You’ll need to prepare a playlist file, create a YouTube live event, configure FFmpeg using YouTube’s current encoder guidance, and test the complete setup before relying on it. A continuous 24-hour stream also needs supervision: FFmpeg alone is not a guarantee of recovery from every process or network failure.
What you need before starting
- A Windows computer that can remain on and connected for the duration of the stream. No minimum PC specification is established here; performance depends on the media and whether you re-encode.
- FFmpeg installed locally. Its current upstream documentation may differ from the version on your computer, so check your local build with
ffmpeg -versionandffmpeg -h full. - A stable folder containing the aarti files, plus a plain-text playlist file.
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled, and a live event’s ingest URL and stream key.
- Permission to stream each recording and any accompanying visual material. Devotional subject matter alone does not establish that a recording is cleared.
This workflow uses YouTube as the destination example. Its stream key identifies the stream and should be treated like a password. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and live stream settings explain where to obtain the required details.
Prepare compatible media and a concat playlist
Keep the files together
Put the recordings in a stable local folder, such as C:AartiStream, and avoid moving or renaming them after creating the playlist. The FFmpeg concat demuxer reads entries sequentially, but the inputs need compatible streams, codecs, and time bases. Different properties or inaccurate durations can cause gaps or artifacts at transitions. See the FFmpeg FAQ and full documentation.
Write the playlist file
Create a plain-text file such as C:AartiStreamplaylist.txt. Use one file directive per media file, with paths quoted. For example:

Choose demuxer or filter based on compatibility
The concat demuxer is useful when the files are already encoded compatibly and you want to avoid re-encoding. If inputs do not meet its compatibility requirements and conversion is appropriate, FFmpeg’s FAQ recommends the concat filter. A filter-based workflow may require re-encoding, which raises CPU load and calls for a fresh test of the resulting stream. Don’t assume files with different codecs, dimensions, frame rates, or stream layouts will join cleanly just because they appear in one playlist.

Create the YouTube live event and protect its key
- Enable live streaming on your channel if it is not already enabled.
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or schedule the event you intend to use.
- Copy the event’s current stream URL and stream key into your local encoder configuration. The exact interface can change; follow YouTube’s current encoder setup and stream settings pages.
- Keep the key out of public commands, screenshots, repositories, and shared scripts. Use a placeholder when documenting a command, then substitute the actual secret locally. If exposed, reset it in YouTube.
A stream key is not a viewer-facing link. It is a credential that allows an encoder to send video to your event.
Set FFmpeg output to match YouTube and your connection
Use YouTube’s current encoder settings table for the resolution and frame rate you actually choose. The table includes RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265, and AV1, up to 60 fps; YouTube recommends RTMPS for encryption, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval (not exceeding four seconds), and 128 kbps stereo audio. Its H.264 recommended bitrate ranges run from 3 Mbps at 480p30 to 17 Mbps at 1080p60, with different minimum and recommended rates for other codec, resolution, and frame-rate combinations. Those figures are YouTube configuration guidance, not a guarantee that a particular PC or connection can sustain them.

- Choose the table row that matches your output resolution, frame rate, and codec; do not copy a bitrate from an unrelated tutorial.
- Check available upload capacity and leave headroom rather than setting a stream to consume all measured upstream bandwidth.
- For an audio-led stream with a still image or restrained visual loop, select video settings to suit the assets and audience. There is no universal resolution or frame rate for every aarti playlist.
- Make sure the output includes an audio track. Confirm that the aarti is audible in YouTube’s preview and on a separate viewer device.
FFmpeg options apply to particular inputs or outputs, and looping syntax can vary by build. Consult ffmpeg -h full and the FFmpeg command-line documentation for your installed version. Place the looping option before the playlist’s -i so it applies to that input. A file-based live pipeline must be paced for real-time output; otherwise FFmpeg may read the playlist faster than the live destination can consume it. The documentation describes looping and real-time processing, but no complete Windows command has been validated for every build and playlist here. Test a short playlist before attempting a public all-day run rather than treating any one-line command as universal.
Test the stream, then monitor it
- Run a short private or unlisted test where available, using representative audio and motion from the intended stream.
- Check YouTube’s preview, stream-health messages, audio level, and video on a separate viewer device.
- Verify that transitions between playlist files are acceptable and that playback is paced continuously rather than racing through the files.
- Monitor quality while live. YouTube recommends testing before going live and checking the stream during operation in its encoder guidance and live-streaming tips.
- Plan how someone will notice and respond to a stopped FFmpeg process, a dropped connection, or a YouTube interruption. A watchdog or restart arrangement must be designed and tested separately; FFmpeg by itself does not guarantee recovery from every failure.
Rights and archive limits matter for a 24-hour stream
YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation on Google services, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other rights participants. A traditional composition and a particular modern performance or recording can have different rights status. Verify the exact recording, visual materials, and territories before streaming; this is not a legal determination about any specific song.

YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not count on a single continuous 24-hour stream being fully archived automatically. If you need a complete archive, check the platform’s current rules and plan separate local recording or shorter scheduled events, accounting for storage and rights.

- Playlist fails to open: Check that the playlist is plain text, each
fileline uses a valid path, and filenames have not changed. Quote paths containing spaces. - Gaps, artifacts, or failed transitions: Compare the input files’ stream layouts and encoding parameters. Use compatible inputs with the concat demuxer, or consider a concat-filter workflow with appropriate re-encoding.
- Stream ends or runs too quickly: Confirm that the looping option applies to the playlist input and that output is paced for real-time streaming. Check the syntax against your installed FFmpeg version.
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Recheck the event’s ingest URL, stream key, selected protocol, and encoder settings. If the key was exposed, reset it and update the local configuration.
- Buffering or unstable quality: Compare the chosen bitrate with sustainable upload capacity and the matching YouTube encoder table row. Retest with the actual media and monitor YouTube’s health indicators.
- No audible aarti: Confirm the media has an audio stream, that FFmpeg’s output includes it, and that it is audible in both preview and on a viewer device.
- FFmpeg stops after a failure: Investigate the process and connection, then restart according to a separately tested supervision plan. Do not assume the encoder will recover automatically.
