To stop one recorded match from restarting, turn off Loop on its OBS Media Source. To keep a broadcast running while rotating through several match recordings, use an OBS VLC Video source with a playlist of distinct files, then choose an ordered rotation or shuffle. YouTube Studio manages the broadcast and its archive; it does not control the encoder’s media playlist.
Choose the right playback setup
- One recording keeps restarting: Turn off Loop on the OBS Media Source playing that file.
- You want a continuous stream of several recordings: Put the files in an OBS VLC Video playlist and enable Loop Playlist.
- You mean the saved replay of a past live broadcast: That archive is separate from the footage being sent live. Changing an OBS playlist affects the feed, not an archive already saved by YouTube.
OBS’s VLC Video source supports playlists, unlike a single Media Source. VLC must be installed for the source to appear; if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. OBS Project’s Media Sources documentation describes these controls.
Stop one match file from looping
- In OBS, select the scene containing the recording.
- In the Sources list, select the relevant Media Source. If you have multiple sources, check each one that may be playing the match.
- Open the source’s properties and clear Loop, then confirm the change.
- Check the scene during a short test: the file should play once and stop when it reaches the end.
OBS documents Loop as the option that makes a media file play again after completion; its documented default is Off. If the recording still restarts, verify that you edited the source actually used in the active scene and that a separate source or scene transition is not starting it again.
Rotate several match recordings in OBS
- Install VLC if needed, matching its 64-bit or 32-bit version to OBS.
- In the scene you intend to stream, add a VLC Video source.
- Open its properties and add the distinct match files to the playlist. Use descriptive filenames so you can recognize the entries and spot duplicates.
- Enable Loop Playlist if you want the broadcast to continue from the last file back to the first.
- Choose whether to enable Shuffle Playlist, based on the rotation you want.
- Before going live, run a short check: confirm the source is visible in the active scene, each file plays, the intended order or shuffle is selected, and the playlist wraps as expected.
OBS documents Loop Playlist as On by default and Shuffle Playlist as Off by default. Check both settings rather than relying on defaults, particularly if the source or scene has been reused.

Use a fixed order for predictable variety
Leave Shuffle Playlist off and arrange the files in the order you want. To alternate between two sets, interleave them in one playlist—for example, A1, B1, A2, B2. This is a practical arrangement based on OBS’s ordered playlist behavior; the cited OBS documentation does not describe automatically alternating between two separately named playlists.
Use shuffle for a curated rotation
Turn Shuffle Playlist on when variation matters more than chronology. Shuffle operates on playlist files; it does not identify the gameplay inside them. If the same match appears in multiple files, remove the duplicates or place them deliberately farther apart in a fixed-order list. OBS provides no content-aware control here, so neither shuffle nor a playlist guarantees a minimum interval between repeats.

Set the broadcast in YouTube Studio
OBS or another encoder sends the gameplay and media feed. YouTube Studio is where you create or select the live broadcast and manage its metadata, stream key, and broadcast options. YouTube’s live stream settings guide covers those controls; its getting-started guide explains streaming methods, including using an encoder for gameplay.
Do not confuse YouTube’s DVR setting with OBS playback. DVR lets viewers pause and rewind a live event; it does not change which match file the encoder plays or how a playlist is ordered.

Keep the YouTube archive separate from the live rotation
YouTube’s current archive guidance says live streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, recommends keeping a local backup, and warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. The 12-hour guidance is about archive capture, not how often a match repeats in the live feed. See YouTube’s archive live streams guidance.
If keeping the replay matters, make a local recording or backup rather than relying only on the YouTube archive. When appropriate, manage the saved replay in YouTube Studio’s Content area under Live; archive visibility or deletion is separate from the OBS playlist.

Troubleshoot repeated matches
- The same file starts again as soon as it ends: Check the Media Source’s Loop option. If using VLC Video, check whether the playlist contains that file more than once.
- The playlist stops after one pass: Check that Loop Playlist is enabled on the VLC Video source.
- Files play in an unexpected order: Turn off Shuffle Playlist for a fixed rotation, then inspect the playlist order.
- A match seems to repeat even with shuffle on: Look for duplicate files or separate recordings of the same match. Shuffle randomizes files, not match identities.
- VLC Video is missing from OBS’s source options: Install VLC and match its architecture to OBS; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- The YouTube replay is missing: Check the stream’s duration against YouTube’s archive guidance and use a local backup for important broadcasts. Archive capture and encoder playback are different issues.
