Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →If an FFmpeg-to-YouTube stream freezes when the video changes, first find out whether FFmpeg stopped producing frames or YouTube stopped accepting a healthy stream. For a fixed playlist, keep one FFmpeg output session running and use the concat method that matches the files: the concat demuxer for compatible inputs, or a concat filter with normalization and re-encoding when they differ. Then check timestamps, output progress, and YouTube’s stream-health messages. Without the command, media details, and logs, there is no single confirmed cause.
Find which part of the stream has stopped
Check FFmpeg’s progress and logs at the moment of the transition, then compare them with YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health indicator. This separates a local input or sequencing stall from an ingest problem.
- FFmpeg’s frame count and output time stop advancing, or an error appears: investigate the input switch, decoding, stream compatibility, and timestamps.
- FFmpeg continues advancing and sending output: inspect YouTube’s health indicator and its reported format, bitrate, and audio issues.
YouTube’s API describes a stream as active when it is receiving data, and documents health states including good, ok, bad, and noData. Those values can help locate the failure layer; they do not by themselves explain why a particular file transition failed. See the YouTube Live Streams API documentation.
Use one FFmpeg output session for a fixed playlist
If you are switching among a known sequence of files, avoid stopping and relaunching the YouTube output for each file. Put the files in a concat list and use that list as a single FFmpeg input, with one output directed to YouTube.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Concat demuxer: suitable files without re-encoding
Create a text file such as playlist.ffconcat:
ffconcat version 1.0
file 'first.mp4'
file 'second.mp4'
The ffconcat version 1.0 line must be the exact first line for automatic format recognition. Quote or escape paths with spaces or special characters according to the concat script syntax. Point FFmpeg at this list as one input, rather than restarting the output between files. See the FFmpeg concat demuxer documentation.
The demuxer reads files sequentially and adjusts timestamps so each file follows the preceding one. It requires compatible streams, codecs, and time bases; it is not a general-purpose way to join arbitrary files. Check that the files expose matching streams and inspect their durations. If duration metadata is wrong, the next file’s timestamps may be shifted and cause artifacts or a bad transition. The concat list supports an explicit duration directive when a file’s reported duration is inaccurate.

Concat filter: normalize files that differ
If files differ in resolution, frame rate, pixel format, codec, audio layout, or whether audio is present, do not assume packet-level concatenation will work. Use a concat filter graph, normalize each input to a consistent video and audio format, and encode one stable output. For example, choose a common canvas and scale and pad each video to fit it, set a consistent frame rate and pixel format, and resample and map audio consistently. The exact filter settings depend on the source files and the output you intend to send.
FFmpeg’s FAQ recommends the concat filter when re-encoding is needed. The trade-off is straightforward: the demuxer can avoid re-encoding but has stricter input compatibility requirements; a filter graph allows normalization but uses encoding resources and requires choosing consistent output settings. See FFmpeg’s concat FAQ.

Check timestamps and keep the output consistent
A freeze that coincides with a file boundary can come from bad duration metadata or incompatible timestamps, not just from YouTube. Check the source durations and the FFmpeg log around the transition. With the concat demuxer, an incorrect duration can shift the timestamps of later files; use an explicit duration in the list if the metadata is inaccurate. Keep the output configuration steady across the sequence rather than changing codecs or ingest settings at each transition.
Verify YouTube ingest health and audio
Read the message and timestamp shown beside the Live Control Room health indicator. YouTube’s guidance identifies H.264 video and AAC audio as the expected formats for this configuration, and its live error messages cover issues such as mismatched video bitrate, unsupported or missing audio, and multiple audio streams. Correct the issue YouTube actually reports instead of changing codec or bitrate options blindly. See YouTube’s live streaming error messages and its live streaming encoder settings guidance.

| What you see | Likely area to inspect | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| FFmpeg progress stops exactly at the file boundary | Input sequencing, demuxing, decoding, or stream compatibility | Read the log at the transition; confirm the concat demuxer inputs have matching streams, codecs, and time bases, or normalize them with a filter graph. |
| FFmpeg continues progressing but YouTube reports unhealthy ingest | Output format, bitrate, or audio configuration | Use the specific Live Control Room health message to guide the correction; check H.264 video, AAC audio, and audio stream presence/count. |
| The picture or timing becomes wrong after a transition | Duration metadata or timestamp alignment | Check source durations and the concat list; add an explicit duration entry when metadata is inaccurate. |
| Only files with different properties fail to join cleanly | Concat demuxer compatibility limits | Normalize video and audio in a concat filter graph and encode a consistent output. |
| YouTube reports no data while FFmpeg appears to run | Whether FFmpeg is actually sending output to the configured ingest | Compare FFmpeg output progress and logs with YouTube’s stream status; verify the ingest configuration without exposing the stream key. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a 24/7 YouTube stream from uploaded videos, StreamNeo runs the playlist from the cloud so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube.
