To replay a gaming VOD as an actual YouTube livestream every day, loop the recording in OBS Studio, schedule a YouTube Live event, and make sure an encoder host is running at the scheduled time. If you only want a recording to become public each day, schedule a normal upload in YouTube Studio instead; that does not create a live event or live watch page.
Choose between a livestream rerun and a scheduled VOD

YouTube documents scheduled livestreams and scheduled video publishing as separate workflows. Use its scheduled video publishing option if the live format is not important.
Check channel eligibility and rights first
- YouTube says live streaming requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions during the preceding 90 days. Its getting-started guidance also says users must be at least 16. Check the channel’s current status and eligibility in YouTube’s live-streaming guidance before relying on a recurring event.
- Make sure you have the necessary rights for worldwide use of the livestream and any archived version, including music rights. Gameplay footage, in-game music, overlays, and other included audiovisual material may have separate permissions. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility for those rights on the creator.
- Do not assume that repeating a prerecorded stream makes a channel eligible for monetization. Technical scheduling does not determine how YouTube will assess a channel or its format under monetization review.
Set up a looping gaming VOD in OBS
- Prepare the source file. Keep a rights-cleared copy of the gameplay recording accessible to the computer that will run OBS. If the recording matters, retain a separate local backup.
- Add a single recording. In OBS, add a Media Source, select the video file, and enable its Loop option. OBS documents Media Source playback and looping in its Media Sources guide.
- For a rotation of recordings, add a playlist. Use the VLC Video source, create the playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. OBS notes that VLC must be installed for this source type.
- Check the scene before scheduling. Confirm the video and audio play as intended, and that the loop returns to the beginning. Do not leave private or unintended material in the scene.
Schedule the YouTube Live event and connect OBS
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and schedule a livestream, following YouTube’s encoder setup steps.
- In OBS, configure the YouTube service with the stream URL and stream key supplied for the event. YouTube describes the key as a password and address for a stream; treat it as a credential, keep it out of public screen captures, and share it only with trusted operators. See Manage live stream settings.
- Review the event title, description, privacy, and other details before each broadcast. Reused settings can copy metadata and a stream key, so do not assume a new event has the right details simply because an earlier one did.
- Confirm OBS is sending the intended picture and sound to the event. Scheduling the YouTube event does not itself start a computer or encoder that is offline.
Make the rerun recur
Manual recurring setup
You can schedule events in Studio and start the encoder for each one. This is straightforward, but it is not hands-off: an operator still needs to ensure the source and encoder are running at the scheduled start.
API-based scheduling
YouTube’s Live Streaming API can create and manage broadcast resources and associate them with stream configurations. The documented broadcast-and-stream model can support a more programmatic recurring-event setup, but API scheduling does not replace a working video source, encoder host, or operational checks. Plan for the archive and verify each run
YouTube may automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours; a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If preserving the VOD matters, keep a local recording or source backup rather than relying only on YouTube’s archive. YouTube explains the behavior and recommends a local backup in Archive live streams.
- Before the start, confirm the scheduled event, encoder host, source file, and stream key are ready.
- During the run, check the encoder feed and listen for audio; do not treat a scheduled event as proof that the stream is actually playing correctly.
- Afterward, check whether YouTube captured the archive and whether the result is usable.
Troubleshoot common failures
