In YouTube Studio, go to Earn > Memberships > Get started, accept the Commerce Product Module (CPM) if prompted, then create levels and perks and submit them for review.
Check eligibility before you begin
YouTube memberships are available only to qualifying channels. Before looking for the setup button, check that:
- Your channel is in the YouTube Partner Program and eligible for fan-funding features.
- You are at least 18 years old and live in a country or region where memberships are available. Availability can change; consult YouTube’s current eligibility and location requirements.
- Your channel is not set as Made for Kids and does not have a significant number of Made for Kids or otherwise ineligible videos. YouTube identifies music-claimed videos as ineligible.
- You and, where applicable, your MCN accept and comply with the relevant terms and policies, including the Commerce Product Module.
YouTube’s membership eligibility guidance and monetization terms are the best places to confirm current requirements. A missing Memberships option may mean the channel has not qualified, rather than that the setting is hidden.
Turn on memberships in YouTube Studio
On desktop
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Select Earn from the left menu.
- Open Memberships and select Get started.
- Follow the setup prompts. On first use, review and accept the Commerce Product Module if YouTube asks you to.
YouTube displays the Memberships tab only when the channel is eligible. See its desktop setup instructions if the labels or flow differ in your Studio account.

In the YouTube Studio mobile app
- Open the YouTube Studio app and tap Earn.
- Tap the Memberships card and follow the prompts. On Android, if the card is not immediately shown, YouTube’s instructions say to tap Get started in the Memberships section.
- Accept the Commerce Product Module if prompted during first-time setup.
Use YouTube’s mobile activation instructions for the current app flow. After YPP acceptance, activation may take up to two days while YouTube checks membership eligibility; that is an estimate from YouTube, not a guaranteed completion time.
Create membership levels and perks
- In desktop YouTube Studio, go to Earn > Memberships.
- In the level-and-perk setup box, choose Edit and follow the prompts to add levels and benefits.
- Review how benefits stack across levels, then select Publish to submit the offer for YouTube review.
YouTube allows up to six levels, with one to five perks in each level. Higher-priced levels include the perks from lower-priced levels, so make the progression clear and ensure you can reliably deliver everything promised. YouTube reviews levels and perks before they go live; its Help page estimates that review takes about a day. See YouTube’s levels and perks guidance.

Choose perks you can sustain
Possible digital perks listed by YouTube include badges, posts, custom emoji, members-first videos, live chat, members-only live streams, member milestone chats, a recognition shelf, Shorts and videos. Select benefits that fit your audience and production capacity, not simply the maximum number the interface permits. The creator is responsible for delivering perks; YouTube says it does not take responsibility for them.
Plan higher tiers as a genuine upgrade: members at those levels also receive the lower-tier perks. YouTube suggests starting with one to three levels, weighing the value to members against the time and cost of fulfillment, and asking your community which benefits it values. Prices can vary by members’ country or region. You can adjust a level’s price for new members only once every 12 months from its last update; existing members keep the price at which they joined. Check perk and content rules before publishing
Do not promise a benefit until you have checked the current membership policies and can provide it consistently. YouTube lists these examples of prohibited perks:
- Downloads of content that is already available on YouTube.
- In-person one-to-one meetings.
- Benefits awarded randomly, such as competitions or sweepstakes.
- Perks targeted at or attractive to children.
Members-only videos must be fully original and cannot include copyright-claimed material, including claims from music partners. A video being available only to paying members does not remove copyright restrictions. Review YouTube’s perks and content rules before building a tier around a video, stream or other deliverable.

Plan the launch and monitor it
Make the offer understandable before asking viewers to join. YouTube recommends aligning perks with viewer motivations and your capacity, explaining memberships in an announcement video and an intro video, preparing some members-only content, and promoting membership links in public uploads. After launch, use YouTube Studio to see which levels attract and retain members, then adjust the offer within YouTube’s pricing and policy rules. These are platform recommendations, not guarantees of sign-ups or growth; see YouTube’s launch tips.
YouTube Help says, “On average, 20% of new members join because they saw a members-only content promotion on the YouTube Home, watch next, search or channel pages.” YouTube provides no study period or methodology alongside that figure, so treat it as platform-reported guidance, not a universal conversion rate. Its members-only video guidance explains the promotion context.

Fix common setup problems
Memberships is missing from Earn
- Confirm YPP and fan-funding eligibility, age and location requirements.
- Check that the channel is not set as Made for Kids and does not have a significant number of ineligible videos, including music-claimed videos.
- Check whether the Commerce Product Module and other required terms have been accepted.
- If YPP acceptance was recent, allow for YouTube’s eligibility review, which may take up to two days after acceptance according to its mobile setup guidance.
Levels or perks are not live yet
Publishing submits levels and perks for YouTube review. YouTube’s Help page estimates about a day; if they are still pending, check the current Studio status and policy guidance rather than promising members a launch time you cannot control.
A planned perk or members-only video may be ineligible
Recheck YouTube’s perk rules and confirm the content is original and unclaimed. Remove or replace a prohibited perk or claimed material before publishing; membership payment does not make otherwise restricted content eligible.
