To bring a Windows-based bhajan stream back after a restart, configure OBS to launch again and then verify that it reconnects to the intended YouTube broadcast. Starting OBS is not the same as restoring a live stream: Windows may start before your internet connection, OBS may not select the right broadcast automatically, and a task that runs before sign-in can be difficult to monitor.
Choose how OBS should start
Windows offers two practical launch paths. Use a Startup-folder shortcut or a startup-app setting when you want OBS to open after someone signs in. Use Task Scheduler when you need a system-start trigger, a logon trigger, or additional task conditions. Neither path, by itself, guarantees that the YouTube stream will resume.

Set up OBS to launch at sign-in
Microsoft documents two ways to arrange a sign-in launch. Windows can enable an app in Startup apps, or you can add a shortcut to the Startup folder. The Startup-folder method also works for a program that is not listed in Windows startup settings.
- Check Startup apps: Open Task Manager, select Startup apps, find OBS, and enable it if it is listed. Microsoft describes this as starting an app when you sign in: Configure startup applications in Windows.
- Or add a shortcut for your account: Press Windows key + R, enter
shell:startup, and press Enter. Place a shortcut to OBS in the folder that opens. This path applies to the current user when that user signs in. - For all device users: Use
shell:common startupin the Run dialog and put the shortcut in the folder that opens. This is the all-users Startup folder; each user still needs to sign in for their startup items to run. - Confirm the behavior: Sign out and sign back in as the account that normally operates the stream. Check that OBS opens under the right Windows profile and loads the expected scene and settings.
This route is straightforward, but it does not launch OBS at the Windows sign-in screen. If no one signs in, the shortcut does not run.

Use Task Scheduler for a system-start or logon trigger
Task Scheduler can trigger a task at system start or at user logon. Microsoft’s schtasks reference names these schedules ONSTART and ONLOGON: schtasks create. Prefer a logon trigger when an operator needs to see and control OBS in a normal desktop session. A system-start trigger may be useful for an unattended setup, but do not assume every graphical application behaves the same way when launched outside an interactive session.
- Open Task Scheduler and choose Create Task rather than assuming a basic task wizard provides every setting you need.
- On General, name the task and choose the account that owns the OBS profile and stream configuration. Decide deliberately whether it must run only when that user is logged on; an unattended task can trade visibility and manual control for earlier launch.
- On Triggers, add At startup for system start, or At log on for a user-session launch. Pick the trigger that matches who will operate the stream and when OBS should become available.
- On Actions, create a Start a program action pointing to the OBS executable. If using a command-line argument, put it in Add arguments, not in the executable path.
- On Conditions, consider the network-availability condition if it fits your setup. On Settings, consider task restart settings if the task process fails. Microsoft documents both network conditions and task restart configuration in its PowerShell ScheduledTasks examples: New-ScheduledTaskSettingsSet.
- Save the task, then test the chosen trigger under the account and sign-in conditions you actually intend to use. Check both that OBS starts and that the live broadcast is online.
Task-level retries address a task process that fails; they are not proof that OBS or YouTube will recover every dropped stream. Microsoft’s Task Scheduler schema describes RestartOnFailure as retrying a failed task and requires both a retry count and interval: RestartOnFailure.

Check whether OBS starts the intended YouTube broadcast
An OBS Project forum participant discussing a Windows 11, 24/7 YouTube setup suggested adding --startstreaming to an OBS shortcut or using Task Scheduler after a power failure. That is community advice, not a guarantee that the argument will work for every current OBS and YouTube configuration. Another participant reported that OBS still prompted them to select the stream configured in YouTube Live Studio. Test the actual broadcast destination; seeing OBS open or a stream start command run is not enough to establish that the intended bhajan broadcast is live. In the first thread, a participant wrote, “After power outages your PC and OBS will boot up faster than your network equipment.” That describes their experience, not a measured or universal boot order. It highlights a real failure path: Windows and OBS can be ready while the router or other network equipment is still recovering. The same participant cautioned that auto-reconnect might not work if the initial connection fails.

Run a complete recovery test
Do not treat a successful OBS launch as a successful recovery. Test the whole chain with the Windows account, OBS profile, YouTube broadcast, router and other network equipment you will actually use. Arrange a controlled restart rather than relying on a real outage to discover a problem.
- Before restarting, confirm the intended YouTube broadcast and OBS configuration are ready. Make a note of what an online stream looks like in YouTube’s live interface.
- Restart Windows using the same sign-in conditions planned for normal operation. If your setup depends on an operator signing in, test that workflow; if it uses an at-startup task, check its behavior before and after sign-in.
- Wait for the network equipment to reconnect. If OBS opens before the network is available, check whether it reconnects once connectivity returns rather than assuming it will do so.
- Verify in YouTube that the correct broadcast is actually live. Confirm the bhajan video and audio are playing as expected, not merely that OBS is open.
- If OBS is running without an interface or tray icon, determine in advance how the operator will inspect or control it. One OBS forum user reported that a task launching before sign-in left them without an easy way to connect to the running process after signing in; this is a reported setup trade-off, not a universal result: Running OBS via Task Scheduler at startup.
- Repeat the test after changing the trigger, task account, OBS profile, network condition, or command-line arguments. A change to any link in the recovery chain can alter the result.
Reduce the chance that a short power cut breaks the chain
A UPS for both the PC and network equipment is one possible way to ride through a brief power interruption, but the sources cited here do not establish a suitable capacity, runtime, model, or guarantee of continuous streaming. If considering one, size it for the devices that need power and the duration you need; do not assume protecting the PC alone keeps the internet connection available.
