostic clue, not as a diagnosis of your particular setup: OBS community discussion of worsening audio sync.
Check the audio signal path and sample rates
In an OBS setup, audio and video can take different paths: video is passed with timestamps, while audio sources enter buffers and may be resampled or remixed when their sample rate or channel count differs from the backend. With multiple devices or sources, verify the entire chain rather than assuming the first audio setting controls everything. OBS’s backend overview describes these mechanisms: OBS Studio Backend Design.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Match active device rates to OBS
- Check the sample rate configured in OBS and the operating system’s settings for each active audio device.
- For a diagnostic baseline, make active devices and OBS use a consistent supported rate. YouTube’s live-streaming health documentation lists 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz among recommended audio sample rates.
- Record and review again after changing one relevant setting. If the drift remains, do not assume that matching rates alone fixes a source-clock, timestamp, or buffering problem.
OBS’s analyzer says a device operating at a different sample rate from other devices can result in drift over time or distortion. It also describes maximum audio buffering as a possible sign of very high system load or incorrect device timestamps. Those are warning signs to investigate, not proof that your stream has any particular fault: OBS Log Analyzer.
Look for buffering and load warnings
Review the OBS log or analyzer output for sample-rate mismatches, maximum audio buffering, incorrect device timestamps, and signs of high CPU or GPU load. Check whether the warning names one source or appears across the setup. Avoid repeatedly increasing an audio delay to chase a mismatch that keeps moving; that can hide a symptom temporarily without addressing the underlying timing behavior.

Use local recordings, OBS stats, and YouTube health to locate the fault
- Compare recordings: Review the start and later local recordings against the same identifiable events. If the mismatch is already in the local recording, focus on the source and encoder path. If local recordings remain in sync but YouTube playback does not, inspect delivery and ingest health as well.
- Inspect OBS stats and logs: Check for audio buffering or timestamp warnings and dropped frames. OBS describes dropped frames as a connection-stability or bitrate-capacity problem; it also cautions that viewers can experience buffering without dropped frames. See OBS Stream Connection Troubleshooting.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room: Review the stream-health indicator and any error messages, including their timestamps. YouTube lists ingest problems such as unsupported formats, incorrect audio settings or sample rate, keyframe issues, and video starvation in its live streaming error-message guidance.
- Change one variable at a time: Adjust a relevant device rate, source, buffer-related setting, or connection issue, then record and compare again. This makes it easier to tell whether the change affected the problem.
Do not mistake stream latency for audio drift
Latency is the delay between capture and display. YouTube says the player’s read-ahead buffer is a main source of stream latency; reducing that buffer can make viewers more vulnerable to buffering. Network congestion can also delay playback even when average bandwidth seems adequate. These conditions can make a stream appear late, but they do not by themselves show that audio is progressively slipping relative to video within the stream.
YouTube explains the buffer and latency trade-off in Understand live streaming latency. Compare the relationship between audio and video inside a recording separately from how late the player starts or how smoothly it plays.

HLS delivery is not a clock-drift fix
YouTube documents that HLS has higher delivery latency than continuous RTMP because it sends video in segments. HLS segment-duration settings affect delivery latency; they are not a remedy for mismatched device clocks or incorrect timestamps. Use the settings appropriate to your selected ingest mode rather than applying HLS advice to every stream. See YouTube’s HLS setup guidance.
Check the ingest configuration without changing unrelated settings
For ordinary YouTube ingest, YouTube’s error guidance identifies H.264 video and AAC audio and reports audio-setting, sample-rate, channel, keyframe-frequency, and other stream-health errors. The HLS documentation has its own codec and configuration guidance. Follow the current instructions for the ingest mode you actually selected and any specific health message shown in Live Control Room; do not treat one protocol’s settings as universal.

Common symptoms and what to check
| Symptom | Check first |
|---|---|
| The mismatch is steady from the beginning | Compare local recording and playback, then identify where a fixed offset enters before adjusting sync. |
| The mismatch grows over time | Check sample-rate consistency across active devices, OBS buffering and timestamp warnings, and system load. |
| Local recording is in sync, but YouTube playback seems late or uneven | Check YouTube stream health, network stability, and player buffering or latency before treating it as source drift. |
| OBS reports dropped frames | Investigate connection stability and whether the connection can sustain the configured bitrate. |
| Only one source appears affected | Inspect that source’s device rate, timestamps, and path into OBS rather than changing every source at once. |
Keep a long-running stream dependable without confusing uptime with sync
A computer or encoder staying online does not, by itself, synchronize independent audio clocks or correct timestamps. If you use a local OBS setup, diagnose and resolve the signal timing issue on that path. If your separate need is to keep uploaded music videos playing on YouTube without leaving a computer on at home, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos; it does not stream from a camera.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers, and includes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. This can simplify the job of keeping a playlist running, but it does not diagnose or fix audio drift already present in your source recording.
