1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor most creators setting up a continuous YouTube bhajan stream, start with OBS: it offers a graphical workflow for connecting an encoder to YouTube without building a custom media pipeline. Choose FFmpeg if you are comfortable with command-line tools and need scripted control over media input, looping, or output. Neither encoder by itself guarantees an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast.
OBS or FFmpeg: which fits your bhajan stream?
| Your need | Better starting point | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Graphical setup and a typical creator workflow | OBS | YouTube lists Open Broadcaster Software as free, open-source streaming software, and its encoder workflow uses a server URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains the connection process. |
| Scripted media handling or customized input and output | FFmpeg | Its command-line workflow suits operators who want direct control. FFmpeg documents an infinite video-frame loop option, but that does not establish that an entire audio-and-video playlist will repeat seamlessly. See the FFmpeg Filters documentation. |
| Unattended 24/7 operation | Neither encoder alone | Continuous operation also depends on stable power and network service, prepared media, a running encoder, recovery procedures, and YouTube ingest health. YouTube advises testing and monitoring stream health; it does not guarantee uninterrupted delivery for either encoder. |
For a volunteer-run or nontechnical setup, OBS is a sensible starting point because the workflow is graphical. That is a practical recommendation, not a result from comparative usability testing. FFmpeg is the better fit when the operator can manage commands, process supervision, and media-specific configuration.
Prepare the YouTube stream and encoder settings
- Create or select the live stream. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or choose the broadcast and copy its server URL and stream key into the encoder. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe this setup. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, share it in a public command, or expose it in a screenshot.
- Use the secure ingest option. YouTube recommends RTMPS. FFmpeg documents RTMPS as RTMP over a secure SSL connection; that protocol support does not guarantee that a particular FFmpeg build or command is configured correctly. See FFmpeg’s protocol documentation.
- Set a constant bitrate and keyframes. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a 2-second keyframe interval, not more than 4 seconds. Its published recommendations are guidance rather than mandatory settings. See YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.
- Choose a profile your upload connection can sustain. For H.264, YouTube recommends 8 Mbps at 720p/30 fps and 14 Mbps at 1080p/30 fps. A static or low-motion devotional visual may work well as an initial 720p/30 fps profile, but select the bitrate based on a speed test and leave upload headroom rather than saturating the connection. These are platform recommendations, not guarantees of successful delivery.
- Configure audio and test representative content. YouTube recommends AAC or MP3 audio. Test with the actual bhajan audio and the planned visuals before relying on a long broadcast, then monitor stream health in Live Control Room. YouTube’s guidance is direct: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
Looping a bhajan video is not the same as keeping the broadcast alive
A repeated visual source and a continuously available YouTube broadcast are separate concerns. FFmpeg’s video loop filter documents -1 as the value for infinite looping. That setting concerns video frames; it is not proof that arbitrary audio, a mixed audio/video file, or a playlist will loop seamlessly. Build and test the complete playback chain rather than assuming a video loop setting solves every source-playback case.
Plan recovery for each likely interruption:
- Source reaches end-of-file: Confirm that the playback method has an intentional repeat or playlist transition, and test what happens at the end of each file.
- Encoder process stops: An unattended setup needs an operator or a process supervisor with a tested restart policy. Neither OBS nor FFmpeg alone is a guarantee that a stopped process restarts.
- Network or YouTube ingest drops: Test the reconnection and recovery path, and monitor stream health. A looping source cannot repair a broken connection by itself.
- Broadcast ends or is manually stopped: Confirm the stream’s status in Live Control Room and determine who is responsible for restarting it.
Before calling a setup continuous, test playback reaching the end of a file, an encoder restart, a network interruption, and the broadcast’s status in YouTube. YouTube recommends testing planned audio and motion and monitoring stream health; it does not promise that a particular recovery arrangement will work.

YouTube limits and archive behavior to plan around
YouTube’s encoder help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a broadcast planned to run longer will produce one automatically archived recording under that rule. Check the current Live Control Room behavior and plan separately for any recording or video-on-demand copy you need. The help page does not state a publication year for this guidance.
YouTube currently states limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key, with both limits applying at once. This matters when a channel runs multiple concurrent broadcasts; it is not a reason to prefer OBS over FFmpeg. See YouTube’s live-streaming overview.

Check rights for the exact bhajan recording
A devotional song’s rights status cannot be determined from its genre or title. The particular recording, arrangement, performance, or underlying composition may have rights holders. Verify that you have permission to stream the exact audio you plan to use; do not assume that a bhajan recording is free to broadcast because it is devotional or widely available online.
