For gaming creators, the stronger primary platform depends on the videos you can make consistently, the monetization programs you can qualify for in your country, and whether you want ad revenue, fan support, brand work, or paid content. YouTube has distinct routes to ad monetization for long-form videos and Shorts; TikTok’s Creator Rewards applies to qualifying original videos at least one minute long. The eligibility rules below are more useful for choosing than claims that one platform automatically gets more views or pays more.
Choose by the gaming content you can reliably produce
YouTube fits a mix of long-form and short-form formats
YouTube’s ad-revenue eligibility includes a long-form watch-hours route and a Shorts-views route. That gives creators a choice between building toward qualified public watch hours with videos such as reviews, walkthroughs, and guides, or qualifying through Shorts views. Shorts-feed watch hours do not count toward the long-form watch-hour threshold.
TikTok Creator Rewards has a one-minute minimum
Creator Rewards is relevant to gaming creators who can make original videos of at least one minute and meet the program’s account, audience, and regional requirements. Short clips that do not meet that duration are not eligible for rewards under this program, though TikTok has other creator features with separate rules.
Compare the monetization routes and their entry requirements
The table separates access to a feature from earning money through it. Meeting a threshold does not itself guarantee approval, a particular payout, or access to every feature.

YouTube’s expanded YPP and full ad tier are different thresholds, not two descriptions of the same payout. Similarly, TikTok Creator Rewards is not a general payment for every view. Both platforms require creators to meet program and policy rules; geography and feature availability matter.
Consider income beyond view-based payments
YouTube
In eligible countries, expanded YPP can make fan-funding and Shopping features available before the full ad-revenue threshold, subject to each feature’s own requirements. YouTube also has the separate Shorts revenue-sharing mechanism described above. A creator who wants to combine ads with audience support or shopping should check which features are available to their account and country.

TikTok
Alongside Creator Rewards, TikTok documents TikTok One for brand collaborations, Series for paid access to creator content, and LIVE features. Their requirements vary by feature, account, age, and region. TikTok describes TikTok One as a platform where creators, advertisers, and brands can collaborate; that describes the tool, not the likelihood of securing a campaign.
For gaming creators, brand partnerships, paid guides or other premium content, and audience support are distinct income sources. Do not assume that follower counts or view totals alone establish eligibility or predict what those routes will earn.

Check originality and rights before building a monetization plan
TikTok’s Creator Rewards rules exclude Duets, Stitches, copied content, and lightly altered reposts from its definition of original content. A gaming creator relying on edited clips should make sure the work is genuinely their own and fits the program’s requirements; adding minimal changes to someone else’s clip does not make it eligible under those rules.
YouTube applies reused- and repetitious-content rules as well as advertiser-friendly policies to monetized videos and Shorts. Passing a subscriber or view threshold does not settle whether a particular gameplay video, compilation, or commentary channel complies. Review the relevant platform policies for your format, and make sure you have the rights needed for the game footage, music, and other material you publish.

Use a practical decision rule for a gaming channel
- Inventory your repeatable formats. If your strongest work is detailed guides, reviews, walkthroughs, or longer commentary, assess YouTube’s long-form route. If you can reliably make original videos of at least one minute, TikTok Creator Rewards may also be relevant. If your best clips are shorter than a minute, do not count on Creator Rewards for those clips.
- Check what you can qualify for now. Compare your subscriber or follower count, recent uploads and views, watch hours, account standing, age, and country against the specific program rules. Treat feature access as uncertain until the platform confirms eligibility and approval.
- Decide which income source matters most. For YouTube, distinguish full ad monetization from earlier eligible fan-funding and Shopping access. For TikTok, assess Creator Rewards separately from TikTok One, Series, and LIVE. Choose based on the routes you can actually use, not a single headline view count.
- Choose a primary home, then test distribution elsewhere. Build the main channel where your preferred format and plausible monetization route fit best. Repackage suitable original work for the other platform only if the format and each platform’s originality and rights rules allow it. Track your own results rather than treating generic reach or earnings claims as comparable evidence.
What the available rules do—and do not—show about reach and earnings
The program requirements establish who may be eligible for particular features; they do not establish that one platform will produce more organic reach, higher typical earnings, better conversions, or greater creator satisfaction. TikTok describes personalized recommendations, but the platform-policy information available here does not provide comparable outcomes for TikTok and YouTube. Your audience, country, content, and execution can change the result, so there is no evidence-based universal winner.
