For a local live performance, use an encoder at the mandali with a stable internet connection, check channel eligibility, clear music rights, and plan how to end or restart sessions: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive. For prerecorded programming, a cloud streaming service can keep the broadcast running without an always-on computer at the mandali.
Choose what “24/7” means for the mandali
First decide whether the broadcast will carry musicians performing at the mandali, a playlist of recordings, or a mix. This determines the equipment, staffing and rights checks. A live performance needs a working audio and video chain at the venue and someone who can respond to problems. A prerecorded stream needs videos prepared for continuous playback; it does not show a live camera view of the gathering.
- Live performance: Use a camera and encoder with microphones or other external audio equipment suited to the singers and instruments. Test the mix in the room where the stream will run; there is no universally suitable microphone or mixer for every mandali.
- Prerecorded programming: Prepare recordings and a visual, then use an encoder or cloud service to play them as a live YouTube broadcast. Confirm that the recordings and any accompanying arrangements are cleared for the broadcast and replay.
- Mixed programming: Plan who will switch between live segments and recordings, and how the encoder will remain connected during transitions.
A 24/7 channel does not have to be one unbroken YouTube session. If preserving a YouTube replay matters, schedule shorter sessions and verify that each new session is live after a handoff.
Check channel eligibility before launch
- Verify the YouTube channel and confirm it has no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days.
- Enable live streaming well ahead of the first broadcast. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- Check that the person streaming meets YouTube’s age requirement: the cited YouTube guidance says a streamer must be at least 16.
- Choose a volunteer who will be responsible for checking the stream and responding if the connection, audio or encoder fails.
These conditions are YouTube access requirements, not equipment recommendations. Check the channel’s current Live Control Room status rather than waiting until the day of an event.

Connect an encoder to YouTube
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown for the broadcast into the encoder’s YouTube streaming settings.
- Keep the stream key private. It functions like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a signal to the stream. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
- Set the stream to private or unlisted for a test if appropriate, then use the encoder preview in Live Control Room to check the signal before starting the public broadcast.
YouTube describes encoder streaming as useful when a creator needs overlays or external equipment such as microphones and preamps. OBS is one software option; YouTube’s HLS documentation lists it among software with HLS output support. HLS is an alternative ingestion protocol and has higher latency than RTMP. For a straightforward setup, use the YouTube workflow supported by your encoder; there is no need to choose HLS unless you have a specific reason.
Set video quality and upload bandwidth
For a fixed altar view or mostly static scene, choose a reliable profile rather than maximizing resolution. YouTube’s H.264 guidance recommends the following settings:

YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; its guidance says keyframes should be no more than four seconds apart. Treat these as YouTube’s recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular connection or encoder will sustain the stream.

Measure upload speed on the actual connection and, if possible, at the time the stream will run. YouTube says the total stream bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. A shared connection can leave less bandwidth for the encoder than a speed test suggests. Test the complete audio and video setup, then reduce the bitrate or resolution if the signal is unstable.

- Set up the encoder before launch and send a test signal to Live Control Room.
- Check the audio for clear vocals and balanced instruments, and inspect the video scene for framing and lighting.
- Confirm the stream appears on the channel and watch pages, then open the watch page on a phone to verify it is accessible and looks and sounds right there.
- Watch Live Control Room’s stream health while the encoder is running. Assign a named volunteer to check it during the broadcast.
- If keeping a local recording, confirm that the recording file exists and is growing before relying on it as a backup.
A backup encoder is optional, not a YouTube prerequisite. If you configure one, test failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its network connection and checking that the backup takes over.
Plan session handoffs and recordings
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived. A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all; YouTube does not promise a seamless automatic restart. If the mandali needs a replay, do not rely on one continuous session for a 24/7 schedule.

- End and start sessions at a planned handoff before the 12-hour threshold, then verify the replacement stream is live.
- Keep a local recording if an independent archive matters, and check that it is actually being saved.
- Remember that DVR, which lets viewers pause or rewind, may be limited on long streams.
YouTube’s August 12, 2026 blog post says public archived livestreams can contribute qualified watch hours toward YouTube Partner Program eligibility; streams that are not archived do not count for that metric. This is one eligibility metric, not a promise of channel approval or revenue.
Clear rights for bhajans and recordings
YouTube scans livestreams for matches to third-party content. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder, and continued use can interrupt or terminate the broadcast. If the mandali has permission to use third-party material, the rights owner may still need to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist.
Before going live, document the repertoire and confirm the necessary rights for both the live performance and any replay or archive. A bhajan’s devotional nature, age, or familiarity does not establish that a particular composition, arrangement, or recording is cleared. The relevant permissions depend on the country and the specific rights holders; consult those rights holders or a local adviser for jurisdiction-specific requirements. YouTube’s livestream terms also require streamers to hold the necessary rights, including music licensing rights, and to follow applicable laws.
