Keep the information visible and easy to read, schedule the event in YouTube Studio if you want a shareable link and reminders, and test the complete loop before promoting it.
What to put in the promo loop
Build the store information into the video itself so viewers can see it throughout the stream, including when the main promotional footage changes. YouTube supports encoder streams and overlays, but it does not prescribe a graphics editor or a design for store details.
- Store name: Use the name customers will recognize.
- Opening hours: Show the current regular hours and make temporary or holiday changes clear.
- Location: Include the address or a concise location description if it helps customers find the store.
- Next step: Add a checked phone number or web address for more information, if useful.
Verify every detail with the store before exporting. YouTube does not validate the accuracy of your hours, address, phone number, or website.
Make the details readable at a glance
Give the hours and store name a persistent, high-contrast area in the composition. Keep promotional copy secondary, and avoid placing important text where it is obscured by other on-screen elements. Review the full loop, not just a still frame: check legibility during motion and confirm that the transition back to the beginning is not abrupt. These are production recommendations, not YouTube Studio requirements.

Choose the format before you go live
YouTube documents horizontal and vertical viewing formats. In its dual-format workflow, viewers in the Shorts feed see the vertical version while other viewers see the horizontal version. Check that the store name and hours are legible in both compositions, rather than assuming a graphic designed for one crop will work in the other. YouTube says the vertical format cannot be added after the stream has started, so decide and test the presentation beforehand. YouTube’s live-streaming overview describes the available methods and formats.
Set up the YouTube Live event and encoder
- Confirm channel eligibility. YouTube says live streaming requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Its guidance also says streamers must be at least 16 years old. Check the channel before planning a public event. See YouTube’s current live-streaming requirements.
- Schedule the event if you want to promote it in advance. In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live, open Manage, then choose Schedule stream. Create an event or reuse settings. Scheduling gives you an event URL to share and lets viewers set reminders. YouTube’s encoder instructions cover this workflow.
- Prepare the encoder. YouTube recognizes mobile, webcam, encoder, and console methods; its help describes encoders as a way to use overlays and audio/video hardware. Choose an encoder workflow that can play your prepared loop reliably and let you monitor and end the broadcast.
- Copy the connection details from YouTube Studio. If the encoder offers YouTube as a destination, select it and follow its connection flow. Otherwise, copy the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio into the encoder’s matching server and stream-key fields. Treat the stream key as a credential: do not include it in the video or share it publicly.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. For a scheduled stream, wait for the preview in Live Control Room. Confirm the video is playing, the store details are readable, and the loop restarts as intended; then click Go live.
- End the broadcast cleanly. When the promotion is over, click End Stream in Live Control Room and stop sending from the encoder. Follow the encoder-specific controls as needed.
Test the complete loop before promoting it
Google recommends testing the full streaming setup as a private stream, including the internet connection, camera framing, audio, and lighting. For a pre-recorded promo loop, also check the preview for readable business details, correct playback, and a clean restart. The camera-specific checks may not apply to a video-only loop, but the broader test helps catch setup problems before viewers arrive. Google’s live-streaming guide provides its checklist.

- Verify hours, spelling, address, phone number, and web address against current store information.
- Watch the loop through its transition and restart; look for a freeze, blank frame, or abrupt cut.
- Check the text in the actual stream preview and in every planned horizontal or vertical composition.
- Confirm that the scheduled event, encoder connection, and stream key are the ones intended for this broadcast.
Recurring store loops and YouTube’s broadcast model
For a recurring promotion, Google for Developers distinguishes a broadcast—the event or video viewers watch—from a stream, the audio-video transmission settings. A stream configuration can be reused for recurring broadcasts; separate streams can be useful when events need to run simultaneously. This distinction can help organize repeated events, but a store running one promo loop does not need to set up the YouTube Live Streaming API. Google’s explanation of broadcasts and streams gives the API context.
