Possibly, but there’s no evidence that 24/7 YouTube streams specifically get a reliable weekend boost. A large observational study of YouTube Live found a slight Sunday advantage overall, with Sunday afternoon and early evening standing out. Treat that as a reason to check your own channel’s data—not as a promise that running continuously will bring more viewers on weekends.
What the study found—and what it did not
The YTLive study analyzed 507,290 records from 12,156 YouTube Live streams, collected in May and June 2024. Concurrent viewers were sampled every five minutes. The authors reported higher and more stable viewership on weekends, especially in afternoon hours, but their detailed day-level results are more restrained: median viewership did not strongly depend on the day, with only a slight increase in the median and quartiles on Sundays.
In the study’s hour-by-day analysis, Sunday from 11:00 to 19:00 was a higher-viewership period in the sample, peaking at 18:00. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday also had strong afternoon periods. These are observed patterns in that dataset, not a universal schedule or a prediction for an individual channel.
The researchers also found a weekend advantage across their short-, medium- and long-duration groups. But “long” does not mean 24/7, and the study did not isolate streams that ran continuously throughout the collection period. It therefore cannot establish that continuous streams get more weekend viewers. Nor does it show that changing a stream’s schedule causes viewership to rise.

The study found that shorter streams generally attracted higher and more consistent viewership than longer ones; long streams were more variable. That makes raw accumulated views a poor way to judge whether a 24/7 stream is doing better on a weekend: a stream that runs for more hours simply has more time to collect views. The study does not provide a percentage increase that can be applied to a typical continuous stream.
How to check whether weekends help your channel
Use your own channel’s results as the deciding evidence. Compare equivalent hours and audience conditions rather than whole-day totals.

- Choose one consistent measure. Compare average concurrent viewers for a measure of typical live audience, and peak concurrent viewers separately for the highest moment. Do not substitute total views for concurrency when comparing a continuous stream.
- Match the hours and time zone. Compare the same hours in the time zone most relevant to your audience. A weekend afternoon in one region may fall at a different time for viewers elsewhere.
- Use several comparable weeks. One weekend can be atypical. Look for a recurring pattern across multiple weeks rather than treating a single spike as evidence.
- Keep the comparison fair. Note changes in content, promotion, holidays, outages, interruptions or raids. These can affect the numbers independently of the day of week.
- Record where the metric came from. YouTube Studio offers average and peak concurrent-viewer metrics at video and channel levels. YouTube says Analytics is processed and despammed, is based on Video ID, and measures differently from Live Control Room data. Keep Studio Analytics and real-time Live Control Room figures separate rather than mixing them into one comparison.
This comparison can tell you whether weekends appear stronger for your channel under similar conditions. It cannot by itself prove that YouTube recommends your stream more on weekends.
