You can rebroadcast a saved League of Legends ranked match by opening its replay in the League client, capturing the game presentation with a streaming encoder, and sending that encoder feed to a YouTube Live event. The key caveat: an old match archive may not open in the League client version you currently have, so test the actual file before scheduling viewers.
Before you schedule the broadcast
- Test the archive first. Its compatibility depends on the specific match archive and the League client available to you; official documentation does not establish that every older archive will load. Open the client and try the replay before announcing a time.
- Check rights to everything viewers will hear and see. Verify that you have appropriate rights to the match material and any third-party audio or overlays in the presentation. There is no blanket rights clearance for a particular archive.
- Choose a format that describes the experience accurately. Label the event as an archived match replay in its title or description. YouTube distinguishes a live stream—media broadcast in real time—from a Premiere, where viewers watch a prerecorded video together in real time. If you do not intend to present the rerun as a live broadcast, consider a Premiere instead. YouTube’s guide to live streams explains the distinction.
Choose how to play and capture the replay
Standard route: play it in the League client
Open the match archive in the League client and play the replay. Use a streaming encoder to capture the game’s presentation and send it to YouTube. The official YouTube workflow requires an encoder feed, but does not prescribe a specific capture configuration; choose settings that your system and connection can sustain, and check the encoder’s preview before going live.
This route is the practical choice for a straightforward rerun with YouTube scheduling and live chat. It requires the archive to open in your available client, and someone must manage the client and encoder throughout the event.
Advanced route: Riot’s Replay API
If you need automated playback, camera movement, rendering controls, or recording control, Riot documents a Replay API. It is disabled by default and requires local game-client configuration, so it is not a prerequisite for an ordinary replay broadcast. Riot notes that the API can adjust the in-game camera during replays. See Riot Games Developer Relations’ League of Legends documentation for the available controls.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Create the YouTube Live event and connect the encoder
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live event. Set its title, description, thumbnail, visibility, and schedule. State clearly that viewers are watching an archived ranked match, not a current match.
- Copy the event’s stream key from YouTube and enter it in your encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the key as a credential: do not share it publicly.
- Start the replay in the League client and start the encoder’s feed to YouTube. Wait until YouTube receives the feed and displays a preview.
- When the preview is ready, select Go Live in YouTube Studio. Starting the encoder feed and starting the broadcast are separate actions: the broadcast should not begin until YouTube has received the feed.
- Choose chat and moderation settings appropriate for your audience, then monitor the feed and chat during the event.
YouTube’s official live production guide describes the encoder, stream-key, preview, and Go Live sequence. Google’s Live Streaming API documentation distinguishes the broadcast—the event and video—from the stream carrying the audio-video feed; recurring broadcasts can reuse stream settings.
Keep the broadcast usable and preserve the replay
Enable DVR if viewers should pause or rewind
Turn on DVR in the event’s live-stream settings if you want viewers to pause or rewind while the broadcast is running. DVR does not let viewers seek to a point before the stream began, and its availability may be limited for streams longer than 12 hours. Details are in YouTube’s DVR guidance.

Keep the event under 12 hours and make a local recording
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but it warns that longer streams may not be captured at all. The platform recommends keeping a local recording as a backup. After the event, check YouTube Studio’s Live content and confirm the archive; update its visibility or details if needed. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
Troubleshooting the rerun
- The archive will not open: Compatibility depends on the particular archive and available League client. Try the actual file before scheduling; official documentation does not settle compatibility for an individual archive.
- YouTube has no preview: Confirm that the encoder is sending its feed and that you entered the stream key for the intended event. Wait for YouTube to receive the feed before selecting Go Live.
- The broadcast has started, but viewers cannot rewind far enough: DVR cannot seek to before the stream began. Also check whether the event’s length limits DVR availability.
- The finished stream is missing or incomplete: Check YouTube Studio’s Live content, but do not assume every broadcast will be archived. Streams over 12 hours may not be captured; keep the encoder’s local recording.
- Viewers think the match is happening now: Make the archived-replay status explicit in the event title or description. That is clearer than relying on viewers to infer it from the gameplay.
