OBS Studio is the best general starting point for free Windows software to capture and stream gaming replays on YouTube Live. It is free, open source, and built for scene-based streaming. If you mean saving recent gameplay as a clip, use a replay buffer; if you mean showing a replay during the live broadcast, you also need to bring that clip into the broadcast as a source. Streamlabs Desktop is a credible alternative with documented instant-replay controls.
First, decide what “rotate replays” means
The phrase can describe two different jobs, and software setup depends on which one you want:
- Save recent gameplay: A replay buffer keeps a rolling window of recent footage so you can save a clip after a key moment.
- Play a replay on the live stream: You need to capture or select a saved clip, then put it into the live production and switch to it or play it as part of the broadcast.
A replay buffer does not automatically air its saved clips. Plan and rehearse capture and playback as separate actions. YouTube describes an encoder as software or hardware that converts video into a digital format for streaming to YouTube; desktop streaming applications can serve as that encoder. Best free Windows option: OBS Studio
OBS Studio is a strong general-purpose choice if you want a free, open-source Windows application for arranging scenes and streaming. Its flexibility suits a gaming broadcast with gameplay, overlays, and a replay playback scene. The official OBS page establishes those broad capabilities, but does not provide detailed replay-buffer instructions here, so check the current OBS controls and documentation before following any version-specific menu path.

Plan the two-part replay workflow
- Prepare capture: Find the replay-buffer feature in your current OBS version, choose a buffer duration that suits the clips you want, and assign a convenient save-replay control. Confirm the buffer is active before you rely on it.
- Prepare playback: Add a scene or source arrangement for playing a saved clip. Decide how you will switch from gameplay to the replay and back without interrupting the broadcast.
- Rehearse: Save a test clip, play it through the planned scene, and verify that the transition works before using it on a live audience.
These are workflow checks, not a claim that a particular OBS menu label or configuration is unchanged across versions.
Alternative: Streamlabs Desktop
Streamlabs Desktop is a credible option if you prefer its integrated streaming and instant-replay controls. Streamlabs says the software can stream and record for free and supports YouTube Live. Its support articles explain replay-buffer operation and instant replays; one specifically advises testing the replay buffer before going live.

- Set and test the control you will use to save an instant replay.
- Set up how a saved clip will appear in your broadcast; capturing a replay and airing it are distinct steps.

Before you go live
- Confirm the replay buffer is running; assigning a save control alone is not enough.
- Press the replay-save control during a test and confirm a clip is actually saved.
- Rehearse how the clip enters the broadcast and how you return to gameplay.
- Run a private or test broadcast to check the whole sequence before relying on it live.
