To loop a prerecorded gameplay video as a 4K 60fps YouTube Live stream, send it through an encoder or a cloud service that can repeat the file, then configure YouTube’s ingest settings and monitor the stream in Live Control Room. YouTube does not provide an automatic loop switch for an encoder feed: the repeat behavior must come from your playback setup or streaming service.

Choose how the recording will loop

The source is an existing gameplay recording, so the core requirement is a playback path that repeats the video and sends a live feed to YouTube. You can run that path on your own computer with compatible playback and encoding software, or use a cloud service built for continuous prerecorded streams. YouTube describes encoders as software or standalone hardware; its verified encoder directory also lists cloud services for this use.

  • Local encoder: Your computer plays the file repeatedly and encodes the live output. This gives you direct control, but the computer, playback process, encoder, and network connection must keep working.
  • Cloud service: The service handles playback and delivery remotely, avoiding the need to keep a home computer running. YouTube’s directory lists Gyre for 24/7 prerecorded streams, including 4K at 30 or 60 fps. Compare current features and limits directly before choosing any service.

StreamNeo is #1 for a managed YouTube loop: it runs continuously from the cloud, supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and gives you the first day free. See StreamNeo.

Configure YouTube for 4K 60fps

YouTube’s live encoder guidance, accessed in 2026, recommends different bitrates depending on the codec. These are encoder ingest recommendations, not a guarantee that viewers will receive 4K: their playback quality also depends on their device and connection.

Resolution and frame rate Codec Listed minimum Recommended bitrate
2160p (4K), 60 fps AV1 or H.265/HEVC 10 Mbps 35 Mbps
2160p (4K), 60 fps H.264 14 Mbps 50 Mbps

YouTube lists RTMP and RTMPS ingest, H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1, frame rates up to 60 fps, and constant bitrate (CBR). It recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the transport. Its recommended keyframe interval is two seconds; do not exceed four seconds. Make sure your encoder, source file and outbound connection can sustain the selected codec, resolution, frame rate and bitrate together.

Set up the stream key and resolution

YouTube normally detects resolution and frame rate automatically. If you need to select them manually, YouTube says to use a custom stream key and enable manual settings in Live Control Room. The stream key lets your encoder send its feed to your YouTube event; treat it like a password. Do not share it publicly, and reset it if it may have been exposed.

Account for normal latency

YouTube does not offer its low-latency option for 4K streams; a 4K stream uses normal latency. Plan accordingly if you expect viewers to interact in chat in real time.

Test the complete loop before going live

  1. Use representative footage. Test with gameplay that has motion and audio similar to the recording you intend to loop. Fast movement can reveal encoding or connection problems that a static image will not.
  2. Check the full playback path. Confirm the file repeats as intended and that the encoder or service continues sending it to YouTube when the video reaches its end.
  3. Preview in Live Control Room. Before starting the public stream, check that video and audio appear correctly and that the output is 4K at 60 fps if that is your target.
  4. Watch stream health. Check YouTube’s health messages during the test and operation. For a local setup, also confirm the source file remains available and the playback or encoding process has not stopped.
  5. Keep an operating plan. Decide who will respond if the source stops, the network drops, the encoder crashes or YouTube raises a rights issue. The setup should be tested, but uninterrupted operation is not guaranteed.

Or let it run in the cloud

With StreamNeo, upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams the quality you uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month.

Rights and YouTube policy checks

Before looping gameplay, verify that you have the rights needed for the footage and any music or other material in it. The sources cited here do not establish whether a particular game recording or soundtrack may be rebroadcast, and permission can depend on the rights holder and the material used. Review YouTube’s applicable rules and the relevant rights-holder terms before streaming; a live setup does not make copyrighted material permissible.

Troubleshoot common 4K loop problems

  • The stream is unstable or YouTube reports poor health: Check that your outbound connection can sustain the selected bitrate continuously. Compare it with YouTube’s codec-specific 4K60 recommendation above, and test with representative gameplay before restarting.
  • The stream is not 4K or 60 fps: Confirm the source recording has the intended resolution and frame rate, and inspect the encoder output. YouTube auto-detects these values by default; if you need manual selection, use a custom stream key and enable manual settings.
  • The video plays once and stops: The loop is controlled by your playback/encoder workflow or cloud service, not by an automatic YouTube encoder-feed loop setting. Configure and test repeat behavior in that workflow.
  • Video arrives but audio is missing or wrong: Check the source track and encoder audio selection, then preview the complete path in Live Control Room before going public.
  • The stream ends after an interruption: Identify whether playback, encoding, the network or YouTube ingest stopped. Restart the failed part of the path and verify the preview and stream health again. Do not assume that a local encoder or a cloud service guarantees recovery unless that behavior is expressly provided and tested.
  • The stream key may have leaked: Reset it in YouTube and update the encoder or service with the replacement key before going live again.
