Creators switch Super Chat on in YouTube Studio; viewers choose a payment method during checkout. UPI is listed among Google Play payment methods in India, but official help does not guarantee it will appear for every one-time Super Chat purchase. Check the options shown in your own checkout before confirming.
Creator setup: turn on Super Chat
This step enables the feature on your channel; it does not add a payment method for viewers.
- On a computer, sign in to YouTube Studio and open Earn > Supers.
- If the Supers tab is available, choose Get started and follow the setup instructions. On first use, YouTube may ask you to accept the Commerce Product Module (CPM).
- After setup, switch Super Chat on.
YouTube also documents the Earn > Supers path in Studio’s mobile instructions. The tab appears only for eligible channels. YouTube’s eligibility overview says creators must meet the applicable feature requirements, be at least 18, live where the feature is available, and accept the CPM or the formerly available Commerce Product Addendum. Check your channel’s current Earn tab and eligibility status because requirements can change. India appears on YouTube’s viewer availability list. Viewer checkout: choose a payment method
- Open a live stream or Premiere that has live chat, then select the dollar-sign purchase control.
- Select Super Chat, choose an amount and, if you want, enter a message.
- Continue through checkout. Review the payment method displayed before confirming the purchase.
- If you are buying in the YouTube Android app and the transaction is billed through Google Play, review or add an available payment method on the Google account used for Google Play.
Google Play’s India help lists UPI among its payment methods and specifically says it can be used for subscriptions. YouTube says some new Super Chat purchases made in the Android app are billed through Google Play. Those statements do not establish that UPI is available for every one-time Super Chat transaction. The available methods can depend on the checkout route and account, so rely on the options shown at your checkout—not on an assumption that UPI will appear. If UPI does not appear
- Check the payment methods shown in that specific Super Chat checkout.
- Confirm that the intended Google account and its payment profile are in use, and review the payment methods available to that account in Google Play if the purchase is billed there.
- Follow Google Play’s current payment-method or payment-issue help if you need to troubleshoot the account’s payment options.
The official pages cited here do not provide a Super Chat-specific fix for missing UPI. Adding a UPI ID in YouTube Studio or changing creator-side Super Chat settings does not add a viewer payment method; do not use someone else’s payment credentials to work around the issue.
Creator settings and viewer payment details are separate
If you are a creator asking “Where do I add UPI details for YouTube Super Chat?”, there is no creator-side UPI field: enable Super Chat through Earn > Supers if the channel is eligible. If you are a viewer asking “Can I use UPI for Super Chat in India?”, look at the payment choices in your checkout. UPI’s presence in Google Play’s India payment-method list does not guarantee it will be offered for your particular one-time Super Chat purchase.
