You can run a Malayalam movie songs playlist as a YouTube livestream only after you have written permission for every recording that covers livestreaming in your intended territories. A playlist, encoder, and YouTube stream key make the broadcast technically possible; they do not grant music rights. Once rights are cleared and the channel is ready, send the playlist through a software or hardware encoder, monitor YouTube Studio, and plan the archive around YouTube’s limits.
Can you stream Malayalam movie songs live on YouTube?
Yes, if you have all necessary rights for each song and recording and follow YouTube’s rules. YouTube’s live-stream terms place responsibility on the streamer to secure the rights needed for live content, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public-performance licenses), and other royalty participants. The terms also refer to regulations in each territory where the stream is available. Read YouTube’s live-stream terms.
Do not assume that a permission for one country covers a worldwide broadcast. Ask the rights holders to specify the territories, use, duration, and any conditions. The sources available here do not identify the owner or licensing route for any particular Malayalam film song, so confirm rights title by title—including the specific recording or version you intend to play. YouTube’s guidance says safe music is music in the public domain or music you have permission to use from the copyright owner. YouTube’s safe-music guidance.
What permission should cover
Before scheduling the stream, get written confirmation that covers YouTube livestreaming, the territories where it will be available, repeated use, and replay or archiving if you intend to leave an archive available. Ask separately whether monetization is permitted and what restrictions apply. Keep the written permissions and a track list with the song title, film, exact recording/version, label, and publisher information available.

Buying a track, finding it online with a “free” label, or crediting the film, composer, singer, or label does not establish permission to livestream it. YouTube notes that music labelled free may still be flagged, attribution is not permission, and Content ID cannot tell whether you obtained rights elsewhere. YouTube’s guidance on finding safe music.
Why a cleared song can still interrupt the stream
YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content. A detected song can trigger a warning, a placeholder image, an interruption, or termination. YouTube also warns that a licensed live stream may still be interrupted if the rights owner has not added the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Copyright issues with live streams.

- Ask each relevant rights holder whether it uses Content ID and, if so, request that it add your YouTube channel to its allowlist before the first broadcast.
- Confirm that the permission covers the exact recording, territories, live use, and any replay you plan to keep.
- During the broadcast, watch YouTube Studio for warnings or restrictions. If the stream is interrupted, check the Studio notice for the applicable restriction or strike and contact the rights holder; do not simply restart with the same unresolved match.
Does Creator Music license livestreams?
No. YouTube’s Creator Music licensing and revenue-sharing options do not cover livestreams, so they are not a workaround for a Malayalam film-songs live playlist. YouTube’s current Help pages describe Creator Music access for U.S. YouTube Partner Program creators, with expansion elsewhere described as pending; check the Help page for current availability. Prepare the playlist and clear rights before setup
- Make a track-by-track inventory. Record each song title, film, exact recording or version, label, and publisher details where available. A cover, remaster, soundtrack version, or alternate recording may involve different rights.
- Obtain written permissions. Ask the relevant rights holders to authorize the intended YouTube live use, territories, repeated broadcasts, archive/replay, and monetization terms, as applicable. Do not infer that one blanket permission covers every song.
- Arrange Content ID allowlisting. If a rights holder uses Content ID, have it allowlist your channel before going live. Keep confirmation of the request or status.
- Prepare playback files and order. Build a playlist from the exact recordings covered by the permissions. Check that each file plays and that the sequence behaves as expected before connecting it to the live encoder.
- Decide how to handle interruptions. Keep an operator available to monitor Studio and respond to a claim or restriction. A playlist that loops by itself does not resolve a rights issue.
Choose an encoder: computer software or standalone hardware
YouTube supports software encoders running on a computer and standalone hardware encoders. Either can send a stream to YouTube using the server URL and stream key. The right choice depends on whether you want to use a dedicated computer or a separate device; YouTube’s encoder guidance does not establish a cost or reliability advantage for either category. | Option | Setup and host device | Oversight | Playlist use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Software encoder | Install and configure encoder software on a computer; the computer must remain on and connected while it sends the stream. | An operator can monitor the computer and YouTube Studio, but the broadcast depends on the host computer and its connection. | Suitable when the software can play or receive the pre-recorded playlist as its video input; verify the exact software’s playback and looping behavior. |
| Standalone hardware encoder | Use a separate encoding device rather than a computer running encoder software; check the device’s own media-playback and YouTube setup instructions. | Requires monitoring of the device and the YouTube broadcast; no reliability or unattended-operation guarantee is established here. | Use only if the device supports the playlist playback workflow you need; encoder capability alone does not guarantee built-in looping. |
Set up the YouTube live stream and connect the encoder
If this is the channel’s first live stream, enabling live streaming may take up to 24 hours. YouTube supports webcam, mobile, and encoder routes; an encoder is the route for sending a prepared playlist from software or a standalone device. Use the current labels and prompts in YouTube Studio, since interface details can change. YouTube encoder setup instructions.
- Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, follow the live-stream setup prompts for the channel. If live streaming is not enabled yet, allow up to 24 hours for first-time enablement.
- Create or schedule the stream. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Enter its title, visibility, and other event details.
- Copy the connection details. In the stream setup, copy the server URL and stream key supplied by YouTube. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Configure the encoder. Enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key in the encoder. Select the playlist or media input and confirm that the encoder is sending the intended content.
- Check the preview. In Live Control Room, verify that the video and audio preview correctly and that the selected event is the one you intend to run.
- Start and monitor. Start the broadcast from the encoder and watch the YouTube Studio status and rights notices. Keep an operator available to respond if YouTube warns, replaces the image, interrupts, or terminates the stream.
Will one stream run all day, and how long is the archive?
YouTube automatically archives livestreams shorter than 12 hours. The guidance cited here does not establish that an over-12-hour broadcast will be saved as one complete replay, or that restarting a stream creates uninterrupted playback. Do not promise viewers a single complete all-day archive on that basis. Check the current options shown for your channel and plan your broadcast and replay needs accordingly. Monetization is a separate question
Permission to play a song and eligibility to earn revenue are different matters. YouTube says eligible YouTube Partner Program creators may monetize live streams, but that does not establish that this particular playlist qualifies. Confirm that the music permissions allow monetization and satisfy YouTube’s applicable channel and content requirements before enabling ads or presenting the stream as monetized.
Troubleshooting common problems
- You cannot start a live stream: If this is the channel’s first livestream, enablement may take up to 24 hours. Complete the Studio setup and check the current channel prompts before the planned start.
- The encoder connects but no stream appears in the preview: Recheck that the encoder uses the server URL and stream key for the correct event, then verify its media input and connection status.
- YouTube displays a copyright warning or placeholder: A live match may have been detected. Check Live Control Room for the notice, review the exact track against your permissions, and contact the rights holder. If licensed, confirm the channel’s Content ID allowlist status.
- The broadcast is interrupted or terminated: Review YouTube Studio for the restriction or strike. Resolve the rights issue with the rights holder before attempting another broadcast; repeatedly restarting the same unapproved content does not provide clearance.
- You expect a complete replay but the stream ran beyond 12 hours: Automatic archiving is documented for streams under 12 hours, not as a guarantee for longer broadcasts. Check the current channel archive options rather than assuming one complete replay exists.
