It is a publishing and community tool—not a shortcut to recommendations: YouTube does not promise that continuous streaming will improve rankings or convert stream viewers into viewers of a later upload. Build the stream around the same audience as the upcoming video, make the launch easy to notice, and measure what happens rather than assuming it worked.
Start with a stream concept that fits the video you plan to launch
The stream should give the right viewers a reason to visit and return, and it should make sense beside the upcoming video. For a gaming channel, that might be a continuous feed of gameplay, a themed game soundtrack you have rights to use, or a community-oriented channel tied to the game or subject of the launch. These are editorial options, not YouTube growth guarantees.
A stream unrelated to the new video may draw an audience with different interests. Before you start, decide what you want the stream to accomplish—such as repeat live attendance, relevant subscribers, or attendance at a video Premiere—and how you will judge that goal after launch.
Choose a live format around discovery and launch features

Prepare the channel and test the broadcast
Check eligibility and choose a supported method
YouTube supports live streaming by mobile, webcam, encoder, and console. A channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s eligibility and setup guide has the current steps and feature details.
Test the picture and sound before relying on a continuous stream
Run a private test and check that the framing, audio capture, and lighting are suitable for a long viewing session. YouTube’s Live Streaming Guide covers those preparation factors; it does not establish that premium equipment is necessary or that buying gear will grow an audience.

Plan for monitoring and interruptions
A long-running broadcast still needs an operational plan: decide who will check it and what you will do if it drops. The official setup material does not provide a 24/7 uptime design or reliability benchmark. Do not treat a successful test as proof that a stream will stay live indefinitely.
Clear music and other rights before streaming
Do not assume that music is safe to loop because it is being used in a live stream. YouTube for Artists advises music channels to coordinate with a label or distributor when using copyright-protected music; see its guidance on going live. Make sure you have the rights needed for the material you broadcast.

Make the upcoming video visible before launch
- Set up the launch destination first. If you plan to use a Premiere, create and configure it before the redirect. Confirm that your chosen stream format supports the feature.
- Give viewers a clear reason to stay. Mention the upcoming video in the stream and use relevant chat or channel surfaces to point people toward it. Make the subject and launch timing clear; do not rely on viewers discovering the connection themselves.
- Use Live Redirect only if the channel is eligible. YouTube requires the sender to have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. Configure the redirect in YouTube Studio and tell viewers to wait briefly for the transition. YouTube says that when the live stream ends, autoplay moves viewers to the selected Premiere or live stream. See How to use YouTube Live Redirect.
- Keep a fallback path. If you are not eligible for Live Redirect, or your format does not support it, tell viewers where and when the video will appear and use the channel surfaces available to you. Do not promise an automatic handoff.
Measure whether the stream contributed to the launch
Use YouTube’s own live and channel analytics to assess your stated goal. In Live Control Room, YouTube reports stream health and real-time measures such as concurrent viewers, peak concurrent viewers, chat rate, views, and average view duration. Post-stream measures include views, new subscribers, total watch time, peak concurrent viewers, duration, and average view duration. Studio also provides video- and channel-level live measures including audience retention and hours streamed; some vertical-only details appear after 24 hours. Compare a baseline period with the stream period and the launch period. Look for relevant changes in new subscribers, watch time, returning engagement, retention, traffic sources, and Premiere attendance where available. Record other promotion or publishing changes too: a coincident increase does not prove the stream caused it. YouTube’s Analytics guide describes channel and video analytics and Advanced Mode.

What the platform-wide numbers can—and cannot—tell you
In a YouTube announcement dated September 16, 2025, Aaron Filner, Senior Director of Product Management, wrote: “On average, over 30% of daily logged-in YouTube viewers watched live content in Q2 2025 alone.” That is a platform-wide statistic for that quarter, not a forecast for a new channel or a 24/7 stream. The announcement is at YouTube’s Live updates page.
YouTube’s Premiere announcement reported that daily Premieres grew by over 85% since March 1, 2020, and that more than 80% of over 8 million channels using Premieres had not used them before. Those are historical figures from that announcement, not current adoption rates or evidence that Premieres cause growth: YouTube’s Premiere announcement.
