How to Set Up OBS on Windows for a 4K 60fps YouTube Live Loop in India

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You can run a prerecorded 4K/60 fps video as a YouTube Live loop from OBS on Windows, but first confirm two things: your encoder can sustain 4K/60 and your internet connection has enough stable upload capacity. YouTube’s English-language encoder table recommends 50 Mbps for H.264 or 35 Mbps for AV1/H.265 at 4K/60; those are video bitrates, not guaranteed internet-speed requirements. YouTube also recommends about 20% upload headroom. Check the current options in YouTube Live Control Room before settling on a bitrate, because surfaced localized tables do not always match.

This guide covers the settings and operating workflow, with an important limitation: the exact current OBS Windows controls for adding and looping a media file can vary by version, and are not verified here. Confirm those controls in your installed OBS version, then rehearse the complete stream—including at least one loop boundary—before relying on it.

Check whether your PC and upload connection can handle 4K60

Choose a bitrate your encoder and connection can sustain

YouTube Help’s English-language live-encoder table, accessed in 2026, lists the following 4K/2160p at 60 fps recommendations:

Ingest codec Minimum video bitrate Recommended video bitrate
H.264 14 Mbps 50 Mbps
AV1 or H.265/HEVC 10 Mbps 35 Mbps

These are YouTube’s stated ingest values, not a promise that a specific Windows PC, hardware encoder, or Indian internet plan can maintain them. The 50 Mbps and 35 Mbps recommendations are from the English-language table; a surfaced Indonesia-localized table differs. Do not combine the tables or assume the discrepancy describes Indian network conditions. Before the stream, confirm the currently accepted settings in Live Control Room and choose a rate the encoder and connection actually sustain. YouTube’s live encoder settings and bitrates.

Leave upload headroom

YouTube recommends about 20% upload headroom and warns that the total outgoing bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth. For illustration, a 50 Mbps video stream needs more than 50 Mbps of stable usable upload to leave that headroom; audio and other outgoing traffic also use capacity. This is arithmetic based on YouTube’s guidance, not an India-specific speed threshold or a guarantee from a speed test. Test upload performance, preferably over the connection and at the time you plan to stream. Other people and devices sharing the network can reduce the bandwidth available to the streaming PC. YouTube’s streaming tips.

A wired Ethernet connection may help avoid some wireless variability if your PC and router support it, but a cable cannot create bandwidth or correct an unstable ISP connection.

Confirm the PC’s encoder capabilities

The selected codec must be supported by the encoder available on your PC, and the encoder must cope with the chosen resolution and frame rate. Check the options actually offered by your installed OBS version and hardware; YouTube’s ingest recommendations do not specify a particular GPU preset or guarantee that a device can encode 4K/60 in real time. If AV1 or HEVC is unavailable or unstable, use a supported path such as H.264 and make sure the connection can sustain its selected bitrate.

Choose 4K60 SDR or HDR deliberately

SDR is the straightforward default

A 4K/60 stream does not have to be HDR. YouTube’s SDR guidance specifies Rec. 709 color and 8-bit depth. For a standard SDR recording, keep the source and OBS output workflow aligned with SDR rather than enabling HDR settings without an HDR source and compatible encoder.

HDR needs compatible source and encoding

YouTube’s OBS HDR instructions call for OBS 30.1 or later, an HDR source, a hardware HEVC encoder, Main 10, P010, and Rec. 2100 PQ or HLG. Confirm that the installed hardware and OBS expose these options before choosing HDR. YouTube’s HDR live-streaming instructions.

Set the YouTube Live ingest requirements in OBS

YouTube accepts RTMP or RTMPS ingest and recommends RTMPS because it encrypts the transfer. Its stated video codec options are H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1, subject to encoder support. Use constant bitrate (CBR), set a two-second keyframe interval, and do not exceed four seconds. YouTube supports frame rates up to 60 fps. For stereo audio, its advanced recommendations include AAC or MP3, 44.1 kHz, and 128 kbps. Check the current Live Control Room values and match OBS to the available ingest settings. At 4K/2160p, YouTube says the low-latency improvement option is unavailable: the stream is optimized for quality with normal latency. Latency is a trade-off between delay and possible buffering; do not plan on the low-latency option for a 4K stream. YouTube’s stream settings and latency information.

Build the OBS prerecorded-video loop

The workflow is to add the recording as a media source, configure that source to repeat, route its audio as intended, set the video canvas and output for the intended 4K frame size and 60 fps, and connect OBS to YouTube’s stream destination and key. Exact Windows menu paths and the loop control’s label can depend on the installed OBS version; verify them in that version rather than relying on an unverified button-by-button recipe.

  1. Prepare the source file. Confirm that the recording plays correctly and that its dimensions, frame rate, picture, and audio are suitable for the intended stream. A 4K/60 stream cannot restore detail or smoothness missing from a lower-resolution or lower-frame-rate source.
  2. Add the video source and enable repetition. In OBS, add the recording as a media source and locate its repeat/loop behavior in the source’s current properties. Verify that playback restarts when it reaches the end. The exact control label and behavior should be checked in your installed OBS version; do not assume every file or container will repeat reliably.
  3. Check audio routing. Confirm the source audio is audible in OBS and is included in the stream mix. Listen for silence, clipping, or a discontinuity as playback reaches the end and begins again.
  4. Set the intended video format. Configure OBS for a 4K frame size and 60 fps, then select an encoder, codec, rate control, bitrate, keyframe interval, and audio settings that match YouTube’s current ingest options and your PC’s capabilities. The platform values above are not a hardware encoder preset.
  5. Connect to YouTube. In Live Control Room, obtain the stream URL and stream key for the event, then enter them in OBS’s streaming connection settings using the RTMPS option where available. YouTube allows a custom stream key to be reused. Treat the key like a password: never show it in screenshots or publish it.
  6. Rehearse through a loop boundary. Run an unlisted or private test long enough for the video to reach its end and start again. Check the OBS preview, YouTube’s Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages, audio continuity, dropped frames, and playback from a viewer’s perspective. A brief test that ends before the source loops cannot reveal boundary problems.

Preflight and monitor the live event

YouTube recommends setting up the encoder stream in advance, starting the encoder before the scheduled event, checking the Live Control Room preview before going live, monitoring audio and video quality, and verifying that the event can be watched on the channel or watch page and on mobile devices. For a continuous recording loop, apply those checks to the actual source and stream settings. They reduce avoidable surprises but do not guarantee uninterrupted uptime. YouTube’s live streaming tips.

  • Confirm the intended event, visibility, title, and stream key in Live Control Room.
  • Check that OBS is sending the expected resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate and that YouTube reports a healthy ingest.
  • Listen to the stream audio and verify the viewer playback, not just the local OBS meters.
  • Watch the stream long enough to check a complete source loop and inspect for dropped frames or buffering.
  • Keep the PC, OBS, and network connection available for the stream; this is a computer-based setup, not a cloud relay.

Troubleshoot common 4K60 loop problems

Symptom Likely area to check Next action
YouTube reports poor stream health or the stream buffers Upload capacity, shared network use, or an outgoing bitrate that is too high Compare the total outgoing bitrate with stable upload capacity, leave YouTube’s recommended headroom, reduce the bitrate if needed, and retest.
OBS cannot use the selected codec or encoder Installed hardware, driver, or OBS encoder options Select a codec and encoder actually available on the PC; verify that the hardware can sustain the chosen 4K/60 settings.
Video freezes, stops, or does not restart at the end Media source loop behavior or source-file compatibility Check the current media-source repeat control and rehearse through the end of the file; try a suitable source file if playback does not repeat reliably.
Picture works but audio is missing or breaks at the loop point Source audio routing, stream mix, or the recording’s own boundary Confirm the media source is included in OBS audio output and listen to a full loop in the YouTube preview.
OBS appears connected but the event is not ready to viewers Live Control Room event state or ingest preview Check stream-health messages and preview, then verify the event on the channel/watch page and a mobile device.
HDR picture looks wrong or HDR settings are absent SDR/HDR mismatch or missing compatible source/encoder support Use the SDR Rec. 709 workflow for an SDR source, or confirm the HDR source and YouTube’s stated OBS, HEVC Main 10, P010, and Rec. 2100 requirements.
