Yes. You can send a pre-recorded 4K video to YouTube Live as a continuous broadcast using a local encoder or a cloud playout service. For a do-it-yourself setup, the encoder must keep sending the file or playlist, and the computer and internet connection must remain available. YouTube’s encoder directory also lists services designed for continuous playback of pre-recorded video, including 4K. “Continuous” describes the workflow, not a guarantee of uninterrupted availability.
Ways to run a continuous pre-recorded stream
There are two broad approaches: run playout from a computer you control, or use a cloud service that sends the video for you. YouTube lists software encoders such as OBS and separately describes Gyre as a cloud service for 24/7 pre-recorded streams in Full HD and 4K. Its directory says Gyre includes a converter that optimizes files for YouTube Live standards; these are directory descriptions, not independent tests or reliability guarantees. YouTube’s encoder directory does not establish that every software encoder has an automated, unattended playlist workflow.
Local encoder
A local encoder gives you direct control, but the host computer, encoder, source files, and upstream connection all need to keep working. Configure the encoder to play the file or playlist continuously and send it to the YouTube stream associated with your stream key. Test the playlist and audio/video behavior before leaving it unattended; do not assume that a successful start guarantees continued playback.
Cloud playout
A cloud playout service sends uploaded video without requiring your home computer to stay on. Compare services by whether they explicitly support continuous pre-recorded playlists, the formats and quality they accept, how you configure the YouTube stream key, and what happens if YouTube disconnects the stream. A cloud workflow reduces local equipment demands, but the available evidence does not establish a general uptime guarantee for these services.

StreamNeo: cloud playback for YouTube
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud. 4K settings to check before going live
Match the output to the source file and the sustained upload capacity of the connection. YouTube’s current settings table, accessed October 3, 2026, gives these 2160p recommendations:
| Output | AV1 or HEVC range | H.264 recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| 2160p at 30 fps | 8–35 Mbps | 30 Mbps |
| 2160p at 60 fps | 10–40 Mbps | 35 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s published encoder settings, not a guarantee that a particular computer or connection can sustain them. YouTube recommends constant bitrate encoding, a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds), and RTMPS. Its RTMP/RTMPS guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, with frame rates up to 60 fps. Check that the encoder and workflow you choose support your intended codec and output.

Leave upload headroom: YouTube recommends 20% beyond the streaming bitrate. Include any backup stream when estimating the total bandwidth demand. If upload capacity fluctuates near the target, a 4K stream may be less reliable than a lower-bitrate output.
YouTube says 4K/2160p live streams use normal latency; its low-latency option is unavailable for 4K. Viewers may see different playback resolutions because YouTube transcodes the incoming stream into multiple output formats.

Launch and monitor the stream
- Check channel eligibility. The channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Review YouTube’s live-streaming requirements before scheduling.
- Prepare the source and rights. Confirm the file plays correctly, the playlist continues as intended, and you have the rights to every video and audio element. Live content remains subject to YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
- Configure the encoder or cloud playout. Add the YouTube stream key using the chosen service’s instructions. Set resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, and keyframe interval to values the source, encoder, and connection can sustain.
- Test with representative content. YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and motion. Check the Live Control Room preview before treating the stream as ready.
- Monitor after launch. Check stream health and messages, and verify that both audio and video continue. For a local setup, YouTube recommends confirming that a local archive file is growing. A successful initial connection alone does not confirm a long-running stream is healthy.
Continuous broadcast is not the same as a saved replay
YouTube says it can automatically archive streams under 12 hours, including 1440p and 2160p streams. But if a stream exceeds 12 hours, “it may not be captured at all.” Keep a separate local recording if a complete replay matters; do not rely on the YouTube archive as the only copy. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
Common problems and fixes
- The stream starts but later drops or stalls: Check stream health messages, the encoder’s output, playlist continuation, and upstream stability. Confirm that available upload bandwidth has the recommended headroom. For unattended use, test the full workflow rather than only a brief launch.
- 4K output is unstable: Compare the encoder bitrate with the connection’s sustained upload capacity, including any backup stream. Reduce the bitrate or output resolution if the connection cannot maintain the target reliably.
- Viewers cannot select 4K immediately: YouTube transcodes incoming live streams into multiple playback formats, so viewer playback options can differ from the incoming 2160p signal.
- The replay is missing or incomplete: A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Make and verify a local recording when preserving the full broadcast is important.
- Live access is unavailable: Check that the channel is verified and has not had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days; review YouTube’s current eligibility requirements.
- Content is blocked or restricted: Check rights for all prerecorded video and audio, and ensure the stream complies with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
